After viewing a couple other tire replacement videos, I just wanted to say that the straightforward strategy you show here worked for me. No heating of the tire necessary. Check. No removal of the wheel. Check. Getting a Carter tire which does not need to be trimmed. Check. Have the same bandsaw (Powermatic). Check. Wait, that last part didn't matter. :) thx

It may have helped me that I have replaced my knobby mountain bike tires numerous times. Doing a bandsaw tire is nothin' compared to that debacle. :)

After watching several other channels showing the "best" way to install tires, I found yours and said to myself, "This makes the most sense of all of them!" It most certainly is the best and worked just as you said it would. Thank you for this video!

A very good explanation and demonstration. I did a lower wheel with only three clamps and had just a bit more trouble, but all in all an easy job because of your demo. It might help that I've busted a few car and motorcycle tires too ;)

I did my 17" tonight. I did not have a pile of spring clamps, so I used zip ties instead & it worked great. When I got half way, I took two 1/2" round bars about two feet long, put one at eight o clock & one at four . Then popped the tire right on

Hi Alex -- Thanks so much for the video. I am putting new tires on a Powermatic 1800 (not B) in a local shop. The top wheel came off without any problems, but removing the lower wheel is a problem/mystery. Seeing the saw in the background, I thought you might be able to advise me on how to do this. Thanks for any help. John in Port Townsend, WA

Thank you for the awesome video. The wheels on my PowerMatic 14" PMBS-14 have tire a channel that is .094" wide. The old tire was slightly under 1" as well. The new urethane tires are exactly 1.00" wide, slightly wider than the wheel (the wheel is crowned and impossible to measure accuratly, but the old tire COULD be measured ). Will a 1" tire on a .094 channel run OK in the long haul (I already installed them). I couldn't find narrower after market tires. Thank you for the awesome video.
@johnq.public8643 ай бұрын
On another video I saw, the author demonstrated using a new, sharp cutting blade to trim any excess width. The Carter tires I got for mine were 7/8", I suspect they know that the slightly narrower width works best (hence the reason for it not being 1"). I heard (was it this video?) that the tire tends to spread as it flattens out a bit, so I can see the sanity in using a 7/8" tire.

WHAT SIZE TIRE SHOULD I BUY , My PORTER CABLE MANUAL SAYS I HAVE A 14 INCH BAW SAW ??????

Thank you, Alex, for best video on this topic! I just put new Carter urethane tires on my Jet 14" bandsaw. I used warm water for 5 minutes first and they went on pretty easily. My question is: now that they're on, I reinstalled my 1/2" blade and I cannot get enough tension on tensioner! Tried a new 3/8" blade as well - same thing. The new tires are quite a bit thinner - is there some adjustment in tensioner mechanism I need to make? Jet manual and Carter instructions say nothing about this. Thanks!

What saw do you have?
@markduykers660311 ай бұрын
@@bandsawlife2660 Thanks for the quick reply. It’s a JWBS-14X. Actually just figured out that the stop collar on top had to be moved up to allow more tension! Didn’t see the tiny set screw in it last night. Also, no mention of this in the Jet manual!

Hi, I have a Craftsman Bandsaw Model 113.248322. I put new blades and tires on it. The problem I have is, when I try to cut something the blade stops turning, the wheel stops, the tires aren't slipping, the wheels stop turning. Can you help? Thank You
@bandsawlife2660 Жыл бұрын
Check the pulleys, sounds like they’re slipping. Either you broke a woodruff key or there’s an Allen screw loose.

I have a WWII bandsaw, cast iron. How can I tell what width tire to order? I understand the length, not sure about the width. Thks.
@bandsawlife26602 жыл бұрын
Measure the edge front to back. Generally the same width for rubber slightly less for urethane.

I use the same music on my videos as you! I just got my first BS. It's a older Rockwell 14 with a riser. I need to replace the tires. I bought Carter tires. They measure 13/16 out of the box. My wheels measure 15/16 or more accurately .95 with my caliper. When installed I have about a 1/8 difference. Would you feel confident running these tires? You mentioned spreading out over time and also to shove them to one side or the other. I know you mentioned this I just want to get some clarification. Thanks.

Hi Alex, I sure do miss The Woodworking Shows, and watching you work your magic with a band saw. I wanted to ask if Carter makes a jig capable of resawing a log that is about 5 feet long. I have seen jigs from many companies that will work for something around 1 or 2 feet in length, but nothing longer than that. I do not have access to a proper mill, nor do I live anywhere close to one. I have a ceder log from a tree that my Mom loved, and when I had to take it down, I kept a larger piece of it so I could make something. I don't know what that something is, but I know I need to mill it down to 4/4 or 5/4 to see what I have to work with.

The largest I’m aware of is about 24”. Hope to be on the road again in January. Thanks for watching
@bushmaster29363 жыл бұрын
Why can't you make a sled for the log , guided by a cleat on the bottom of the sled in your miter saw slot? You would need infeed and outfeed supports of course. Don't know your log's diameter, but after you make cuts to square two sides, you should be able to run the log against your fence to cut the rest of it into what ever you want for thicknesses. Just a thought. : )

Great video... I just picked up a 14" Jet bandsaw that had not been used in while. The rubber tires blew apart upon start-up. I bought and installed new urethane tires (not Carter). However, I could not get both a new and old blade to track. Meaning, the blade moves forward and backward 3/16" when I spin by hand or under power (all guides and rollers are backed off). I found some bubbles that could not be worked out and the width of the tire was larger than 1"; therefore I trimmed 1/16" off the tire. The large bubbles have gone away; however, there still is still a small variation in the outer surface of the installed tire. I did not put a dial indicator on the pulleys - they look good to the eye. I have ordered another set of tires to aid with this troubleshooting. Can you tell me if I should be focused on the tires or if there is something else going on? Thanks for all your great content!

Is the blade your using a Timberwolf? If the blade is reciprocating it a bad weld period!

Man, I wrote that 3 months ago, before I had ever resawn a single piece of lumber. I ended up upgrading my saw to the Carter guides, better belts etc. my small business if taking off right now, and I’ve probably resawn 250+ boards at this point, all within 15 thousandths tolerance and it wouldn’t/couldn’t have been possible without what I’ve learned by watching a bunch of your videos like this one. FWIW, I make these crazy CNC’d wooden blocks that go on insanely expensive speaker cables that are precision machined, which requires the tight tolerances on the bandsaw. I was losing my mind before I got that thing tuned up, but now it is an integral part of my workflow. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience so the rest of us have a fighting chance!
