Timestamps. Abhijit Chavda Podcast #17 ( Chandrachur Ghose: Bose - Untold Story of an Inconvenient Nationalist) 00:00:01 Intro music. 00:00:25 Opening Note. 00:01:08 What was the need to write a new book? What motivated you to do so? 00:13:52 Why was Subash Chandra Bose an inconvenient nationalist? Who was he inconvenient to, and who is he still inconvenient to? 00:31:28 Jawaharlal Nehru had a constituency, Sardar Patel had a constituency, Monhandas Gandhi had one, but Subash Bose did not have any. It looks like for Bose, the whole of India was his constituency. What's your views on this? 00:41:59 When you wear a military uniform and when you organize the youth in a military style there is a direct challenge to the ruling order which is the British. They must have seen him as the biggest threat. Now, Subash Chandra Bose was unable to organize all of the disparate forces together because he was in jail,etc., but even the Congress party's leaders were in jail very often. So how was the Congress party, so well oiled, so well unified,what was the unifying factor there which Subash Chandra Bose was not able to have? 00:47:26 Gandhi was afforded the time by the British to build his entire team. It appears the British were sympathetic towards Gandhi and other moderates. Since, Bose wanted to overthrow the British(swaraj), maybe that's why he was not allowed the kind of traction, like Gandhi was? 00:54:42 What vision did Bose had for India. How was it different form the vision that Gandhi had for India? 01:07:45 If Subash Bose was a staunch Hindu, why were there differences between him and the Hindu Mahasabha, Veer Savarkar, etc. . What was the cause for that? 01:14:18 Why did Bose ally with Hitler? Did Bose know what was happening with the Jews in Germany? 01:32:31 What was the plan that Bose articulated to the German, Japanese and other leaders and what value did they see in Bose? 01:40:14 As far as I know Bose did not receive a formal military training. How did he become a reasonably successful commander of the Azad Hind Fauj? 01:43:02 If Bose had won the war against the British, and had liberated India, what was his plan for India? Bose believed in democracy, but people allege that he was someone with dictatorial tendencies. What was his vision for India, had he succeeded? 01:49:10 What is the true legacy of Subash Chandra Bose? 01:53:44 Closing note. Jai Hind 🇮🇳 🙏😇

Dada, you have a significant voice in the Bengali community. As I can see, Hindutva as a project is nearing its saturation & like every good thing, it'll also start to deteriorate after a time because of complacent leadership that we'll probably have after Modi & Yogi. A competitive ideology such as this only stays in power when it's always challenged by a competent complimentary ideology. You'll see that Prashant Kishore has already started his decade long journey to consolidate the Gandhian splinters under one umbrella, including all the secularists, ambedkarites, socialists & communists. It's a concerning matter as all these have their support bases against BJP & Hindutva as a whole & before long this "Gandhian Socialist mahagathbandhan" will join hands under the table with the then complacent BJP to form a 2 party rule here in Bharat. & Both being socialist at their core, can have catastrophic consequences for us in the long run. That's why I suggest you & many like you to already start consolidating all the nationalists under the umbrella of Netaji's thought process with an economic right wing flavour through content & narratives for probably a 2 decade long project. We cannot let the socialists again holding us back by having monopoly of 2 parties. It's right time to consolidate & there can't be a better banner than Netaji's nationalistic fervour. Only one thing is a hurdle in this project & that is the still classified files of Netaji. I may just have a plan to compel the govt. to take a step in this direction through some useful sensationalization (it may sound hilarious), but I believe in my conviction, & you'll know if I succeed. I hope you'll find this comment useful in the long run Jai Hind, Jai Bharat 🙏🏻

The journey of Netaji very well explained, thank you Mr. Ghose. He was clearly an exceptional leader of the time and was so visibly much more dangerous for the British government, no wonder, it was logical for him to continue to remain anonymous

There are hundreds of letters of Netaji in Bengali. Read Conundrum by Chandrachur Ghose and Anuj Dhar and the latest Biography. Also do read Netaji's own letter to Anath Bandhu Datta from Mandalay Jail and another letter to Sarat Chandra Chatterjee where he refers to Mother Bengal and longs to return to "Sonar Bangla". Chandrachur Da provides a concise portrayal of Subhas Bose as both a man and a leader. His research indicates that Bose was a forward-thinking leader who held steadfast to his objectives and principles, making him stand out. Bose's visionary outlook, intellectual depth, unwavering commitment to India's freedom, eloquence, and effective leadership are qualities worthy of admiration. While replicating Bose may be unattainable, learning from his example is essential, given his global perspective.

