HI thank for the video. I have one suggestion for people. After I took the tape off the spool and pulled out the few inches of plastic string I put it down for a second. the string practically jumped to unwind and sort of made a birds nest. I tried to straighten it out but really I don't have any confidence it will feed right in the future. People should be warned to keep a grip on the spool once the tape is off.

How about showing us how to do the re-stringing when the spool run out?
@arlie57
@arlie57 8 жыл бұрын
I replaced the string for the 1st time on my brand new trimmer. It would not feed line. It would break off and I had to take it all apart and manually feed line. Upon closer inspection, I found that the plastic cam gets bound up under the new spool. It did not have a spring either. Under the spool you will see cogs where the cams should engage. So, I centered the end of the plastic cam on the trimmer head in it's slot and replaced the cover. WOO hoo! It works. You can tell if it's bound up if, when you replace the cover, it is stuck in place. If you have centered the cam and it finds it's way back into the slots/cogs under the spool, then the head will easily rotate back & forth about 3/8's of an inch easily, and you can hear a clicking sound as the cams engage the slots in the bottom of the spool. Hope this helps.

I only get to trim maybe 80' the most on one spool. I have a B&D and I hate it. The cost of the spools to trim my yard costs almost what I was paying for landscaper. Idk if I am doing something wrong.

I am an older mom/kids grew up so it has been a while since I worked with lawn equipment so excuse my ignorance. I have the above grass hog model. It is suppose to auto feed. I had to keep stopping, opening and pulling out more feed. I took the spool out and fooled with it pulled some line out and now as soon as I turn it on the line feeds continuously and immediately gets tangled around on the outside of the spool. Any suggestions?

I would like to find a complete replacement for the auto feed on these. I have two because they run out so fast. I get free ones from people who dont want to use them any more. Any way My wife is the trimmer but I am the re spooling professional. We start our mowing day by me setting two or three trimmers all ready to go. Two Black and Deckers with 6 batteries. and a corded trimmer as a back up. I hop on the mower and take off. I get the front mowed, then 1/2 of the back yard and she is chasing me down needing a re wind. arrrggg. Any upgrades out there. I would just buy a good steele or something like that but the wife wont use a gas trimmer and I keep getting all of these free Black and Deckers.

I replaced trimmer head with a brand new spool purchased from HD. I seem to have followed the instructions in the video and on the package that it came in. Once I fire up the trimmer the line becomes loose and creates a huge mess. What could I possibly be doing wrong? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure why we had so much trouble with the trimmer, but it did not feed right and put a piece of filament into my wife's ankle (fortunately she was wearing jeans so it was minor damage). So with the arrival of your email I went out and rewound the spool as carefully as I could, stuck it all back together and gave it another try. This time it worked just as it was supposed to. Still, not looking forward to replacing the reel once it gets empty.

RedroomStudios I guess it really depends on how much you value your time. Currently you can get a pack of 3 x 30" spools for 19.97($.22 per foot) with "free" shipping through Amazon(not a bad deal compared to my local home improvement store). Alternatively you can get 1800 feet of replacement line for $21.99( $01. per foot) with "free" shipping on Amazon. Lets say you go through 1 spool a month(30") like I do on my modest yard. The 1800 feet will last me 5 years. Whereas the pre-spooled replacements will last me 3 months, so I'll need 20 replacement packs of 3 within the five years. Assuming I buy it all at once, or that inflation doesn't go up, 20($19.97) is $399.40 before tax(a difference of $377.41 than if you buy the line in bulk) . It takes about 4 minutes to respool the line with the replacement line(in my experience), so, over 5 years at 12 months that's 60(4 min) or 4 hours. $377.41 / 4 is $94.35 per hour you lose in the name of convenience. I guess if I made over $94.35 per hour, or anywhere near it, it'd be worth it to buy the replacements. TL;DR medical doctors and anyone else fortunate to exchange an hour of their time for $94 should totally work their comparative advantage and buy the pre-spooled stuff.

I have changed the spool on my autofeed trimmer at least 3 times before and never had any issues. now when I changed it for the 4th time it refuses to feed out more line as the cutting piece gets shorter. I have looked at the B&D instructions and watched your video and I cant see anything I have done wrong... and it`s so simple! this is annoying!

I had the same trimmer as in the video and now I just bought a new 40v B&D trimmer...it has more power but when I flip it to do edging it seems to stop self feeding and get jammed. Very frustrating. My neighbour was watching me keep stopping to rethread the thing. Very embarrassing.

Dustin Fowler Open & take out the spool. Take a look at the string wrapping. If the string line is crossed/wrapped, then take it out & wrap line to the side. Not to cross over the string.

I have a B&D 20v Lithium wacker and the spool looks just like yours but it doesn't feed at all. After a minute or two the string breaks and so I have to take it all apart and pull more line out manually. Something is not right. But what? Isn't it supposed to feed on its own? Kinda worthless as is.

Not correct. You MUST trim the line to the inside edge on the metal tab line cutter in the bottom of the shroud. If you do not, it will make a loud popping noise trying to cut the line. The line has to be shorter than the line cutter when you put it in. The line cutter is the L bracket cutting tab located on the outer edge of the bottom of the plastic shroud. If you lose this L bracket the line will not be cut automatically and you will get a loud popping noise because the line is not being automatically cut by the L bracket.
@RedroomStudios
