Thats similar to how I send dvd's and cd's....I use leftover cardboard box material as well...I cut 2 layers to fit top and bottom on item then slide in bubble mailer. I have not had one refunded yet, knock on wood, ...seems to work just fine.

I've shipped hundreds of factory sealed DVD season series. It takes me :30 seconds and I've never had a damaged anything. We use our eBay store credit to buy 6x9 padded mailers. The DVD goes in it and is sealed. That then goes in a 9x11 padded mailer that's folded over and taped all around. Simple, fast and does the job perfectly...

I agree, i have shipped hundreds of dvd, video games, cd's etc in bubble mailers and never once had a complaint. If i feel its an expensive item i will protect it with a layer of cardboard. @Quarter Flips it sounds like you have a shitty post office employees problem moreso than a bad shipping method problem.

if people think this is overkill they would hate to see how i pack my cd's dvd's and records i have been reselling for 25 years full time both on amazon and ebay now 25 years later on 10 plus platforms for my dvd's and cds i ship them in a Walmart 12x8x6 box wih a 2 inch layer of packing peanuts then i lay the item on the peanuts and then fill in the rest of the box with more packing peanuts yep i bullet proof my boxes as you said i want to make sure it gets there in the exact condition it left here and id expect the same from other sellers you need to treat the item like you were receiving it on the other end like you said these are going Media mail there are packages 70 lbs could be dropped on top of that dvd or cd they do not separated bubble mailers from packages bubble mailers are actually considered packages! i learned from my mistake decades ago it only takes one after that one got damaged via media i never used a bubble mailer ever again you just have to include your shipping supply cost

@@pk3193 nope its packed in tight like a coffin didn't yiu read what I wrote I fill in 2 inches on the bottom then put the dvd, Blu ray or cd then full the rest of the box with more packing peanuts I make sure it's tight as a whistle when I close it up and tape it then do the shake test my media package will never be crushed like a 70bls box of books would do to a unprotected dvd shipped in just a flimsy bubble mailer so nope no joke btw why would you think it would shake around with package peanuts obviously you know nothing about packing correctly.

@@pk3193 btw I set a standard so if yiu ship a movie to the same person I have they will expect it shipped the same way protected tight snuggle up between 2 layers of packing peanuts not in some flimsy bubble mailer again as long as you pack the box full of packing peanuts surrounding the item that item is not going move anywhere

Ive got one for you. Take a piece of cardboard as tall as a dvd case and long enough to wrap around the case one, to one and a half times. Wrap it and slip it in a bubble mailer. The cardboard gives it extra strength and impact resistance. The bubble mailer keeps it all together and provides some protection from crushing. Seal the bubble Mailer and slap a shipping label on it. Its way less time, smaller package, with better protection. Try it.

Great Video and Thanks for sharing. I love the way you protect your dvd's. If you ever have to send, say a figurine that is Grand theft Auto in the mail? Wrap it with about 10 Wal-Mart bags. Just stick the figurine in a bag then in a bag etc. Then use lots of Walmart bags surrounding the figure. Tape box. Then do the same with this box and put it in slightly larger box surrounded by as many Walmart bags as you can. Tape the box appropriately. Now you can throw this box off a 2 story building and the figurine will survive. Now what is really cool about this is that the packing weights nothing, costs nothing and the figure is safe and is tight as a bug in the rug.

I do a very similar method to your second one except no cling wrap and 9x12 polybags to resist bad weather plus way cheaper the bubble or non bubble mailers. Also I cut up cardboard boxes with a paper cutter into 7 1/4x10" pieces and bend the sides all around on 2 pieces and just wrap tape around top to bottom and side to side once in the middle (looks like a t on both sides when done). Print out my label and stick it on. If you overhang the cardboard off the edge of a table it's way easier to bend however much you want to.

When selling a DVD I would first put some bubble wrap scrap inside the case to prevent the DVD popping off the holder, then sandwich the case between two pieces of cardboard, and then finally put all that in a bubble wrap envelope. I usually buy more than I sell so these items are all plentiful so there's nothing spent on shipping materials. Also if anyone is in need of cardboard materials just order some stuff from Walmart. They will usually send you a lot of boxes but they have been getting into the delivery service themselves so you might just end up with a bunch of grocery bags instead, which are still useful- and you just saved yourself some gas money. :)

yep this is how i have done it for 25 years i cut a piece of bubble wrap slightly smaller then the case in 25 years i have not had one dvd damaged in transit

Good video - you made me want to try something. So I took a single dvd and placed into a 6x9 bubble pouch(purchased on amazon), then took 2 6x9 cardboard inserts(purchased on amazon) and placed one on each side of the dvd(front and back), then placed the entire thing in a 6x9ish plastic polybag. A little overkill, but looks bulletproof

@@QuarterFlips yes! the breakdown of the extra costs for materials = .08 for the bubble wrap pouch, .37 for the cardboard and .04 for the poly pag. the cardboard from amazon is thin enough to slide on both sides of the dvd while in the bubble wrap pouch