Good discussion, and a notable effort by Chandrachur Ghosh to bring out the truth about Netaji in his own way, esp when the entire class of professional historians are sleeping. Though it needs a greater intellect than Chandrachur to bring forth in more depth the true contribution of what Netaji did for this great nation. But these efforts are necessary because there has been in recent times a concerted move by vested interests to malign and misrepresent the contributions of Netaji and the Azad Hind Fauj. Earlier these attacks came mostly from leftists but now they are coming from groups pretending to be Hindutvavadis but are in reality Gandhians at heart.

One of the best podcasts you have done so far, Abhijit! Chandrachud is an amazingly eloquent researcher. Definitely getting his book! We clearly missed out on a passionate and master planner leader in Subhas Bose! A few questions arise: 1. Did Bose go underground because Japanese announced the end of the war after the two atoms bombs were dropped? 2. Why did he go to Russia, of all places? Was it because Germany and Italy had also lost and Russia was the only friend he had left? 3. Hard to imagine a proud nationalist like Bose doing nothing to further the Indian cause in Russia? What all did he do there? 4. How can you (Abhijit) and us (the listeners) do to further Bose’s causes and make India great again? I hope Chandrachud has some answers in his book. Thanks again for a great podcast!

it still seems unbelievable and implausible that a man who could raise armies on a foreign land would be scared of gandhis to come out in a largely independent and democratic India. There is no good explanation for that
@MJ1OT
@MJ1OT 2 жыл бұрын
Independent and democratic? India was still a dominion of the British and was far more British in the Nehruvian era. Bose’s family was being spied on till 1965 at least. If Bose had returned, he would have been tried as a war criminal in Britain. Shri Nehru promised this to the British in several letters he himself wrote. All well documented. And the fact that a patriot of the highest order was treated this way is India’s biggest tragedy. Only after 70 years do we have a government that is not a puppet of western powers. We should be proud of the current dispensation for this reason alone if not for any other reason!
@architjain30
@architjain30 2 жыл бұрын
@@MJ1OT it is not still a dominion. Yes, we may have just gotten dominion status in 1947, but in the 1960s a resolution was passed and we've been completely independent. Do you know what a dominion means? It means to be in the camp of UK in foreign policy matters unconditionally, like Canada and Australia. Heck, we were largely in the soviet camp throughout the cold war and beyond. Let's not take everything at face value and assess the claims as Mr. Abhijit Chavda suggests - first principles thinking
@architjain30
@architjain30 2 жыл бұрын
@@MJ1OT right but you have to understand that there were other governments after nehru all the way to 1985. From 65 to 85, we had the jan sangh government and others. Our relations with UK were already pretty sour, we were literally sanctioned, US and UK had their navies up in bay of bengal in 1971 war, why would someone like Bose not come out the entire time. He was not someone weak like you and me that he would wait for a golden time. This was a person who was bold enough to raise an army outside the country. To even shake hands with hitler if it meant help. He would not be afraid of Indira gandhi for fucks sake lol. And this logic of being scared of the west would make sense if India had had steadfast relations with uk which it hasnt

He had no option than to keep everyone intact in spite of all nuisance created by Muslims. Atleast he never justified the genocide of hindus by Muslims like gandhi did and he himself was a proud hindu and always carried a gita and rudraksh with him wherever he went ( even during war) and he used to meditate at night in ramakrishna mission wearing bhagwa shawl.
