Robins is close friends with Alex Horne. They used to live together and have a shared KZbin channel where they upload about golf. Alex probably told him about the early idea that later developed into Taskmaster years before the first series got produced.

Ironically, tension IS measured in pounds
@1992jamo
@1992jamo 2 ай бұрын
@@johnhalberg6536 Is it? Tension is a force, so the unit should be a unit of force, not mass.
@johnhalberg6536
@johnhalberg6536 2 ай бұрын
@@1992jamo There are two units named pounds, pounds force and pounds mass. Together, they're very convenient for dealing with gravity. The force of gravity on one kilogram is 9.8 N, but the force of gravity on one pound (mass) is one pound (force). Extremely rare case of metric being the headache and English being easy. However, pounds force is the only unit of force in the English system, while pounds mass has to compete with slugs and stones, so by default pounds tends to mean force. It especially means force when used in the phrase, "how many pounds of tension." Alex was correct in using Newtons for force, but wrong in telling Greg force isn't measured in pounds. If you only use pounds for mass, I'm curious-- what unit did you think should be used for force in the English system?
@1992jamo
@1992jamo 2 ай бұрын
@@johnhalberg6536 That's interesting. I didn't know of pounds force as an actual distinct unit from pounds mass. I had assumed that units like ft-lb and psi were just referencing pounds mass, and the force part was inferred.
@AdamPriceOregon
@AdamPriceOregon Ай бұрын
@@1992jamo In the U.S., pounds are by default force. The customary unit of mass is the slug (1 slug = 14.6 kg) and represents the mass that would accelerate at 1 ft/s^2 if pushed with a pound of force. In practice, slug is very rarely used, in favor of the lb-mass, as @johnhalberg6536 described

Definitely one of the best series. Steve Pemberton’s surrealism, John’s quiet wit and sharp mind (plus his devotion to Queen). @@ObscureReference9 so you decided that you speak for "most" and your opinion is theirs? Is there a poll or study or is it just based on your arrogance? For a start, it's pretty clear that you need both kinds of contestants. All John's or all Nicks would be very boring. Beside all that, Nick was likable, but rarely funny. John had FAR more laughs in the Studio from audience, Greg and the others, which proves you just wrong (laughing=enjoyment). Sophie was by far the funnier of the two low scoring people. She had this chaotic and creative energy in tasks, while Nick was just ...bad at them. Laughing AT Nick but WITH Sophie. And occasionally about John.

A mechanical clock like that depends on the tension of either a spring or in that case weights, which is slowly released by the mechanjcs of the clock at an even rate to tick down the hours, minutes, and seconds. And grandfather clocks like that often go a week without winding. I'd say that would be a lot of tension.

"Each task has a 1% chance of being the real task." was a lie as the location of the real task was known and all the other "tasks" were specifically NOT the real task and placed in the 99 locations reserved for NOT the real task and thus had 0% chance of being the real task. The task placed in the location specifically designated for the real task was the only task that could possibly be the real task and it had a 100% chance of being the real task.

lol I never thought fans would actually be upset over who scores what or who wins taskmaster. It’s a comedy show first, the scoring isn’t really all that important in the grand scheme of why it’s so popular.

Would love to see a series/ new year's treat pitting the most shamelessly competitive contestants against each other - Dara, Ed Gamble, Ian Sterling, Ivo Graham, John Robins and Rhod Gilbert

Seeing Rhod's Chaos, Ed's personality and John's brightness on a team for a task. Alongside Dara and Ian's incredible personalities being on a team would be great, I remember liking Ivo but don't remember him too much, I'm sure he'd fit in perfectly though. That would be a perfect little competition for a mini series.

Taskmaster is more fun when funny people take the game seriously. Many contestants that just go out of their way to be funny and silly just makes you cringe.
