Haha no it’s called a slap hit and it’s very common in softball. A slap hit is where a fast left handed player moves through the batters box while batting and “slaps” the ball into play. Essentially the goal of a slap hit is to weakly hit the ball into play and to beat out the throw. Usually slap hitters (that’s what you call a batter who slap hits) are very fast and are able to beat out the throw to 1st. In this instance the hitter got a strong slap hit and hit it out of the infield which would be called a power slap. Most slap hits end up in the infield though. It sounds weird but when done properly by some truly fast runners you can get some amazing players with insanely high batting averages ranging from the 400s-600s. Due to their speed and batting average slap hitters make perfect 1st, 2nd, or 9th hole hitters.
