Peter was at his top of his ability's at this time. Pending this fight he demolished Rom Kaman with a KO a few months before. This wasn't a fight of technique but full on war! Nobody till that time stood up against Thai fighters especially this one. To bad he isn't around anymore, he'd be an example in todays (fight) world.

@@DouglasGomesBueno-jw9lh I vehemently disagree. Technique is the biomechanical efficiency of your strikes. Total power and speed are a function of your technique, size , physical tools, and athleticism. Timing either falls under fight IQ or is its own category but it's definitely not technique. There are guys who can hit pads beautifully but suck in sparring because they don't have a feel for WHEN to throw their techniques.

It was one of the top brutal fights I have seen. I don't understand why Peter used the spinning back kick. His back kick wasn't powerful enough. Most fighters don't have much success when they use fancy kicks. The Thai boxer was good too, and I could see his power.

He was also World Champion in Kyokushinkai karate in Hawaii. Those spinning kicks and his relentless style caused him the name ''The Hurricane''. He probably thought it would work but that's why he only used it once and adapted fast.

Roufus didn't give enough attention to the hole in defense he had in that fight. He was an incredible fighter, but treated that particular fight way too much like an ordinary full-contact rules bout. Him winning the first couple of rounds made him even more cocksure and he missed an obvious KO opportunity, very soon paying dearly for it. Kiatsongrit, got to hand it to him, is a very tough guy, but relied too much on one single technique. If Rick didn't know what to do with that - the many fighters who came after him, already solved the "puzzle", and the result was according, KO most of the times. Peter Smith is just one of many, this song repeated itself again, again, and again.

@DouglasGomesBueno-jw9lh .... Holy shit, the internet is filled with stupidity from stupid people. Dude, in combat sports, between highly skilled athletes, ANY measurable size discrepency can make a BIG difference in the outcome.... EVERYONE who knows ANYTHING about combat sport understands this. In a fight between elite fighters (i.e. highly skilled), a difference of only 5-10 lbs can, and often does, make I BIG difference... and sometimes 5-10 lbs between people isn't visibly noticeable. THIS was visibly noticeable. So, shut the fuck up... you're dismissed.
@joerogue2317 ай бұрын
@@smashleyscott8272 Changpuek is always at a disadvantage against foreign fighters. For example Changpuek's best weight was 140-150 lbs but he still fought Rick Roufus who was 163-167 lbs and did so under Kickboxing rules ( knees weren't even allowed ) and yet Changpuek still won. Changpuek always wanted to fight at 140-150 lbs but no foreign fighters accepted to fight him at those weights because they knew Changpuek was the most powerful fighter on the planet at 140-150 lbs It doesn't matter if it's Kickboxing or Muay Thai rules. At 140-150 lbs only his fellow Thai fighters can fight competitively against Changpuek but the Thai promoters didn't want that because Changpuek made so much more money fighting foreigners who were 10-40 lbs above his best weight ( 140-150 lbs ).
