Changing the crank position sensor on a Volkswagen Beetle

As soon as the part comes I am attempting this keep in mind I don't mess with engines I don't really know anything about them except you should be able to start them up and they go but I'm learning at 44 I am learning because I have no choice I can't afford a mechanic thank you for your upload it has helped a lot wish me luck I'm gonna need it

What were the symptoms of failure for this component on this car? My wife's 2.0 petrol Beetle runs a bit rough, it's regularly serviced, it also struggles to start when the engine is hot after a run. Once cooled down it runs fine again.

That is a problem I observed as well. As long as the car is cool, it worked beautifully. When I would go out on a drive over 20-30 minutes, it would not start back up again until it cooled down again.

Was the shutting off with your beetle happening while driving? And would it start back up right after? And how did you dignose it? Vode reader?

Username Password when this happened with mine, I would drive for a distance and it would get warm. It stalled a few times in traffic and would not start. I would wait for about 15-20 minutes and it would start. Sometimes it would just turn over and would not start right away. I used an actron scan tool to tell the fault.

Hi, I suddenly had 3 elective peobpemas. 1, my odometer shows no speed, my outside temperature sensor stopped at 11 degrees, my fuel level, even though it goes up and down in turns, then drops to 0. These errors occurred simultaneously. what do you think it could be?

Let’s go in order that you posted. 1. The odometer could have a bad speed sensor (located on transmission) or unplugged 2. The temperature sensor is located in the very front of the car. (Ambient air sensor) is probably broken or has a short in the wires. It’s a little black sensor mounted near the back of the bumper. 3. Bad float level in fuel tank.

BLAQJESUS BOBBY FRIEND you sound like you may have a throttle position problem. It is losing connection from the gas pedal to the throttle position sensor.

shut off as in didn't start back ever crank but no start? I have 99 Passat right now crank no start getting spark no injector signal fuel pump changed and filter relay changed getting 12v

Mr. J try checking the pressure on the fuel system by using a pressure gauge on the fuel rail. On the fuel rail, it has a thing on it that looks like a valve stem for a tire. Connect the gauge to it. You should be get around 25- 35 lbs of fuel pressure. When the crank sensor went bad, it would just cut off and wouldn't start until the car cooled down.

Ocie Carlisle I was driving the car today and when it's cold start it runs fine but when it starts getting warmed up it starts wanting to shut off and if I don't push on the gas pedal it will shut off I'm thinking it might be a crank sensor now what do you think? I appreciate all the help you can give me

You may have to go to a junkyard and cut a plug off or order one from VW.

You never said anything about removing the engine Shield all of those cars have an engine Shield that sometimes can be difficult because the bolts rust out on them

True. But there are a good number of them that doesn’t have them anymore. If you’re one of the lucky ones to still have one, use PB Blast or WD40 and let soak for about 10 minutes.

My beetle has shown the red light (engine) then when being diagonosed it shows PO343 so i tried to look for the sensor i dont know which sensor to replace

Mercy Mongwa you have a cylinder 3 misfire. The #3 cylinder is the third one from the right side of the engine. Check the spark plug wire for breaks and connectivity. If no problem, pull spark plug and check for spark. If no spark, coil is bad.

Mercy Mongwa crank position sensor is in the front of the engine closest to the transmission on the engine block.
