@budthecyborg45756 жыл бұрын
Lauri, please, just remember that a Sword is the equivalent of an Assault Rifle from 500 years ago. Misusing one can easily lead to serious injury or death. You should always account for the possibility of losing your grip or the blade coming loose from the handle. People have died that way in the past. Never swing a sword with human beings anywhere within 50 meters of the arc of your swing.

Very short explanation why it worked with the first two bottles and not with latters. It is because of the pressure in the bottle. Jaume Serra is cava which is produced in the traditional method and it has pressure almost of a champagne (some high quality cavas might have the same pressure) . Aviva is the cheapest way of producing and pressure similar to other carbonated drinks like sparkling waters or other fizzy drinks. If you had gone with high quality stuff, you would had had even more pressure in the bottle and easier opening. (overly simplified the more there is pressure in the bottle the smaller and more pleasent the sparkliness). Unfortunately (for our wallets) the best quality is achieved with the most expensive way of production. But worth it (subjective opinion). It is true that Cava is produced with method tradicional which is "the right one" for the trick. But most of the high quality sparkling ones hold even more pressure than cheap ones.
@macsikkila6 жыл бұрын
BTW I think you should try this again sometime comparing the different types of sparkling wines. And you should get some real Champagne to see does it make difference. And some Champagne producer should sponsor that video. In my opinion... 😁👍🏻
@Babarudra6 жыл бұрын
No, this can be done on non-fizzy drinks like regular wine, as well.
@Ghlargh6 жыл бұрын
@@Babarudra You can break the neck just as easily on regular wine, but i wouldn't drink that stuff afterwards. The pressurized bottle of sparkling wine almost guarantees all the broken glass is blown out and away from the bottle.
@macsikkila6 жыл бұрын
@@Babarudra Yes and no. You can ofcourse break a glass bottle (or any object made out of glass) by force. But that is just a different topic. When you do this traditional opening of a champagne bottle it is called sabrage. And you should use the non sharp edge of a special sabre á champagne as a tool. The physics behind this trick have a lot to do with the huge pressure inside the champagne bottle (more than 600 kilopascals) that is produced during the secondary fermentation in the bottle. When the blade makes a crack when hitting the lip near the seam, the pressure will make it to break really clean and there is not much of a risk of small pieces of glass entering your drink. (Although you should always make sure of it and be careful). On the other hand this way of opening a bottle of any sparkling wine is not good for the drink as the quite violent method makes the carbon dioxide to escape the drink. And if you lose the carbon dioxide quickly there is something missing from the expierience. It is better to tilt the bottle to 45 degree angle, hold it from the bottom and with the other hand hold and rotate the cork while letting the pressure from the bottle to push the cork out. This way you minimize the shaking of the bottle at the moment when cork comes out if you use your thumb to slow the cork down. There shouldn't be that pop sound at all. Just gentle "whisper" when the cork comes of. This is how you preserve the high quality sparkling bubbles and get most out of the delicious experience of your valuable drink. Although I'm not a sparkling wine expert. More in to whiskys, red wines and craft beers so why I'm even here.

The first time I opened a bottle with a sword was with a beer bottle. It was before KZbin, so I only have a couple still shots someone took of me doing it. I had intended to pop the top off, but the whole end of the bottle off like you did with the wine. It wasn't until a few years later that I found out that it was a thing. We were all quite amazed that it worked, and someone promptly took away the machete I did it with. (party pooper!) The blade needs to be at the proper angle when it hits the neck seam, closer to 30 - 45 degrees or so.

Jesus! Lauri almost got Anni with the sword! But the face she made was funny! LMAO Maybe you have to shake the wine and beer up a little to get the pressure higher in the bottle.?
@AaronSherman6 жыл бұрын
A few things: 1) this is called "sabrage". 2) It is usually done with a shorter sword than you are using, which makes it a bit easier. You can even do it with a kitchen knife. 3) Do not use the sharp side of the blade, it gives you less contact area and tends to just ride up and off of the neck, diffusing the power of the stroke 4) It works much better when the bottle is chilled ahead of time and 5) hold the bottle lower and point it across your field of view so that it's easier to get leverage on it. You want the stroke to almost scissor against the bottle.

A few tips from someone woh knew something about wine and sekt (german sparkling wine). First: don't do it with the edge of your sword (don't do it with a sword do it with a saber it's the traditional way) Second don't remove the Agraffe (the metal thing over the cork) just move it one to the slot betwean the cork and the big boulge between the neck and the neck of the bottle. It presents the cork from acetently flying out. Thired you can hit the cronecoark frome the bere bottlr away with youre sword I never heraed abut doing it with a glas bit i propose if you do it try using a expensive one. But lastly a complyment you did it realy well and it looks realy good.

I would say that it's easier to pop the bottles is you keep the angle on the sword the same in the whole motion, that will say, don't swing the sword from left to right (or vice versa), move your arm.

It's easier to do if 1) you chill the neck of the bottle in an ice bucket, 2) run the sabre along the seam in the glass, and 3) swing hard and don't stop when you hit the neck - follow-through Search "alton brown champagne sabre" and you'll find a great instructional video

You are only supposed to open magnum bottles of champagne with a sword, for regular bottles try using a good heavy metal spatula. Also you should remove only the cork without breaking the glass, to achieve this you must hold the bottle by the lower third of the thick ring at the neck, then press the base of the bottle against your arm between shoulder and elbow, this holds the glass together if you mess up the next stage. Put the bottle of wine in your less dominant hand and point it comfortably straight away from you, with your sword in dominant hand hold shoulder to elbow straight out infront of you, pull the sword back towards you as far as you can(elbow joint must be less than 90 deg) with all power coming from your elbow joint push the sword away from you completely parrallel to the bottle, you must swiftly twist your wrist when you feel the blade pass the thick glass rim, this allows the edge to catch the cork well. The reason it is traditionally done with magnums is because there is enough space to grip the neck with three fingers and thumb, with regulars you must use two fingers and thumb or risk not having the third next time, also magnums will lie across your forearm but you must bridge regulars between your two finger grip and your upper arm.

You can use a sword, dagger, or knife as a beer bottle opener anyway. Wedge the blade under the cap (where it meets the glass), hit it, and the cap comes off the same as it would with a real bottle opener, and it doesn't break the glass if you do it right.
