After 15 yrs, I still have two vintage bottles from the early 90s... one of my all time best superpower fragrances. I have heard it was Falco's favorite.

What a coincidence, I wore Egoiste as my signature scent for several years back when it was released in the ´90's I thought it had became history and aged, but then bought a bottle just some month ago and its just as good as I remember it. Makes me wonder why I even stopped wearing it, maybe I just got bored and needed change. Its really nice to see that some fragrances really are timeless.

I remember seeing the commercial for this fragrance in 1990. But I hadn't smelled it until this year when I purchased it. I will always have this in my collection.

Not only does it still hold up today, beginner collectors treat it as if it is brand new. Essentially, it is to them😂. Saying that to say, this stuff has truly become a timeless masterpiece.

Great review! I love Egoiste. The heart is so good. Lovely blend of rose and cinnamon, adding a touch of warmth and sensuality. The way it melts into the dry down, a lovely blend of sandalwood, vanilla, and some tobacco while still keeping hints of the rose and cinnamon - the base notes add depth and richness. It's a fragrance that envelopes you in a cocoon of refinement, luxury, and elegance. It is warm and inviting, with a hint of mystery. A complex, masterful fragrance. Just lovely.

It is pretty interesting about notes, and for me especially Egoiste. I wore it alot back when i was released but then probably got bored of it. Never even stopped to wonder about the notes that made up this wonderful fragrance. Now, decades later, I found myself a bottle of Egoiste again and this tie looked up the notes. To my suprise I found both Rose, and Vanilla (as well as tobacco and sandalwood.) Both Rose and Vanilla are notes present in many of the fragrances presntly on my shelf, tobacco and sandalwood as well. It is quite interseting how I, even unconsciously have been true to my original preferences in scent, even if the composition has varied to a large degree. In fact, looking it up as i now write, my very first scent as maybe 18 years of age was Lagerfeld classic, and unsurprisingkly enough it also contain all mentioned four notes.

Hello Sir, I'm a silent viewer for quite some time of your videos and really like your channel. As a middle aged man of 37 y., I love wearing classic men's clothes and I'm a huge fan of classic men's fragrances as well. I own a collection of ten fragrances and Chanel's Egoiste is besides Guerlain's Heritage EdT my favorite one for colder weather. To me Egoiste is a great signature type fragrance for autumn/winter for well-dressed gentlemen. Great review Sir! Greetings from Germany.

Another for Boucheron Jaipur Homme EDP. Excellent spicy frag for cooler days from a classy house. I picked it up for £29. Released in 1996 and also Boucheron Pour Homme for summer, released 1990, but both relevant today

I inherited a bottle of 90s Egoiste when my father died in 2001 and thus had the chance to compare it to a early 2010s bottle when I got into proper "chaply" matters and I have to concur with others here - It may very well have lost some of it's punch. Of course the old bottle may have a bit consolidated over the years but it *does* smell stronger. Of course the current one is still a perfectly nice winter fragrance! Thanks for the review and Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

Egoiste Platinum user here, I like to use mine in the summer months? Big fan of the Chanel House. Blue, Allure (OG, Blanche and Sport) also Pour Monsieur. Surprised you haven’t got the latter in your collection Ash? Super old school and super classy (in my opinion).

If you would like to enjoy a more british take on the egoïste theme, I highly recommend checking out Geo F. Trumper's "Sandalwood Cologne" which, besides its misleading naming, is quite close to the original. A little less refined and "blended", but with a certain rustic charme.

Top Lad, my boy. Wonderful review about a wonderful and timeless classic. Have a couple of different bottles from Chanel, but this is one i need to buy a big bottle of. I just finished a 10 ml decant from decant boutique.. this will be the first fall and winter fragrance i buy next year. I already have my sights set on a new fragrance for spring, but this will be with my collection one day.

I am still recovering from my first experience with the cologne BRUT as a high school student in Northern Virgina in the 70's...I still cringe remembering that 'scent'. But then, a classmate shared his then high class "English Leather" with me, and I was hooked!

I used to buy it and the Pour Monsieur one. This has two types: a longer lasting version called concentreé or similar. 100ml bottles used to be £67 when I got it around 2000..

Excellent review, Ash. I highly recommend you try Boucheron Jaipur Homme. I am 100% sure you’ll love it. It’s a cheapie that has so much class and complexity. Cinnamon, verbena, vanilla, and woods. Both EDP and EDT are fantastic and cheap.

Hi Ash - am enjoying your content - like your style . I have a tiny 4ml bottle of Egoiste , which I like very much and is absolutely a cooler weather frag. Am very keen to try platinum - as I like sweet . However - I’m leaning toward used vintage/ discontinued, rather than designer stuff . Blind buying designer frags is a minefield of potential disappointment. How do ordinary folk who are not clued in about reformulations manage to find something decent they like and that lasts . Tricky. V good review 👍 Cheers 🥂

Fragrances are chemicals sprayed in the skin and skin absorbs them. This comes with a risk for health. Regulations banned many cancerous chemicals with the result of weakening or even changing the original scent but for the better. Chanel always comes close to the original. Good one.
@OmarZ77 Жыл бұрын
I don’t recall many if any regulation that banned fragrances for cancer. It’s mostly because a small minority of people would be allergic to some (mostly natural) ingredients. Guerlain is another brand that does well keeping the original smell, but even their perfumer Thierry Wasser complained that the regulations are ridiculous at times
@viclucyzia Жыл бұрын
@@OmarZ77 Agency is called IFRA to which regulations all companies making fragrances must comply. And several cancerous chemicals have been already banned for the good of the health of the consumer. Here a exerp: such as benzophenone, methyleugenol and styrene.[3] BCPP’s Right to Know report test of 100 personal care products and 40 cleaning products revealed the possible carcinogens beta-myrcene, benzophenone, and DEHP and endocrine disrupting compounds including DEP, oxybenzone, octinoxate and galaxolide.

I suppose it beats the old stock bottles of cheap Hi Karate ,flogged in pound shops . I have noticed modern versions of these classic colognes tend to have been weakened by EU red tape & not the strength they once were . A good aftershave should make your face sting & tingle like hell after shaving leaving you feeling alive & refreshed . I have noticed the modern aftershaves & colognes even the expensive ones do not produce this effect & tend to produce odours reminiscent of a Guatemalan hookers handbag .
