In the very early 1900s, the McSpin family ran a ranch just outside a town in the Bee Bay area. The family was small; just a mother and father, and their daughter Sally. Growing up, Sally loved the ranch and loved the animals, but she also loved to dance. Unfortunately, the demanding chores of the ranch kept her from chasing this dream. But one day, while making a delivery to town, she met a man - a strange man who only went by Sack Ted. As if he could read her thoughts, he said he could help her become a dancer, but it would come at a hefty price. Still only a young girl and very gullible, Sally agreed. That was the last thing she remembered before waking up. Everything was... different. Instead of two-story wooden and brick buildings, there were metal towers that she couldn't hope to see the top of. Horses and carriages were gone, replaced by metal capsules that zoomed by on a gravel path. And she was alone. Her family, her ranch... all of it was gone. Sack Ted had tricked her, and sent her to the year 2015. Lost and afraid, Sally stumbled around the city... until she met Barry. Barry was just a simple office worker, but he had accidentally intercepted a government email with crucial information. They were after him, and he knew it. They would catch him. But maybe, just maybe, he could get this information into the hands of someone who could make use of it. But his time was running short. Upon meeting Sally, he barely introduced himself before thrusting a manila envelope at her, full of printed-out information. He told her to keep it safe, no matter what, and do what she could with it to help others. Just as he finished his request, a loud BANG rang out. Sally looked around in shock, but when she turned back to Barry, he slumped over on the ground, a bleeding hole in the back of his head. A sniper had finally taken him out. Panicked, Sally turned and ran - she didn't care where she ran, she just needed to run. She needed someplace safe. Thankfully, the sniper either didn't notice her or didn't suspect her. By the time the government agents got to Barry's body and discovered the information was gone, Sally was nowhere to be found. No record of her existed, and no witnesses found her memorable enough to mention her when interrogated. Sally eventually took shelter in a dance studio. When she ran in, the instructor and students looked at her in surprise. "Um... I don't suppose you're..." The instructor took a look at her list of students. One of them had failed to show up. "...Gene?" Sally didn't know what else to do. She nodded. "Oh... very well then. Please take your place." The instructor gestured to an empty mat. Unsure what else to do, Sally did as told. She would only be able to hide at the studio for a few months, but she picked up some moves rather easily. When the agents closed in, she ran. And she continued to run, getting various jobs in the entertainment industry through dancing. All under her new pseudonym, Gene. Perhaps one day, this running from the government would end. But as long as she held this envelope, she was hunted. She was in danger. She was Gene.

Gene is the tutorial character from Survive the Internet when showing you the example prompts, he's also the character the UI instant messages randomly in the same game. He returns in Mad Verse City as an AI player if the room has an odd number of players, his rhymes usually do not rhyme and he's represented as his Survive the Internet gray profile avatar with glasses. Gene returns again in Patently Stupid if you have less than 4 players, often giving really dumb ideas that the commentators mock him for. Gene also is one of the puppet avatars in Joke Boat, again represented by a gray avatar with glasses. If it did not show Mal or Hayley's drawings, the Gene name would have had the same gray avatar picture with it, and you would automatically lose the round.
