I’ve watched everything there is on this case. I have a theory that there was always something different about Chandler and his parents “helped” him a lot. He was an Eagle Scout . His parents likely made that happen by pushing him, making sure he was where he needed to be when he needed to be there, setting up opportunities for him , over helping with the projects to make sure they got done . I think this went on his entire life. This is just my gut feeling but I could be wrong. I think they were so relieved he was in college and employed that they ignored the red flags. They weren’t stupid people. Bart was in a senior position at BDO, a huge national/international accounting firm. Because the trial happened so fast , just 6 or 7 months after the murders, we never got to learn more about Chandler’s history . What was he like growing up , as a teen? How did he do in high school? Why did his parents fall for all of his lies? It went on for so long!! There’s an interesting backstory here , that we may never get to know about. What I’m sure of is, he didn’t become a cold hearted killer who was able to cut his parents up and burn their heads in the fireplace, in one day.

I've been horrified yet fascinated by this case for some time, particularly since it's the more recent in a string of familicides committed by young men who were pushed to quit mooching off their parents. I followed this case from the start and even then Chandler was suspicious AF. I feel so bad for Mitchell, he lost his parents and brother at the same time. There's nothing wrong with his parents-they were loving and supportive. He made so much effort in covering up his lies when he could have just gone to school and get a job like his brother, Mitchell. He was never remorseful and he just wanted to laze around doing nothing. It's a parent's job to monitor their kids while they're under their roof, Chandler is just a lazy POS who didn't want to leave home but also won't follow their rules. My parents were very strict with me and my siblings growing up as they wanted us to take our studies seriously, finish our degree, get a job and leave home which we all did. If being strict and fussy with their kids is a justification for murder then millions would be gone. Chandler is an entitled psychopath who didn't want to work but expected his parents to put up with him and his lies. He deserves to rot in prison.

Totally agree. Chandler is a psychopath. He hits so many of the behaviours and traits: Detached, cold and callous demeanor (flat affect), pathological lying, exaggerations and deceitfulness, lack of empathy, remorselessness, impulsivity, parasitic, superficial and shallow, unaffected and unafraid of consequences, blame shifting/lack of accountability, disregard for rules, laws and social norms, lack of conscience, abnormal ways of thinking, easily bored/low attention span and loss of interest, sense of grandiosity and entitlement, additionally many psychopaths have a capacity for cruelty and violence. What a gem. Most research now supports that Psychopaths are BORN, not made. His parents had no idea there was a ticking time bomb in their home. RIP Bart and Krista Halderson. Prayers to Mitchell and so sorry for your incredible loss.

Wisconsin’s own Grant Amato. Jeebus. Wow. Well done, Monsters. This is the best summarization of what this idiot did to his family. All because he was too lazy to make something of himself. That phone call between the college registrars office and Bart was heartbreaking. You can tell Bart is abrasive at first because he truly cannot believe it’s his son who lied. You can hear in his voice how he’s grasping for anything to prove it’s the college… then he lets go of all pretense and you can hear how much less combative he sounds. The parallels between the Halderson’s and the Amato’s is striking. Both families truly cared about their kids. Both had one kid who excelled and another who dragged his feet. The only difference was that Chaz had Cat - a real girlfriend who was also strung along.

Well said! I was a screw up too. My parents held me accountable and now I'm a responsible adult with my own family. My sister in law is a screw up who's always been coddled. Her mother always lets her move back in with her rent free. She hoards up the house, refuses to work, gets drunk all day, refuses to interact with (or even feed) her kids, and is very rude. She calls the police on everyone, including her family when she gets out-of-control angry. No one held her accountable- not even the police. They don't seem to care that she keeps wasting their time. Luckily she ran off with some loser and no one has seen her in months. She's 35 by the way. I hope her kids are okay and not around random men at drunken parties, but there's nothing I can do about it. TL;DR: fellow parents, do not coddle your screw up your kid. At 17:21, Chandler tries to listen in to Cat's interview since she's next door. She talks about the "grounding", which was nothing but Bart and Krista wanting Chandler to stay at home and rest, what with doctors telling him that he "might be needing a colostomy bag soon", among other things 🙄 Chandler portrays his father as a choleric person which is unbelievable, imo, since Bart didn't react aggressively whenever Chandler had a new excuse for his missing salary.

Heard this story countless times and every time I rewatch it I can’t even begin to fathom what this whole situation did to Mitchell mentally. No one on earth deserves this to happen to any of their loved ones let alone by their own brother 😔🙏🏼💙

I thought Joel Guy Jr was the laziest murderer after he killed his parents and then gave up and left half way through his attempt to dismember and dissolve them, but no... Chandler has him beat. I've always found it really disturbing that he texted his mom to bring soda on her way home when he was planning to kill her as soon as she got there. I don't share the belief that it was attempt to buy more time because it would only buy 5 more mins tops. I think he actually wanted soda to drink and that's how little he cared about what he chose to do... almost as if it was mundane to him. killed his dad, chopped him up, texted mom to grab soda, kill mom, drink soda, chop mom up, eat dinner, clean up.... just random stuff. Really needed that soda though.

Just to clarify, bart was dead when that glass was broken, Chandler was not sent to his room, he's just trying to make himself seem weak and fragile so he's not suspected. He talks like this throughout the interview, saying Cat put him to bed, says, "They feed me" he has immersed himself in this lie of being injured and now sees it as a way to get people to do extra stuff for him, which they were already doing. Also he was not grounded, this was another lie, Chandler was lying on his parents to change Cat and her mother's view towards them, so that Dulce( cat's mom) would offer for him to live with them. It worked, the only rule Bart and Krista had was his curfew and rent being paid. At least to my knowledge. Also, if it isn't made clear, they never even intended to go to the cabin. Wednesday, the night before he had a meeting at the school with his dad, Chandler concocted that lie because he had already made up his mind to murder them both the next day. Which is what he did.

Cases like this are especially disgusting to me. Chandlers parents seemed incredibly supportive and understanding, and of course they would have likely been upset to learn he was lying about going to college and working, but I'm pretty positive they would have still supported him. The fact that he ended up murdering his parents, the people who raised him, because he got so caught up in his lie, is so vile and sickening. I cannot imagine anyone reaching that point in a lie and thinking murder is the only option left.

They didn't have any shrimp because Chandler ate them himself. He was very shellfish in that way.
