I am an American. To me, no more than maybe a fifth of the British panel TV jokes are first-order funny. The rest are funny more because of how NOT funny they are, how cringey they are, how funny the comedians themselves think they personally are, how funny the audience thinks the jokes are, how self-loathing the comedians are, or some combination of the above. That’s enough to keep me returning and enjoying the shows. Just surrender to the lack of funny and be entertained on a higher order.
