It may sound silly, but your comment, "Well, at least my coffee tastes great" after losing $3k for the day is actually pretty therapeutic: it's those very brief, small doses of pleasure (dopamine, seratonin) that actually keep the brain sane. If I find a penny at the gas station, I'll over-exaggerate the pleasure of finding that penny, no matter what else happens that day (silently, because I don't want people to think that I'm nuts), or latch onto some other very small accomplishment (i.e great job sharpening that pencil today!), just to keep the negative moods from taking over my mind that day lol
