I haven’t mentioned this on a public format, but a while ago I realized something interesting abt how Spinel’s trauma relates to her identity as a rubberhose-esque character. I was watching Crowne Prince’s Scribble Kibble episode on Cuphead, and during that, she said something that stuck with me; specifically, that a major mark of rubberhose animation is that the characters are always in motion, and they never stay still. While Spinel did just that for 6,000 years. So yee, just something I find interesting.

Actually... Thanks to Spinel I was able to point out what was happening to ME (emotionally and psychologically), and even though it caused one of my worst depressive episodes, it actually helped me and pushed me towards wanting to get better and to be better. It took YEARS (and more things that I won't tell), but now I can finally say that I'm in a better place. That 's the main reason Spinel is my favorite character in general and my main kin

One thing that ive been attached to in these last 5 years has been the relationship between Steven and Spinel and how they could have been the perfect duo but they just didnt and everything got ruined in SUF and the worst part is that i never saw anyone talk about it

I’ve been loving your video essays, even tho there only two of em (that I know of) you always point out things people overlook 90% of the time! I think a lot of people can agree that the collector from TOH and spinel are similar but I always feel like spinel and crona from soul eater are opposites while being super similar as well as the collector. but anyways your super underrated so I hope you get lots more love

AAAAAA This is so good !! It is a very well put together essay and is of nice quality, especially for your second one! You are also very good at explaining things and are a natrual for this genre of video (anyone who says otherwise will meet my wrath) I don't have much else to add, since pretty much all of my opinions on Spinel align with yours, but yeah ! Keep up the good work !!

9:55 I saw this clip from a while back. I'm gonna presume Garnet getting her memories back was Steven saying something along the lines of "Because its not the truth" to spinel hating on herself and thinking Steven wants to hurt her, instead of actually somewhat caring about her the way he does with the rest of the people that Pink/rose hurt. It was Steven's caring sentiment that brought back Garnet's memories, due to her care of the crystal gems and the two halves that make her. hence her repeating what Steven says "the truth". idk I found that bit really compelling and thought I'd infodump abt my thoughts

You did Great job on the video essay! Spinel IS my favorite gem in the movie, and I know that Rebecca Sugar has a soft spot for Betty Boop and the Fleischer and UB Iwerks cartoons, which are Beautifully animated and toxic dark. Like Spinel, Old fashioned and frozen in time. Which some of the reasons I fell in love with her.

I haven't seen anyone bring this up, but "Happily Ever After" being written as the characters singing to the audience makes the movie feel like it's not actually happening canonically and is just them putting on a play.
