A lot of chamorro also have Filipino influence because of Filipino diaspora or migration to the island. Pancit and lumpia is Filipino food and the coconut string beans with spam is a similar coconut vegetable stew with shrimp paste called ginataang sitaw. It's intersection how they are influence and adapted by other people. Filipino and Chamoros are similar.

Neil Modino Definitely- lots of sharing between cultures. The difference between kaddon uhang and ginataang sitaw is that we don’t use lemon in ginataan.

The filipino influence dates back hundreds if years ago when guam is part of Spanish East Indies administered in Manila. Spanish administrators did not distinguish the ethnicity of the natives, all non-peninsulares are simply "indios". During manila-acapulco galleon trade, guam was a replinishment station along the route.
@khust29932 жыл бұрын
@@juvyalvarez3751 the Spaniards definitely distinguished between the ethnic groups though, from the earliest ones like Miguel de Loarca, Antonio de Morga, Francisco Colin, etc. definitely compared the major ethnic groups (i.e. Tagalogs, Bisaya, Cagayanes (Ibanags), Ilocanos, etc.) with each other and highlighted their similarities and differences in their accounts. Even Chamorros were covered in Boxer Codex.
