I, for one, care a lot. A world with even less wildlife than we already have is not one I want to live in and we ought to try to save an endangered species like the sawfish, which I dare say is iconic to kids who grew up reading field guides and other assorted literature.

Probably pollutants or some obscure micro-critter embedded in brain.. Important work.

Nope. Careful postmortem examination shows no signs of disease, low o2 levels, etc. Personally, I believe it has to do with the Gulf Stream and magnetic pole shift.

Ive seen similar behavior in aquarium fish. They've got something contagious. It'll just have to run its course. The immune fish will repopulate

Why? So some Asian fishermen can kill it? You need to figure out the cause, not waste funding.

its an endangered species, saving it gives it a chance to survive and reproduce…

Instead of spending a $million to save a fish, what about just transporting the fish to different waters? Maybe just 50 miles away.

It really depends, these fish could be adapted to the microenvironment they're in. You shift them to another area and they maybe don't adapt and die, or they outcompete local fish. Like a minor invasive action.
