Joe got cheated. Most trainers lift up at the toe. There's no actual proof he made contact with the red green. If you look at his right foot in the last shot, you can see that the toe of his shoe isn't in contact with the ground when his foot is flat.

I assume it was just to be funny or that sort of cringe you feel when someone gets hurt/falls and you're uncertain if it is bad or not yet. Or it just took his brain a few to realize it. Knowing someone is going down a runway and hearing the audience, about all you can imagine going wrong is that they fell (off the side, maybe more probably just down onto the stage itself, or into the drum), but it still might not immediately come to you when blindfolded.
