Chandramukhi was released on 14 April 2005 on the eve of the Tamil New Year. The film became a major box office success, with a theatrical run of 890 days at Shanti Theatre. The film won five Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, four Film Fans' Association Awards and two Filmfare Awards. Jyothika and Vadivelu were each awarded a Kalaimamani Award for their work on the film. A sequel entered production in 2023.

Fun fact: this is originally tamil movie and in the movie chandramukhi(the one dancing) is from telugu speaking area speaks telugu and the song u heard now is in telugu language and when they dubbed the movie to telugu ,chandramukhi is from tamil speaking area and speaks tamil and the song is in tamil for telugu version

But when it was remade into other languages they made it or eventually became a comedy horror movie in that Tamil became a joker play. Rajni sir was brilliant as a psycho king but Jyothika made it worse and director put led bulb on her eyes to show it's horror. Can't blame the director because Tamil audience likes such stupid things. And when these Kannada, Telugu, Tamil people flights over their chandramukhi is the best actually..... original manichitrathazhu is laughing at the corner watching other comedy pieces.
