Great job with this video. You kept it simple. After 3 major hurricanes, I’m done with permanent installation. Simple, quickly deployable, and highly portable.

I really enjoy it and the quick deployment. I used to trees and a wire, and that took much longer. I can pop it outside in the HOA around dusk and play radio all night. The puck hub is a nice edition.

Those tripods are rock solid. I use about the same set up. 17ft whip on the beach with that tripod in 25 mph plus winds and it never tipped over and the tripod is pretty lightweight also. Great content! 73's

Thank you and great video. I have the Chameleon SS17 whip and like it. I’ll probably have to get this one sometime also. I keep mine in some 3/4 inch white pvc pipe to protect it. The pipe is cut just slightly longer than the whip to give it just a little extra room but not much to move around. And of course caps on each end. I’m guessing the SS25 would take 1 inch pipe but not sure. I got the idea from another KZbin video. I think it was K8MRD Ham Radio Tube but can’t remember for sure.

Were you using the radios tuner during the sweeps? It’s kind of hard to tell
@W6IWN_Radio20 күн бұрын
@davidp73 No, the CHA micro hybrid 5:1 UnUn was doing all the work. My tuner was off. I use one on my rain gutter, and it gets 2:1 or lower across the bands. That doesn't mean it's a great antenna by any means. It's still a compromised antenna with a better match. A resonant antenna would be ideal 👌 The SS25 whip can be tuned without an UnUn for a 1/4 wave vertical from 6m-30m by adjusting the length.

Thanks for the video. It wasn’t clear to me, but were you using the tuner on each band or were you adjusting the whip length to change bands?
@W6IWN_Radio5 ай бұрын
For the sweeps I was using, it fully extended with the Hybrid Micro and a counterpoise cut for each band. I tossed the longer wires in the lake. During operation, I did shorten 2 lengths on 17m to make my amp happy. Thanks for watching. 73

There is no antenna on this planet that exhibits the SWR sweeps you show. Go back and check your set-up.

This was my experience recorded on video. I was using many different counterpoise wires cut for each band (some tossed in the lake) with a 5:1 UnUn. I was quite surprised myself! The tripod is also a counterpoise... Each environment and setup are going to be different.
@nehem11e2 ай бұрын
@@amham48 I agree that there isn’t an antenna out there that will do that without a tuner, but he is using the antenna and a radio with a built in tuner. So for each frequency range shown in the video he tuned it. The tuning wasn’t shown in the video.

@W6IWN_Radio i believe it. The 5:1 transformer is used in the cha-250b. A 5:1 with a 7.6m element i.e. roughly 25 feet and boom you are working basically working a modified rybokov with better swr. The trade off is is lossy. Buuuutttt anything in the air is better than nothingness. You rock!
