@@aktchungrabanio6467 The executive team of the Trauma Center unanimously protested this termination, and all senior members of the Trauma Center resigned.[22] Van der Kolk filed a lawsuit against the Justice Resource Institute for several counts of action including misrepresentation and defamation. The suit ended in a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).[23] The suit was settled quickly out of court.[22] In 2020, the Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute closed permanently.[24] In May 2018, van der Kolk used the funds won in his settlement with the Justice Resource Institute to found the Trauma Research Foundation.[25][22] The Trauma Research Foundation was registered as a non-profit organization in July 2018.[26] en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bessel_van_der_Kolk

Im 60 knew something was really wrong early in life. Look in a mirror and cry. No one asked me. Had a vivid memory when I was 40. but it was, "yeah, I know it happened but that was then. Move on." Couldn't learn. Locked up. Barely holding down a job that I always feel overwhelmed in. At 50 I came across some child abuse books. Started working on it. But at age 60 reallly want to die. If I could quit work and get into this guys therapy I would. Trying. Tired.

Me too. I'm 61. I think the mental health industry is now taken over by NAMI. NAMI is a combination of family values, Christian fundamentalism and family values. There was a time when I really was getting well emotionally and that was in the 80's. I lived in NYC and went to every 12 step program, kept journals and had friends who had been through trauma with a good therapist. You get well by facing the truth of what happened to you. The mental health industry just wants to over diagnose you and give you medication and NAMI is perfectly happy with that. NAMI usurped my hard won mental health. I guess family values are more important.

As a very high functioning bilingual/dyslexic with a master ‘s in education from the UM, I am critical of teachers’ training. All the students that were in my program did not have a clue of what dyslexia is or how you help a child in your class... The help was supposed to come from a reading specialist after the kid failed your class... Because I am dyslexic and I was homeschooling a dyslexic son, I would be invited to some places to answer questions, but the questions were of such a level of ignorance that it was incredible that those students were paying so much money for a degree that had no practical value. As a matter of fact, I did not use anything I learned in my masters in literacy with my son. What was very helpful was that I volunteered in a research about dyslexic children using “interest base education.” So your comments of how disconnected is academia and how difficult is to bring changes, specially to places like UM that think they have all the answers and are not opened to constructive criticism, it is so familiar. And so for that, I am so thankful that you keep trying.

When he spoke about someone being asked how their parents settled their disagreements I was not expecting the answer to be that they never had any disagreements. This is the same as my situation but I have never heard anyone say that before.

FYI, I have no developmental trauma. After meeting my youth psych n closing up our sessions , there was a lengthy period of peace n balance in my life. I ran n took care of myself as best I could . I do not doubt your message n talent. Mr .Arvo Ylppo was a gem.

The things this man says are of like biblical proportions. He's like God on Earth. It's as if he has me down pat. Every reason for the massive why's in my life are answered by this man and nowhere else in everyday life.

He is brilliant ! I work with people with unresolved trauma issues and his stuff is invaluable. The only thing he misses is Gendlin's Focusing. Not sure why but it is a huge gap, and I offer Focusing and Whole Body focusing to help people with 'affect regulation strategies'. But hay he is brilliant anyway.

Appreciate the talk and Van Der Kolk, as usual. I must say, however, that with all of the scientific and intuitive identification of correlation and likely, but not proven causality, why is it that we still have such confidence in "temperament", as being genetic. We know that the brain and mind (Vagus Nerves, etc.), are being formed in utero. We also know that a mother's "stress" during pregnancy has many and varied negative outcomes for her offspring, be they immediately apparent or show up later in life. Temperament, I believe we will finally come to realize, is largely the result of the in utero environment in which it (the fetus) is adapting.

Professor you are not quite right that people who had not tasted milk of human kindness won’t get better with relationships. The opposite. Every animal knows this. But those people know that their therapists is just their therapists and they are so upset that relationships in a strict boundary doesn’t make a difference to them.

Traumas retain in people with very high arrogance. Entering (submersion 3 times with a certain prayer and crossing yourself) in water springs of orthodox saints(which are near or in monasteries) give very much power and sureness to people with depression, panic attacks, schizofrenia and other soul illnesses before getting to the eucharisty that heals all soul illnesses. There are some springs of mother of God Maria that heal all soul illnesses. Spring at the Monastery of st. Paraskevi at Tempi in Greece is one of many springs of saints in Greece. If you have chronic fatigue it is from masturbating, watching pornography, hate etc. 99% of all illnesses are from soul If you have diseases, bad luck, impotence, you can only have a discussion with the same person, etc. it can be from witch spellings. In the Zlătari church in Bucharest, every Wednesday at 17.00 it is read the akathist to St. Cyprian and st. Justin against charms and all demons. This akathist can be ordered at any other Orthodox church if you are baptized Orthodox. You must write your name and give it to the person receives the sheets, it is usually at the entrance to the church