First of all , I really like your videos and personality, I have learned a ton . I sell dvds too on eBay and other things now for 20 years , why not just get a wholesale account with a box manufacturer and pay for boxes ?if you pay 15 cents per envelope why not pay .25 or less for a small box that fits dvds ? The time saved is well worth the extra dime per box , at least for me it is . Keep up the great work I really enjoy the videos

Thank you so much! I think as time goes by and sales increase, I may look for an option like that. I've never found the right price, but I can say that I buy boxes each quarter with a free coupon I get from eBay for eBay branded items (a perk of a store subscription) and those boxes are super useful. Size-wise, they are good for lots of multiple DVDs, VHS, or CDs. For now, I'm happy with my current system for individual DVDs. Everything is subject to change if I find a better way though.

As a collector the extra effort speaks volumes for you the seller and will have far more repeat buyers as its preferred that the items arrive as nice as they looked in the photos. One nice touch I've seen is on cd's, dvd's and blu rays is the use of a little (maybe 2" x 2") square of foam or bubble wrap inside the case in the discs center to keep it from rattling lose of its spindle during transport. Nothing scarier or worse than getting that cd and having the package rattling b4 you open it all the while dreading what the disc will look like as a result.

So true about a package that is rattling before you open it. LOL. Most of the time my experience has been that the disc is fine as it can't travel too far side to side because of its size relative to the package, but I agree that a little effort to hold it in place is a nice touch. people should take any foam out of the case after they get it though. I have twice found cool older CD collections that had foam in the packages whee the foam had degraded and stuck to the discs and inside print. On some I could clean it off and you wouldn't know, but some left marks from the residue that made it not worth the effort. Have you ever seen that? If I find another, I'll make a video about it.

In my experience, if a disc looks brand new on the play surface, you can reasonably assume it will play. Any significant scuffs or scratches and you'll want to play test it.

Do you mean the Dogma DVD in the thumbnail? The DVDs in the Thumbnail are the copies that I sold, but I have found 5 or 6 copies of Dogma over the last year or so. There have been a few out the door since this video.

Why not use USPS flat rate DVD specific MEDIA mail boxes? They are free from USPS and only cost $3.19 if you print the label on ebay app. Super easy and very secure package. Way better than bubble mailer too.

Those boxes don't exist. The only free boxes they have are priority mail boxes. They don't ship at the media rate. That said, a less ethical seller could use those free boxes and put them in a bubble mailer, poly mailer, etc then ship at the media rate.

My wife and I are just getting into reselling, and I think I will try DVDs. I will do some research into the best ones to buy, and that second method is definitely better! My wife has arthritis in her hands and there is no way that first method would work for her, haha! This video was great!! You have a real knack for videos. Great content.

Thank you! The double wall boxes I get, I pick up at Home Depot. They are the Heavy Duty Medium boxes. Cost somewhere around $2.70 each and I get 2 LP size mailers and 8 flaps off each one. (Each flap can be used to mail a CD, 7" vinyl, or DVD.)

The envelopes are standard 9x12 catalog size and I just search for the cheapest on-sale deal I can find on eBay when I need them. Hope that helps!

New subscriber 😊 I use a similar technique after I had one cd get broken. But I use my $50 Ebay shipping credit to order the 6x9 padded envelopes. I cut up a box to wrap the cd or DVD for stability but I don't wrap in plastic. The bubble mailer is pretty tight so it protects from the elements. I'm looking at getting cd/dvd mailing boxes instead of cutting boxes. Pop it in the envelope and put the envelope in a box.

I don't love the way I'm doing them now, but it's the best combo of cheap & safe I've come up with so far. I bought 4x6 boxes with my eBay coupon. Great for the miniatures that I sell, but not really good for my media stuff.

I went to my neighborhood post office to mail off my one movie I sold and when I was leaving, a guy pulled up in a truck and the who back of the truck bed had usps containers full of envelope packages and big boxes. I’m thinking I need to do better by listing more so I can sell as much as him. I just put bubble wrap around dvd’s and put in tyvek envelope and never had one person complain yet.

Very thorough video mate. Not sure what its like over there in terms of postage, but sending something packed like that here (Australia) would most definitely be charged as a parcel. Which would mean in most cases, you'd be spending more on postage than what you'd get paid for the DVD, assuming it's a DVD of low value. I've sent a lot DVD's out in bubble mailers and yet to have one broken (I'll probably jinx myself now.. lol) And also depends on what I sell them for, if it goes for $25 or more, I'll usually send as a parcel with a fair bit of bubble wrap. Anything low value is sent untracked in a bubble mailer and I've had good feedback from that. I'd more so be worried about sustaining a repetitive strain injury from folding all of that stiff cardboard! :P Either way, good on you for taking extreme care of your sold item and customers.

NEW SUBSCRIBER Cool video... Nice pack job.. but too time consuming for me even the new style. I cut 2 strips of cardboard and put the dvd between them then put in a VHS size bubble mailer takes 2 minutes less time and no labor... on all my DVD sales $20 or over... the lower items I just bubble wrap. Been selling DVDs full time on ebay since 1997. CDs I double cardboard every one of them because they will crack.

