CHALLENGING AI + REALISTIC BATTLES: DARTHMOD TOTAL WAR REVIEW

Shogun 2 Total War is without a doubt one of the best Total War titles in the series. It’s got visuals that still hold up today, it’s got some of the best battles of any of the older games & it’s got one of the best Saga spin offs ever made: Fall of the Samurai.
Today I’m going to cover one of the most popular mods currently available for the game. A mod that aims to make the campaign & battle experience more realistic, that enhances AI to be more challenging and a mod that honestly makes Fall of the Samurai the best it can be.
So in this video I’ll be showcasing the brilliant Darthmod for Shogun 2, giving you all the good reasons why you should check it out & all the not so great things to be wary of. This game has aged incredibly well. Amazing work by CA back then and Darthmod needs almost no introduction. Just stellar stuff all around. I especially enjoyed the Empire Darthmod as well, since it must have been a crazy challenge to enhance the much less polished and buggy base game there.

Hands down the absolute best Shogun 2 mod(s) I have played is the Master of Strategy Mod.. both the Sengoku and Fall of Samurai had spectacular modded campaigns. Would definitely recommend checking those out and doing a review. Changes include new units, recruitment mechanics, completely new buildings and immersive building effects, tougher AI, and they broke the map of Japan down into about twice as many regions as there are in vanilla. Probably in my top 3 total war mods across any total war game

@@TheTerminatorGaming Only thing I'll add if you plan to check it out is there really aren't any guides available for this mod that I have been able to find and because the mechanics are so different than vanilla (mostly surrounding infrastructure) you can really shoot yourself in the foot early campaign if you aren't paying attention to how your buildings are impacting your populace. There are also some resources that are a bit confusing to access, but the majority of the time you will most likely be able to access that resource through building chains.

I must really recommend playing darthmod with the fots unit pack for darthmod. The unit art is really good, and it adds lots of distinctive and original units.

I don't know if you have already (haven't found a video) but it would be awesome if you could make a video for the Ultimate Immersive mod for the Shogun 2 base game. I have played many hours in it and it really nails its goal in my opinion. The whole mod trys to make the sengoku jidai as real as possible in game. Added tons of new provinces and castles that are historical for the time and there is a large focus on how army's where structured with a large amount of ashigaru making up the main body of the force supported by samurai. Love your work and cant wait to see more!

I guess it's fairly doable to mod the campaign map in shogun 2 (like the middle earth map for the last alliance). I'd love to remake empire in shogun 2.

For the main game i prefer UIM + a couple of smaller mods, that “copy” darth mod’s changes. For fall of the samurai, darth wins big time. Does darth mod cover rise of the samurai as well?

I didnt play shougun 2(vannila or modded),but i must say that napoleon darthmod or empire darthmod is truly fascinating.especially ai,who trying crash you all the time,or uniforms of soldiers,campaign etc...

idk about yall but shogun 2 just the movement of the troops felt so crisp and smooth they didnt slow motion run like in rome 2 or stutter. ran smoothly. what the heck happened to that lol

TheTerminator, I was watching your old videos of some factions in Rome total war 2 Divide et impera 1.28 , and I noticed you have more factions than I have unlocked. I wanted to play pergamon but its not available for me. I checked your modlist and none of them indicated a faction unlock mod. I got my DEI from steam, the 3 parts of it and then the new beta.

Couple this with the settlement battle maps pack, and you have on your hands a hell of a campaign. Chosu are THE Imperial faction to play as in FotS. My pick is usually Date or Oda for Standard.

The issue is that the ai has no clue how to use the settlements, it can lead to annoyingly long battles where you march across the map to pick off stragglers, or an easy battle where the entire enemy army is in one spot that is easily shelled.

When I first played this mod the first battle in the campaign had ai unit size doubled like my units had 160 soldiers and ai had 320 soldiers in one unit and then I rage quit

Immersive? You're kidding me? Although I love Shogun 2 TW, undoubtedly one of the greatest total war games, it was immersion breaking for me. Great games, love most of them but you can't convince me their combat animations are immersive. 😂😘
