In this episode - we mostly shelter from the rain but do get a chance to get to work on the Peugeot Hoggar now it's here with me in the UK.

Here in Brazil we use 100% ethanol, except where gasoline is less expensive, it varies from state to state. First flex cars had a gasoline starter small tank, the but by 2010 I believe most manufacturers had eliminated it by replacing with some glow plugs (like diesel, right?) to warn the ethanol on cold starting. I don’t know, I’m from Rio de Janeiro and what is considered cold here is anything bellow 30°C

This Hoggar is equipped with the "cold start" fuel tank, it is a tank with a red lid. This system was replaced by the Flex Start system, which uses heating in the injection nozzles themselves and/or also heating candles in the injection nozzle flute.

Right now its 9°C but it's encouraging that my Hoggar starts instantly in these temperatures. The sensors must all be in good order.

you probably got some gasoline in that small tank because the injection is automatic.

@@Channel205UK on the 2 weeks of cold we have in Rio de Janeiro (between 9~14°C on my area) my UP never had problems to start on ethanol. Starting on cold was a known problem on old cars from the 70s and 80s, on the mid 90s I believe it was a thing from the past.

7:05 i'm willing to bet that corrosion was caused by the use of our sugar-cane ethanol. That fuel contains water in its composition and sometimes water accumulate in the back mufflers because its never hot enough to evaporate. The exhaust on flex-fuel or ethanol only cars always corrode from the inside out, specially if you use poor quality fuel

My family exclusively uses ethanol for years and I didn’t saw corrosion because of it, usually I saw those kind of corrosion on cars that are parked outside on the grass, mine is parked over a cement floor and didn’t corroded. Only the regular surface rust spots on a few parts.

That's interesting to know thank you. The exhaust gas does have a smell to it which I assume comes from it still running ethanol remaining in the tank as I have not yet put any UK fuel in to it.

Is E85 available there? It would run very well on it

That rear muffler was marked as Faurecia, there's a big chance it was the original.

Indeed. I am well stocked up on anti corrosion wax for winter!
