Those inners look very cool. I used MoFi inners for many years, then switched over to Sleeve City Diskeeper inners cuz they’re more substantial than the MoFi’s and don’t bunch up in the corners, but those inners look to have taken it to a whole other level. I’ll certainly be ordering some. Thanks, Frank!

Talking about dust getting onto a record Frank have you ever had the situation where you cleaned a record and your stylus started pulling dust off the record in great wedges. I had that experience with a Genesis LP today that frankly didn't look or sound too bad BEFORE I cleaned it? I've had it before too, so I'm a bit wary of cleaning records. Maybe this should go in one of your AMAs??
@Channel33RPM5 жыл бұрын
I have never had this happen. Interesting. What method did you use to clean the record?
@CornishMotorcycleDiaries5 жыл бұрын
@@Channel33RPM Two stage process, first the good old detergent and water then cleaning and partially drying with a microfibre cloth, then the isopropyl alcohol and cleaning off again. Oh and the carbon fibre Brush to finish with. Am I somehow putting dirt BACK in the grooves again. Yet the record looks pretty clean under a hand lens. I am also wondering if I am loosening impacted dirt and pulling it out with the stylus. It is an old record and not valuable. A record cleaner is on my birthday wish list!

Hey Frank, another good episode, I like those new inner sleeves, I’ve been using MoFi which I really like too. I have a question, have you ever head of “Last” for record protection. I recently revived my record collection that hadn’t been used in decades and I am really enjoying my old vinyl. I was pretty anal about holding my albums correctly even those 50 years ago. It paid off. Back to “Last” I found that I had treated several LPs with this product back then and I do have to say they sound great today. Virtually no surface noise. I just bought more and will try to treat my entire collection. Maybe time for you to review?

Definitely going to be picking up some of those inner sleeves when I make my next order for the dual pocket outer sleeves! Do you know if he is planning on doing ultra-clear versions of the inner sleeves, or is there a reason most inner sleeves are frosted?
@michaels85035 жыл бұрын
Hi Stephen The reason most inner sleeves are frosted is because the are either LDPE (inexpensive, typically used by record manufacturers or sold online at penny's per hundred) or HDPE (better product) PE is extremely soft and won't scratch a vinyl records. The paper sleeves with a very thin plastic sheet are also LDPE, but thin enough to be translucent.Unfortunately, using any paper type products can induce dust. Hope this helps? Mike

Frank, on a Canadian pressing what does that 4 part circle with MAPL mean?
@Channel33RPM5 жыл бұрын
Good question. It indicates Canadian content. The letters stand for: M (music): the music is composed entirely by a Canadian A (artist): the music is, or the lyrics are, performed principally by a Canadian P (performance): the musical selection consists of a live performance that is recorded wholly in Canada, or performed wholly in Canada and broadcast live in Canada L (lyrics): the lyrics are written entirely by a Canadian I think the areas that apply to a particular to the specific recording are shaded. Hope this helps! Cheers Frank

@helgar7915 жыл бұрын
Now, does this anti static solutions on the inside of the sleeves leach onto the record?
@Channel33RPM5 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. I didn't realize that all anti-static sleeves have some sort of solution in them, which prevents static. I've used anti-static sleeves for years with no issues. Frank
@helgar7915 жыл бұрын
@@Channel33RPM Well, the problem would be if the residue is baking onto your stylus, which would cause both uneven wear on the needle tip (subsequently causing the cartridge to wear out sooner) and uneven groove wear. Check for both. Of course, if you're as meticulous as I am about cleaning your stylus it won't be as much of a problem. I use both a brush and the Onzow after every side. Rice paper sleeve however are naturally anti-static.
@vinylstoragesolutions1775 жыл бұрын
@@helgar791 Good question! The Hdpe that surrounds the rice paper (misnomer) has antistatic additive. Leeching is typically an issue of the additive not chemically bounding with the Hdpe resin due to inferior resin with a recycled content.
@helgar7915 жыл бұрын
@@vinylstoragesolutions177 So I'm supposing that your inner sleeves use a non recycled content plus a superior resin? Isn't resin which comes from Italy better than that made domestically? Or do you use an antistatic additive that binds best with the resin that you use? I've noticed that your inner sleeves don't use a paper inner surrounded by your type of Hdpe. Doesn't using a sandwich type with paper in the inner layer make the sleeve stiffer, more crumple resistant and longer lasting? Doesn't using paper in the inner layer reduce the possibility of leaching since the paper will potentially absorb many of these nasty elements. Again, all "rice paper" sleeves use have an antistatic element, including the MoFi sleeves, correct?
@michaels85035 жыл бұрын
@@helgar791 Sorry for not responding sooner, crazy busy with orders. My resin supplier is a USA manufacturer that has a very good reputation with non recycled virgin HDPE, primarily developed for food packaging which has to be approved (tested) for the FDA and pharmaceutical market. I can't comment on Italian vs USA resin, though I do have significant experience Italian manufacturing equipment in the poly industry. I opted for a thick (4 mil) HDPE sleeve to remove paper that doesn't add any value, since the so called rice paper sleeves (not real rice paper) CAN'T absorb moisture through HDPE as it has a very low moisture transmission rate, its only there to stiffen the 1.5 to 2 mil HDPE layers. If you have one of those sleeves, fill it with water and wait to see that (unless the seams aren't properly sealed) the water won't be absorbed by the paper. I personally would rather have a 4 mil layer of protection on both sides, instead of 2 mil on one side and 4 mil on the other. Yes, most HDPE sleeves have some amount of antistatic additive. the cheapest ones that are very thin tend to be more recycled content and don't provide much protection, but do eliminate paper at least. Thanks Mike

Those inner sleeves are pretty cool! .. but I honestly dont know how I feel about the cut of the plastic going over the groove of the record. I would be scared it would cause unexpected wear on the record after a few years if it sitting.
@Channel33RPM5 жыл бұрын
I'll report back!
@michaels85035 жыл бұрын
Hi Gily I used HDPE as most inner sleeve products are made from that same material, the main reason is because it's soft and proven not to scratch records. Thanks Mike

I guess I will need to try out a couple of the new sleeves. My first knee jerk reaction is they just add another complex step. I guess that depends a lot on which outer sleeves you use, right? I use the resealable outer sleeves so I guess the Mofi sleeves seem to be tad easier. I could see maybe using those for grails that you don't play often or something? Let us know what you think of them after using them for awhile.
@Channel33RPM5 жыл бұрын
I will for sure. My go-to has long been the MoFi sleeves... and I don't imagine I will stop using them, but these ones are also very cool. Give me a few months to live with the new ones. Cheers Frank
@MrGezzh4 жыл бұрын
Hi Guys, Do you keep the generic white paper sleeves that come with the record? I have just replaced all of my generic white one ones with Mofi sleeves. I haven't however kept the white ones that came with that particular record together. I didn't throw them away but now I have no idea which one goes with what. Some are different shapes. I mean I am not planning on selling my collection so not really about keeping all to the original. More so about keeping the record nice. Obviously if its a custom sleeve I keep it with the record. I also noticed that some of the Mofi sleeves stick out of the record cover slightly but that's not that bad I suppose. Cheers
