True, both in the lower income bracket are struggling however women generally have more expenses then men. Basic hygiene products such as soap, deodorant. disposable razors, body spray and hair care products geared towards women are more expensive then those gear towards men. Haircuts for women are also more expensive then men because generally there is more work involved. On top of that, biology also plays a role. Women have to pay extra money for feminine products such as tampons or pads, while men do not. Life is more expensive if your a woman.

Women always are stuck, lands in poverty and has to have a stable income, plus feed the kids, plus pay the rent... It s too much. @NothingButAPeanut
@NothingButAPeanut Жыл бұрын
It’s a complex issue and I wouldn’t label people as uneducated on the effects of having children. Sometimes ppl experience dramatic life events that change the course of their life which you can’t predict. And remember that it may seem sensible on a personal choice level, but the macro view is different. There aren’t enough children being born as it is. So, the resolution isn’t for ppl to just stop reproducing. The system is set up to exploit workforce for peanuts. We’re headed for a population collapse by the end of the century. Telling people to be ‘wiser’ about it means you’ll need to work way longer than you think because there will be very few working age people (relatively) to support your retirement. Double edged sword if you will.

Unfortunately our system does not make it financially viable to be in a relationship either. This is why, though I'm not married, have no children of my own, I have my own home, own car and full time job, no women are interested in having a relationship. This is because though they get little benefits as single parents, they would get even less if they got into a relationship. I know plenty of local single mums that as much as they are currently struggling financially, they openly say they will never enter a relationship because of the money they would loose. I know some single mums locally that though they struggle financially, they still get more money's worth in welfare and then other benefits such as housing benefit, council tax discount etc combined than what I get as a wage working full time for £28k per year but then have to pay full everything like mortgage. Working does not pay enough in many cases and so people are trapped into a life of benefits to start with. An example of this is £28k per year in my northern town is a high wage but after all my bills I can't afford many luxuries and yet the woman who lives next door to myself that doesn't work has at least two foreign holidays per year and a top of the range BMW.

And joining the wait list for a council property would be futile so I pay my £1,250 rent every month and budget whatever money is left for the remainder of the month. If my son doesn't attend nursery, then I can't work. Facts. If I didn't work, then I would be destitute living on Uninversal Credit. So only the rich should be able to have children? Everyone should have the opportunity to have children; to have kids is to be alive, it is very much a right as a living and breathing entity. Don't you think that instead of advising poor people to not have kids, we should be trying to improve living standards such that they can? To dismiss these people as "selfish" for having the desire to raise children of their own is disgusting and you really should try to gain a bit more perspective before casting your judgement on others so harshly. The act of having children is anything but selfish, in my opinion. Part of the reason we're in this situation is people in places of great power who share your warped mindset.

Its a bit bleak to call it sexist. I think the breakdown of the family structure is what women suffer the most from. These women are not in poverty simply BECAUSE they are women its because they are single mothers. Which make up atleast 70% of the economy. 50 years ago, almost every mother was a married woman with support from her husband. Now, the popularity and social expectation of marriage has fallen dramatically low in modern society and its women that suffer from it because they are the ones left to raise the children alone.

My view from the US is that I’m seeing people piling on with blame like it’s some big moral failing to work full time-and with kids! Who are supposedly our future-and not be getting by. Meanwhile, this week, the CEO of Nvidia made $6B+ in one day, on the hopes their chips will power future AI…which will be throwing even more of these folks out of their jobs.

This is not poverty in any way live as I did as a child homeless and hungry . Often my Mother and her 4 children slept in bus shelters and the local graveyard. There was no benefit system like today or food banks to help. All these family's have homes, many cars and in there homes they have what I call luxurious items. Look behind the people been interviewed at there belongings in there homes. They don't live on porridge made with water and plain spaghetti every meal as I did when young. They need to live on reduced yellow item sticker food supermarkets are full of cheap food if you shop late as I do.

@@ashleybosvik3031 I work at my local supermarket. When we need to increase the price of an item by 50p, we actually increase it by £1 on the label and then reduce it by 50p with a yellow sticker. People are soooo happy to grab a bargain they just don't realise what we do.

This is not a sexist issue. It’s affecting everyone. Men can be carers, stay at home parents, have low wage jobs etc. What ridiculous woke nonsense tying this to a real cause- women’s rights - and denigrating it as a result

There appears to be a lot of feckless fathers about, not saying the women don't do a bunk but the majority who go out for a paper and never return are often men !! I do understand we have relationship breakdowns etc and deaths of course, but its always the women who take the majority of the financial pain.

"Why record inflation is harder for women", where do I even start with this. Inflation doesn't just single out one gender. Both the title and all the sources appear to be biased in just trying to prove one's point, you can spin the data however you want but the truth is that it's hard on us all; men and women. "90% of all single parent households are ran by women", that seems an unusually high percentage of mothers that have custody of their children. Could 90% of the men really be that bad whereby the woman has to divorce the man, take the child and try to make ends meet whilst working a 0 hour contract in the middle of a cost of living crisis rather than making it work in the family they started, and being better off all round? Single man or single woman, of course you're going to be paid less and struggling working a 0 hour contract as a nurse supporting 1+ children in the middle of a cost of living crisis with inflation being at a 40 year high.

It doesn't mean 90% of household are single parents. It means 90% of single parents are women.

A majority of which find themselves in such situations when the male partner becomes violent. You can also be told that if you don't leave your partner the government will put in a case to remove your children from you. 🎉

The woman on 12.50 an hour doing 3 12 hour shifts a week earns more than someone doing 40 hours a week on national living wage. If £1800 before tax only covers your basic needs. That's surely living beyond your means.

It depends on how much rent and council tax is in a particular area. Not everyone is able to get help with housing costs. For example, a privately rented flat may cost as much as £1500 per month in some areas. So £1,800 per month income won't go far.
