I got one and yes, it's a light duty but it has split everything I have put to it, green birch and oak. I felt I just couldn't justify a $1800 big splitter. On the plus side if you are splitting by yourself this splitter is plenty fast , especially if you do small batches like me. It is very easy to move around, it will fit in my tractor bucket, and has a small footprint for storage.It does start a little hard. It runs forever on a tank of gas. It is perfect for my purposes. I guess durability is the real issue and that remains to be seen. I have friends who have the big splitters and the're still going strong after many ,many years and this splitter is definitely not over built like the big ones. I do 3 or 4 cords a year at most and so far it's perfect for me.

What kind of wood are you splitting? Hardwood? Softwood? Species? Thanks.
@nukey555
@nukey555 2 ай бұрын
Thanks brother, I spotted one used and decided to buy it! I don't think I'll ever really need a 22 ton or more... will be splitting about 10 cord a year, mostly Aspen too which is relatively soft so it's hopefully gonna get through those logs easily.
@jesus.maryandjoseph8880
@jesus.maryandjoseph8880 Жыл бұрын
How many litres of gas (just approximate) would you burn to split a full one cord of wood to standard size for a larger wood stove that handles 16-20" logs? Just asking for your best guess to guage how much fuel it may burn per cord.

Hook up a return spring to return the ram whenever your hand is removed from the lever. It's also safer that way and will speed things up a little.

Hi, I will have to look into it. I currently took another viewer's suggestion and am making a piece of pipe to go over the lever. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. It is greatly appreciated. Dan

I have this splitter i split a few cords a year, only oak. It will handle big logs. The only problems are, its low to ground and cant be pulled behind a tractor.

Did it come with the hitch adapter to be able to transport it with your trailer receiver?
@semperparatusoffgrid
@semperparatusoffgrid 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Boxerdog,, Nope, no trailer hitch comes with it, The wheels are pretty small so I suspect it would not survive being towed.

There is another version with a hitch, but still not for highway speeds lol @@semperparatusoffgrid I think just sold in Canada. Model 201124 Looks like a slightly different engine, and does not have the log cradles.

La maquina puede servir bien para trabajo ligero pero habria que colocarla unos 50 cm mas alta y el operario deberia utilizar proteccion auditiva .

Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to watch the video. I would say that it is a light duty log splitter at best. I am working on another log splitter but want to really wring it out before putting out a video. Stay tuned. Dan

If the log is too long, you can split it standing on both ends
@semperparatusoffgrid
@semperparatusoffgrid Жыл бұрын
Hi, These log splitters are really designed to split the wood along the grain. I am not sure a small 9 ton splitter would have enough power to split the wood in a cross-grain direction. Thanks. Dan
@markluxton3402
@markluxton3402 Жыл бұрын
This would not be cross grain splitting. Cross grain would be laying on its' side but positioned sideways; something you do not want to attempt. @@semperparatusoffgrid

I have the same one and it's total crap! It worked well the first week and that's about it. I took it to the repair shop (as per Champion's CSR advice) but even after that it's still crap. I regret buying this splitter.

Would this split almond wood well?
@semperparatusoffgrid
@semperparatusoffgrid 7 ай бұрын
Hi Zach, Not sure how this splitter would do with almond, as it is a hard wood. Most of the wood in western Washington are soft woods. I would probably recommend something more powerful. Thanks for watching! Dan
