This is one way to chamfer valve openings, to improve flow characteristics on stock Oldsmobile heads, using Neway cutters.

Got a rod knock in my 72 350. Was completely rebuilt 10 years ago but sat for 9 years after that. After starting it last summer I went about 30 miles and developed a loud knock. Wish I had the confidence to tear it apart as you did and repair it. Very inspirational. Loved the OILING detail, never did understand all that! Thanks for posting all the videos.

A 72 350 is a great engine, certainly worth fixing. I can relate to how terrible it feels when you hear an engine start knocking like that!

small valve heads.might as well get them cut for larger valves.

Nice videos! I like those cutters, do 2 sizes basically adjust to cover most size seats/throats? I might need 2.25" down to maybe 1.55" largest to smallest. On my Olds heads I use 2.07/1.72" I believe, but some Buicks are 2.125/1.75" and Chryslers 2.19/1.88" etc. Thanks!!

I followed the Neway site recommendations for my cutter head sizes. I currently have two smaller heads and two larger heads to cover valve sizes from 1.625 to 2.1. So far I haven't had any issues. Neway has been great to work with, I would talk to them if you have sizing questions. I was surprised at how far out I could adjust the cutting blades allowing the small heads to easily cut 1.62 exhaust and 2.0 intake seats. I would not be suprised if my larger cutting heads will cut a 2.125 seat. I will try to remember to check the sizes and get back to you. Thanks for leaving a comment!

@@junkdump2720 Those are 403 valve sizes, right?

@@rodneybyrd9516 403s typically have 2" intake and 1.5" exhaust, the 2" intake with 1.625" exhaust was found on 350's, 425's, 400's and 455's. I like to run 2" Int and 1.625" exh on 350 builds and I find 2.07 intake and 1.687 exhaust work well on BB heads (of course open the valve openings up to match larger diameter valves). I measured my Neway cutter heads, the small cutter is 1.730" in diameter, the larger one is 1.985" in diameter.

JunkDump, first I wanna say I love your content especially using the oldsmobile engines and parts. People are always talking down on some of the oldsmobile engines and offer false facts about them. Awhile back you shot a video of u performing head porting and cutting for bigger valves on a oldsmobile 307 which was awesome and a great teaching video by the way. Which leads me to my next question...I have a '83 olds hurst cutlass that I'm slowly restoring and am keeping the original 307 engine. I wanted to know if u would be willing to perform the same work on my heads if I were to ship them to you? I would of course pay you for doing this and for shipping to u and back to me. I'm asking you personally b/c I feel like I can trust u and u definitely know what you're doing and I can't find anyone here in Florida to do this work to my 307 heads. I really want to get this done badly and want you to do it. If not, could u pls point me in the right direction of a person or shop that can perform this for me. It's something me and my 12yr old daughter are doing and I've been down in-the-dumps b/c I can't find anyone to help us out. I'd really appreciate your help in anyway possible. If u want...u can email me at doziesirmones@yahoo.com and again please....if you can help us in any way possible...do so. I'll even buy a set of the heads from u if u already have a set. Just let me know what your service charge is or what the cost is for a set. Keep up the very knowledgeable content in your videos and continue working with the oldsmobile engines and parts. You have a subscriber and supporter for life and that's no lie.

I am extremely flattered, thank you so much. I would love to help you out as much as I can. Currently I am up to my eyeballs in work right now, I have four 350 heads and a 455 set of heads to completely work over. Unfortunately I am a one person operation so this will take some time. I really want to help you out, I love working over heads that no one else bothers with, like 307 heads! I find the 307 responds extremely well to head work and think you will be satisfied with the added performance. I will give my email address here and we can figure out what works. Please email me some pictures of the project, I would love to see it. Junkdump455@gmail.com Thank you for for the comment! I started sharing this Olds content for people exactly like you, thank you for the support!

@@junkdump2720 thanks alot. To hear you say that you're willing to help is phenomenal and I remembered u explaining in a video, how you're a one person shop and the explanation of the little shaking in your hands. Yes, I figured you may be busy but, I'm a patient man when it comes to projects like these and would never rush you. After all, you nor I would want a "rush job" on anything we owned!! I now have your email and will be contacting and sending pictures soon. I'm now doing some cleaning around the yard and project space as to have more room to work. As soon as I'm done with this I'll start sending pics. Right now I just have alot of collected parts for the interior that I'm organizing for installation and still I'm looking for original bucket seats and tracks. Once I get some, I'll have everything for the interior. Pictures will be coming soon and thanks alot, you don't know how much this means to me.
