I remember the night my Aunt died and we watched Channel 4 to the bitter end. It still makes me emotional to hear the boom at the end of ident and takes me back to July 1995 in a heartbeat.

Time on the clock: 03:41 am?! That is late. BBC1 and BBC2 did not close as late as that.

They'd also be back on the air 2 and a bit hours later making it rather pointless to shut down for such a short amount of time. C4 had stopped closing down by the end of 1996. TBF though both BBC1 and 2 could often go on almost as late at this point too and both would stop doing 'real' closedowns (as in the transmitter feed is actually cut rather than airing filler) in 1997, and ITV had already been running 24/7 for some years. This sort of era in the mid-late 90's was the end of the road for closedowns.
