Dr L Subramaniam's Ragam-Tanam-Pallavi in Raga Chandrapriya at Montreal, Canada accompanied by Ambi Subramaniam (Violin), Mahesh Krishnamurthy (Mridangam).
About the Raga:
Chandrapriya is Dr Subramaniam's own creation. It is based on the scale of raga Hindolam but includes the antara gandhara as well. It has the notes Sa, Ga-2 and Ga-3, Ma-1, Dha-1, and Ni-2.
Navaragamalika (pronounced navarāgamālika) is a composition in Carnatic Music that is composed using a collection of nine ragas. Each verse is set to a different raga. Navaragamalika is the samasa of two words nava and ragamalika. Nava means nine. Ragamalika means a garland of ragas in a composition.
What does RTP mean?
Ragam Tanam Pallavi is a form of singing in Carnatic music which allows the musicians to improvise to a great extent. It is one of the most complete aspects of Indian classical music, demonstrating the entire gamut of talents and the depth of knowledge of the musician. It incorporates raga alapana, tanam, pallavi, neraval, and swara-kalpana.
After a short thani avartanam by Mahesh, Dr Subramaniam and Ambi play ragamalika swarams in various ragas like Nasikabhushani, Shubhapantuvarali, and Jog.
