It was pretty easy. Make sure to get a good breaker bar and seat the Allen socket head before you turn it.

I did this for the 2nd time on mine not too long ago. Actually did the front diff, rear diff, transfer case and manual transmission all at the same time. GL5 for the diff's and transfer case and GL4 for the transmission. I got replacement hex drain bolts to replace the allen style after changing the fluids the first time. Those allen bolts feel really sketchy when taking them out. Like they are ready to strip out at any moment. Most likely due to the tool I was using but didn't want to keep trying my luck.

Smart. I’ll change to hex style bolt on the next round very likely. It’s from a Lexus right? Do you have the model number by chance?

@@512TXSDIY The Lexus part numbers are fill 90341-18060, drain 90341-24016. The OEM Toyota numbers are fill 90341-18032, drain 90341-24014. I got my drain plug off Amazon for $19 and the fill plug from eBay for $8. There are a bunch of posts on tacomaworld with pictures of people welding on nuts, allen sockets or using chisels to get these out.

How many miles was on your truck when you replaced that front Diff oil? Also what year is your Tacoma? I have the 23 Trd Off Road and was thinking of changing it out at 5 k just to be safe the Plant from Mexico added enough of that in there?

I have 59,978 miles or so and I assume it’s the original fluids. Mine is a 2018. It’s a cheap service so you should knock it out for peace of mind? I usually do mine every 3 years or 30,000 miles personally.

Crazy question for you. Do you happen to have any popping or a clunk noise when you first drive forward within 5-10ft?

@@512TXSDIY I just bought a Tacoma 2023 Limited in December at around 200 miles it started making that clunk / popping noise when you first drive forward. Had a Toyota engineer fly into look at it today and he said it’s the brake actuator doing a self test. I told him that I test drove 4 other Tacomas and 3 of them made no noise and 1 made a noise like mine but much quieter. He said it’s working properly and wouldn’t replace it unless it gets even louder. I guess the brake actuator is a $1400 install. It is one of the weirdest noises I have ever heard. It does it every time I drive forward. At least it only happens once per trip but still a pretty weird experience I’m having with this noise.
