Thank you very much. This gave me the courage to finally get in there and change (flip, as it turns out) the blades. I knew the edge had nicks but didn’t realize how dull it had gotten. Works great now!

Yeah, the dullness sort of sneaks up on you!

John/Jon, (whichever). I've used YT for hundreds of tutorials, ideas, and insights. This one, sir, is by far the best step-by-step, real world, camera angles must be changed, video I've seen yet. You're an inspiration to those who seek to teach, and you're a leader of us students. Cheers!

Thank you. I just used my planer for the first time an hour ago and discovered some nicks on the blade. In five minutes, you showed me not only how easy it is to change, but also that there may be good blade on the other side. Super! I had stopped work and even went so far as to mark the nicking areas with a sharpies, expecting a complicated and possibly delayed process to get it back into operation. But now, I see that I can either just swap the fresh side with the nicked side - or install those spare (new?) knives that came with this old planer... Heck, I'll get back to my planing project in 15 minutes. Thanks!!!!!

Great video! FYI, on the bottom of the fold up outfeed (or infeed, I can't remember which) plate, I found a magnetic knife holding tool attached with Velcro. Not sure if they all came with one.

Great video! Thanks! I’m wondering- when I set the new knives on my jointer- I had to use a jig to get them set perfectly. I watched another video of a different planer that requires a specific metal jig to get the knives set at just the perfect depth and alignment. This model doesn’t need any jig at all? The knives will automatically be set up perfectly parallel and aligned simply by placing the screws?

On many jointers you do need to set the blade height using a jig or a straightedge. I actually have another video showing just that. On this planer, though, the blades register themselves in the clamp for height. No special jig needed.

I just picked up one of these for a good price, and then I found blades at a garage sale for super cheap. How many blades are there total? I haven't even taken it apart yet. I got a pack with 2 blades, so I'm assuming there are two??

The Porter-cable planers and similar styles have two opposing blades.

I guess with the newer model Delta planer you do not need to use the knife guage to adjust the depth of the blades as the the drum

There could be differences, it's true. This old planer of mine is sounding a little ragged lately, so I need either to take a look at the internals or buy a new planer!
