Here we continue with our video series on boat motor maintenance. Changing the lower unit oil in the Yamaha 250 SHO is incredibly easy and relatively inexpensive.
All you will need to complete this process is a 4 MM allen head, a flat head screwdriver, and a hand pump. You will need two quarts of yamalube gear oil - check your owners manual for specifics.
As shown, it is a very easy and quick process and when done on a regular basis can extend the life of your motor. I change mine about every 50 hours which might be on the extreme side but I want to make sure this unit last as long as possible.
Similar to the engine oil, I usually do both at the same time to keep the maintenance synced up. I am not sure exactly what yamaha owner's manual says, but I know it is longer than 50 hours. But this maintenance schedule has worked well for me.

That is is really the only items you need. You might have to order a metric allen head because most are standard.
