Hi Ruth Great video as always, thanks. How can we use the same technique in Live Connection setup? I am connected to a cube and can't enter any additional table to it. I need to display a dropdown that will have the names of all the "Hierarchies" and upon selection the matrix will only display the selected one. Hey Ruth, thanks for the video! I am wondering how can i add a dax measure into a filter visual? I wish i can select the dynamic results based on a calculated measure.. for example, I'd like to filter the 'Last Available Date' calculated based on the dax measure, I have Country / Product ID / Category / Last Available Date etc. columns into the table visual, the Last Available Date would be different based on Country, Product ID and Category.. could you please give me some ideas that i can put the dax measure 'Last Available Date' into a slicer? Hi There, thanks for this! Great technique to use. Quick question: I see there's an issue when trying to export the underlying data to Excel. Seems like only the totals get exported. After doing some investigation it seems like this is the issue: Per the documentation: "If the visual uses data from more than one data table, and no relationship exists for those tables in the data model, only data for the first table is exported." Is there a way to enable one to export the underlying data to Excel? Thanks for the great content!

Hey thanks for a great hack, but i am stuck ...... I tried implementing same on my paid media dashboard but for metrices like CPC, CPA Cost, the axis are not getting updated or maybe the formats are not coming as desired. For ex; for CTR the value should be in % whereas the chart displays in decimal and in metric like cost, CPM etc currency sign doesn't show up even though the individual values are perfectly in format but when combined together in the slicer turns weird..... Please help me sort this.

Hi Ruth, I have created the last year year to date (LY YTD) figures and year to date (YTD) figures from original sales data in power BI using measures. And I have also created three customer groups based on the LY YTD and YTD using measures. I would like to place the groups in power BI slicer so the other users can simply choose the group that they want to see and the sales report will show. But looks like we can’t place measures in slicer. I have tried the below methods but none of them work: 1, create columns instead of measure for LY YTD and YTD. However, it’s not working as they appeared to have dependency issue. 2, using SWITCH functions tried to link the measures with the sales report, still not working. The demonstration video that I looked at only shows the total figure, but I would like to have the list of all the customers that under the selected group. 3, I’ve tried the VAR logictest but the similar issue as method 2. Do you have any suggestions? I’m not quite sure whether I’m on the right track to solve my issue but each method is so close to my expected result... really really appreciate your advise! 😊

@@CurbalEN I struggled to build a report that looked at a promotion as a percentage of transactions over £x value ( £x being a slicer of measures with varying amounts) depending on the measure selected I wanted that value to also show in a card visual on it's own. This solution did that and also allowed me to have a table with individual user performance with one column showing number of transactions, as opposed to all the measures showing with ugly blank columns. Space saver!

I want to make a Measure Selection but not link it to available measures, but I want to link it to certain values in a column. How would that phrase look like? Measure Selection Werkeenheden = SWITCH( TRUE(), VALUES('Werkeenheden'[Werkeenheid]) = "PEFA", ('kpiexport fymonths'[Name]) = "Pellet Plant (PEFA)", VALUES('Werkeenheden'[Werkeenheid]) = "SIFA", ('kpiexport fymonths'[Name]) = "Sinter Plant (SIFA)", doesn't work, I get an error stating: A single value for column 'Name' in table 'kpiexport fymonths' cannot be determined. This can happen when a measure formula refers to a column that contains many values without specifying an aggregation such as min, max, count, or sum to get a single result. How to solve this?

+Sarvade Inder Hi Sarvade! I am not aware of a method for filtering the slicers. You could use parameters, but that will not set the values of the slicers or build your measures so they filter the data by current year and month, but that won't set the values of the slicers either... Perhaps somebody here knows? /Ruth

Ruth, thanks for your videos and comments. To upgrade measure selecting using slicers, is it possible to add another slicer with e.g. 2 measures with yty comparison 1. difference 2. % that work together with measures we already have. For example, if Total Sales is selected and YTY difference is selected we see YTY difference of Total Sales (this can significantly reduce number of measures to be created)

Hi Ruth, In the Example given if I choose Multi select in the slicer and choose both Total Sales and Total costs the sum of both the total sales and total costs should be displayed i.e implementing multi select in the slicer with your logic.

Hi Ruth. I think this only works when you are doing a graph with dates. If you try to use it in a table, and segment the "changing variable columns" acoording to one non-changing column (ex. sales or costs BY PRODUCT), then it wont work. I have tried and prompts the error that the table needs to be related. Example: Product Sales A 100 B 200 change with a slicer to.. Product Units A 10 B 20 Thanks! Your are awesome!

Hi Ruth, I checked on the link you provided and you can only change measures. Is not possible to change dimensions or categories :(
