That is one good tire tech. 40 minutes to change a tractor tire with ballast is fast considering most of the time is pump time. Good use of the lift arm to do the tuff part of the job. Well done ..........

@@wutntarnation so whats your plan when you need to change the tire? Or patch it?
@wutntarnation
@wutntarnation 3 жыл бұрын
@@jimjones4345 I put several handfuls of varying sizes of sawdust in the tire with the paint. That plugs any leaks. Many older tractors from the 40's and 50's have their original tires. Since I just put this new tire on it will probably outlast me. If I severley damage a tire so its destroyed I wiuld just rotate the tire to the damaged portion and drain the psint into a bucket to reuse on the next tire. Or after draining the paint, if the tire is salvageable I would break the bead (which is much easier since the rim isn't all rusted up) take the tire off, wipe off the damaged area, patch it, put the tire back on, inflate it and get back to work. Simple really. Farmers should have ingenuity when it comes to repairs. It's why we stock up on duct tape and bailing wire.
@roseymalino9855
@roseymalino9855 Жыл бұрын
Did you insert the paint directly past the bead? I can't imagine it being thinned enough to go through the stem. At some point latex becomes a goopy mess. Did you apply anything to keep it viscous?

The BKT are about the cheapest tire you can buy, but if you measure the lugs on them, they are not as tall as a lug on a Firestone, Goodyear, or other name brand tires, but they are about $300.00 - $500.00 cheaper, and they don't have a 45 degree angle tread on them like the higher end tires.

Around here they use calcium chloride in tractor tires. I've never seen anti-freeze in them.
@dgc1929
@dgc1929 4 жыл бұрын
They use anti freeze in the southwest and the south, it doesn't get as cold there. You can put RIM GUARD in them, which is beet juice, it won't freeze either, and it weighs more than chloride and water and anti-freeze. Chloride does a number on the rims if it ever leaks, beet juice will not harm anything if the tube leaks with that in it.

When did you take off the 150 lb wheel weight? (i always have to do that). When did you struggle to load the tire and rim into your truck by yourself and drive into town to the tire store? (I always have to do that). When did you take the rim back home and fix the rust holes in the rim? (I always have to do that). When did you drive back to town days later and drop off the newly repaired rim? (I always have to do that). When did you drive back to town and pick up the mounted tire? (I always have to do that). When did you put on the 150 lb wheel weight back on and smash your middle finger making you want to throw up and pass out all at the same time?( I only did that ONCE). I can see you are a smart guy.

The tires have brine in them, it's water that has a bunch of salt in it, that gives it that brown color, incredibly heavy, it weighs around 14lbs to the gallon. It is one of the most inefficient ways to add weight to a tractor, take an oil drum, fill it with water and try to roll it, you probably won't get far if you do get it to roll, same principle here. It won't freeze per say, but here in the frozen lands of North Dakota it will become slush, causing what we call square tires, where a flat spot will form in the tire and the brine holds that shape.

Weighted tires/wheels is a must for tractor stability. It keeps the weight low to the ground . Liquid ballast gives you the most bang for the buck especially when compared with iron weights. In some situations both iron weight and liquid ballast is required.

I would have fixed the old tire. That old tire is much harder then the new tire. whatever punctured the old tire definitely would have punctured the new tire.

I always use salt water (calcium salts not sodium salts) as water will saturate getting the water weight and the salt weight, why anti freeze instead?

Not calcium chloride ballast, straight antifreeze/water mix. Uhh, they don't make a tubeless tractor tire.
@davidharris6581
@davidharris6581 7 жыл бұрын
Actually most tractor tires are tubeless. Where did you ever get the idea they do not make them? The reason there are literally millions of old tractor rims rusted out is putting ballast in tubeless tires. Putting ballast in a tube is not as common because it is nearly impossible to not ruin a tube with ballast when you have a flat while working a tractor.
@leebarnes655
@leebarnes655 7 жыл бұрын
Actually NOT. Driving and owning tractors most of my 62 years on this planet. Name a single model that comes with tubeless, please as I've never heard or seen even one. Vast distinction between calcium chloride ballast and regular antifreeze/water ballast, one will rust, the other won't. Quite a few don't have ballast, but caring about tube life isn't any consideration when ballast is used. Since rim life IS a valid concern, it's only used when it's needed, in this case for stability, in others for getting excess power to the ground for minimum tire slip. This is in fact the first time I've seen regular antifreeze used for tire ballast, calcium chloride mix can be made to weigh a bit more. Especially older tractor drive tires were NEVER tubeless, the millions you refer to were tube type with minor leaks and combined with calcium chloride's hydroscopic aspect as well as being a corrosive salt yields the millions truthfully reported cases of rust and ruination on a grand scale. I maintain all drive tires come equipped with chloride ready, coaxial, specialized valve stem TUBES for attachment to this style of chloride ballast pump. Never heard of an idiot that pumps chloride into a tubeless tire either, that's a big $$$$ mistake. Inside a properly installed protective tube is the only place it's a good long term use idea.

Yeah yeah that's the easy way to do it. But you really needed a boom to take off that little tire?? It's called a hammer. Not all trucks have a boom and you have to make do. Beaten bigger tires off with a hammer. No need for such a big machine

Haha. I don't think you realized it so I'm by no means being disrespectful. But you bought 3 gallons of staright antifreeze and you're doubling, isn't that 6 gallons, or you running light, idk what part of the country your in but I would guess the south, so 1/3 would be that big of an issue. Again, I don't think you realized what you said so I'm not talking shit, just curious what mix you use??