@@QuarterFlips On Multi orders I will bubble wrap and box it up in a 4x6x8.. or a 7x7x7 depending on how many were ordered. DEF have to cardboard CDs/VHS/Cassette tapes/and Records.. Anyone not doing that is only asking for trouble. I am like you I hate bad shipping. I can't believe the amount of people that want to send a snapback hat in a poly bag. I am like NOOOOOO put it in a box...LOL

I cut down a box to fit on top of the DVD. Will the one piece of cardboard be sufficient? I'm going to insert the DVD case into a clear polybag (water protection) then put it in a bubble mailer. Your advice will be appreciated!

Hey Hey! The envelopes I got are 9x12. I have never used the promote option on eBay and I have never seen any reason to. I'm not totally sure what it even does.

@@QuarterFlips basically, it should give your listings more relevance. But if there are not too many competitors selling the same item, then probably it is not worth it. Btw, it can be worth to try it and analyze the stats eBay gives you on what you have sold through promotions

I can't sugarcoat it...this is a terrible shipping method, your packaging cost is much higher than it should be and not to mention I could ship 10 DVDs, label and everything before you get done packaging 1. Your time should be more valuable and this method is not sustainable if you want to grow your DVD listings. If you want to sell 10 or less per day then absolutely do what you feel you should do, but with growth, time is the most important thing and this method will just cause alot of lost time

My honest guest is that if we were both set up to pack our stuff I could get one of mine done with a label in the time it took you to do maybe 5 or 6. You'd still be way faster, obviously.

Shipping costs for DVDs is way too high anymore. The average DVD costs $3.19 to ship, that's more than I pay for them in the first place. Profits lately are very low.

Up here in Canada, our postal rates must be crazy high compared to yours! Anything thicker than about 3/4inch goes from being a $3.19cad mailer to being a $15cad parcel. On a 1 or a 2 dollar dvd or videogame it just doesn't make financial sense for us to pack them as well as you are showing here. You definitely have superior packaging but up here the money just doesn't work on the little dollar items.

Nope. Fixed price. That's the cost including shipping by media mail. So 6.99 and 7.99 DVDs are really bottom of the barrel for me.

No problems that you know of. I've received many DVDs in bubble mailers and many of the cases were damaged in shipping. I never complained to the sellers. It just opened my eyes to the reality of that shipping method.

Interesting method. I have always used bubble mailers and have not received any complaints (thousands of games and DVDs sent that way). For more expensive DVDs, I ship in a 8x6x4 box which is also good for expensive box sets. As you scale up, your method is going to be very time consuming, so I would trade that time for maybe using a box instead. It cuts into your margins a bit, but you probably can get them in bulk from Uline for a little more than the envelopes.

Your time is precious dont waist it on a $10 dvd that will ship fine in a bubble 10c mailer, I can see what your trying to do and for items over say $20-$30+ I agree you could go that little extra but for a $10 DVD... its way over engineered, I have sent thousands of dvd/cd/blurays in bubble mailers they take 3 seconds to load and cost about the same as your white envelope👍

Hand writing that stuff is a nightmare! All that is behind me now, as I did get my own thermal label printer. It has totally changed the game.

You are still over working yourself, how much money are you saving, I buy boxes for about 37 cents and pack them with free newspapers from stands at stores. You are also talking about taking time to write addresses and media instead of printing your own labels, printing your own labels you never have to wait in post offices as most have drop off spots and pretty sure ebay gives a shipping discount. ink is expensive but using black only it last a while. Been wathcing other videos on time effeciency and less time you spend shipping and waiting at post office the more time you can spend listing. I do use pretty similar method to ship books though but i use a polybag instead of envelopes.

I hear ya, but not too long after this video I got a thermal label printer and have been using that to great success for weeks now. Also, I didn't hand write the addresses, I printed them out and attached them to the packages. Neither here not there now, but I must have said something confusing at some point because multiple people have mentioned me writing them and I haven't done that for many years. It's an evolving process for me over here and I appreciate whatever input I get. Thanks for watching!

@@QuarterFlips no prob, if anyone is interested in boxes i get i find cheapest listing of 100 boxes of 8x6x4 whicj you can usually find $35-40 and they fit DVD and VHS which I sell alot of, I also order 8x6x6 and 8x8x6 for when i set a few at a time, I watched your other videos after this and seen you found a bunch of vhs to sell too so maybe worth looking into.

I watched a video one time where someone said there are people who believe that even selling at a small loss can stimulate the eBay algorithm and get more eyes on your other items. I don't know if I believe that's true, but you are right, some sellers have items that they must be losing on.

@@QuarterFlips yeah Cassini is a fickle bitch. I’m still not going to price at a loss, I do buy 2 get 1 free and hope. DVD’s make up less than a 10th of my store and not much physical space so I don’t care if the sell or not. I think I do get a boost in other sales from listing them.
