🎶That ⬆️ is singularly because of this man. When I DJ'ed in the 80s his band 'torch song' came on WLIR in Long Island, which was the only radio station really breaking all that crazy stuff from England. The precise kind of things I wanted to spin and involve the public in. Not just disco or plain dance music or R&B that had gotten very stale. Meanwhile Madonna may have been familiar with their little hit song on the alternative radio "don't look now" at that time being in New York. I want to say around 1984. The little keyboard, tricks and crazy basics. Perhaps even drumming on the strings gave this song and edge. So of course I had to dig deeper.. I knew about William's relationship to classical music because it was the same in my home growing up. My dad was the best tuba player in the world and classical music is quite richly appreciated these later years that I have always spent chasing Sound. 🎼Hard to believe how William's work gets overlooked from that period very hard to find on 80s compilations and other things, but I thought he was a step beyond most of his peers and many of the things I have in my collection from that period and I collected damn near all of it..... The import record store was my home away from home.... I still have it all and it's in pristine condition, no scratches no dog ear covers, No warped records and believe me that's hard with those cheesy thin 12 inch singles from England… You have to store those properly or they will warp into an oyster dish. , 📀🎶🎸🎹🔊🪩♠️🎙️💜💿

Unfortunately I read that William had a hard time working with Damon Albarn, He wasn’t pleasant apparently. I only discovered William because of Madonna’s album Ray of Light, not a fan of Madonna much but I enjoyed that album and found all his amazing albums since, absolutely loved “Water from a vine leaf” William’s music is very ethereal

William Orbit who has made prominent music for the last several decades: I would create and imagine symphonies in my mind Newscaster that has never made any music: That's not normal I have never made any music, but I would imagine it is like imagining how you are going to paint something, all the layers, the different sections and how they will work together to create that final vision. Glad to see Mr. Orbit creating his art after taking a breather.

I mostly know his work from his solo projects. “Strange Cargo III” is a masterpiece but his Madonna, more pop contributions don’t work for me. Britain’s Mark Mothersbaugh in my opinion. He worked on the famous All Saints song? Blimey, that makes me nostalgic.

today I listened to 'black coffee' ten times in a row, as loud as I could stand, trying to pick apart the unusually dense arrangement. I spotted all kinds of things in there, even noting that the gated organ part sounded a lot like townsend's lowry part in "won't get fooled again" (a multitrack I briefly had access to, years ago, while visiting the studio that the cocteau twins rented from PT as 'september sound'). but a lot of it eludes me. I'd love to find stems, or a breakdown of the arrangement. the remixes on the same EP are awful. I mean, why bother? you're not going to improve on WO when it comes to this sort of pop. a master, up there with spector & very few others.
