I agree. In eastern Washington we've seen coordinated/planned arson events. They know when the wind is about to kick up then they start numerous fires at the same time to overwhelm firefighting efforts. That being said people need to use the concept of "defensible space" around their homes and not expect anyone to show up and come save them/put it out. I would like to see a program where people can apply for "defensible space" assistance ie for the elderly and handicapped.

Los Angeles is burning, and it’s not just a natural disaster - it’s a catastrophic failure of leadership. Politicians like Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass have prioritized virtue signaling their luxury beliefs over practical governance, blindly cutting fire department funding by 17.6 M , ignoring long-running water and forest management issues, and then blaming “climate change” as the real culprit. Meanwhile, DEI initiatives have entirely overshadowed actually getting the job done when it comes to hiring key civil servants. This isn’t just about wildfires - it’s about what happens when we elect talkers instead of doers. California’s leaders have repeatedly failed their citizens, leaving them to suffer the consequences. What will it take for voters to finally demand accountability? We will never find justice in a world where criminals make all the rules.. Sign the petition ( It's online) to recall the CORRUPT FOOLS !!! People died because of their incompetence. They ARE liable. Tribunals!

@mattglasgow43833 сағат бұрын
Wildfires are very, very, very destructive. However, I would not be surprised if generally they are not deadly. Usually, wildfires start in sparsely populated areas with dry brush for fuel and spread to populated areas. There is usually enough time to predict where a fire is going and evacuate the residents before the fire spreads over there. The dead ones are usually the ones who chose to stay behind. I hope they all rest in peace and their families find solace, but it is just a reminder everything can easily be lost with a stupid, yet admirable decision.
@JohnDoe-tx8lq3 сағат бұрын

10:13 No we must not just "reduce" emissions, we must stop them, and so stop drilling. And sure emission will grow in poor countries, but their emission per capita is and will stay far lower than the emission of the US or UK or Europe, so putting the blame on them is very cynical. Not to mention many "developing countries" are producing the goods we are consuming, so we should be accountable for the corresponding emissions.
@CalmAbidingx4 сағат бұрын
Even with this short panel, Channel 4 felt the need to include someone like Dr Sivaram, who is an energy executive, albeit a clean energy exec, to "temper" the truth that Peter Kalmus was speaking on (including the noticeable editing of Kalmus' responses...). Advising people that they just need to get used to "adapting" to climate change, and saying something as pointedly idiotic as "The US can't do anything to curb climate change at this point," is so irresponsible and frankly insulting to the people of California living through this disaster. To then pin climate change on developing countries emissions is beyond dishonest -- developed countries per capita greenhouse gas emissions are more than 2x those of developing countries, and over 4x higher than the poorest countries -- this is as of October 2024. What a fucking joke.

Terribly sad scenes. Do they have large fire breaks protecting some of the populated areas? From most aerial shots I've seen it's not clear if there are proper fire breaks. I used to live on a mountainside and we used to get huge fires propelled by strong winds almost every two or three years - but luckily we had a large fire break behind our house that ran all the way along the lower slope of the mountain that manged to stopped the fire jumping 100m and taking out all the houses in our area.

Lots of very narrow canyons in that part of L.A. Not enough space to put fire breaks everywhere. You’re playing whack-a-mole everywhere now.

@donskuse2194 yes - I've seen that before - the key is catching the fire before it creates too many fronts. They need a quick reaction force. It is fascinating to watch them actually put the blame on climate change😂😂 don’t blame the politicians for not being prepared. Blame climate change.😂

How much environmentally harmful chemicals did this fire in LA release into the atmosphere ? Earthquakes can not be prevented. Large scale wildfire devastation CAN BE PREVENTED ! Thousands of acres, a ton of homes burned, it's a major ecological disaster caused by the incompetence of newsom, bass and others ! Are the environmental groups going to be outraged ?

Have you ever thought about investing in an emotional support animal to help with your stage 4 TDS as voting blue no matter who gets you the left which means you getting nothing left.
@lucasfernandez8883 сағат бұрын
A stress ball or emotional support animal can really help with stage 4 TDS. It is a vote blue no matter who state and they control all the levers.

15 years ago in N. Idaho it didn't rain much. It was either snowing or not snowing. Yesterday we had 40 degrees F. January 11th and 40 degrees. What little snow we are getting melts right away.

Voters passed Proposition 1 in California in 2014 that gave the Governor 2.7 billion to build dams and water reservoirs. To date, none have been built. Where'd the money go?

This guy is nuts. This was caused by mismanagement also known as incompetence. DEI was a big part of it too!
@seza17134 сағат бұрын
That's a little naive. Record droughts. Climate change denial as well as poor management. And who uses the slave labour of prisoners to fight fires?! Seriously.
@zackarycarpenter7574 сағат бұрын
Diversity equity and inclusion caused 80-mile per hour winds. DEI led to systemic reductions in infrastructure investment over decades. DEI led to a rainy season followed by a severe drought, creating a tinderbox. DEI made a drone hit a supertanker. DEI assisted the wide distribution of embers. DEI dictates the physics of water pressure. DEI runs the banks and an international conspiracy to overthrow everything white civilization has built! What makes white people naturally better at fighting fires? Do you think that disproportionately putting white people in positions gets you the best? No group of people is statistically better at learning, working, or planning better than any other group. To fill every major role with whites will necessitate dredging the barrel.

It's just propaganda. They need to find the way how to redirect the attention from the government incompetence so yeah, the magic words: climate change. Not the lack of water in the water hydrants. Ridiculous. Don't look for the accurate news on this channel

Regardless of cause, you have to be prepared for whatever disaster is prevalent in your area. If it’s fire, then ensure you have a reliable water source to fight it. Also backburning and clearing forest floors of fuel.

I appreciate the report. With 2 men with doctoral degrees on the climate, I feel that it would be more balanced if you had an opinion from the other side, in addition. I am not disputing anything they said, exactly. But there is a lot to examine and know. I am just wondering what kind of vehicles the two doctors drive. I would assume electric or something that is non-fossil fuel based. Attributing all weather conditions to fossil fuel use just seems imbalanced. Forest fires and wild fires are nothing new, although they are absolutely tragic and we need to work to prevent them. Have a look at some of the fire prevention strategies in Switzerland that are really, really old. Love and gratitude to all the fire fighters from LA, parts of the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Beautiful people working in very difficult conditions. Thanks to so many volunteers helping with food trucks and other types of aid. Amazing human beings! From lady in Canada.

Is this so unexpected with a Governor more interested in 'Trump-Proofing' instead of 'Fire-Proofing.' Newsom and Bass should resign in light of their gross negligence and incompetence.

California needs(imho) much more aggressive management of their urban fringe of wildland around city's for fire control, I know it's nice to be able to not have to go very far to go walking in these picturesque areas just outside the city but you can't have both, picturesque walks and good fire protection in high risk fire zones. They had the same problem in Australia when they stopped people from burning protection perimeters around their properties and then massive fire swept through the regions and burned all the homes down. It doesn't help that properties that are of wooden construction with bituminous shingle roofs are still allowed in high fire risk areas(with perimeter zones) when there's much more fire resistant materials they could be using (like hempcrete which is very fire resistant) for walls and roof tiles. Building constructed with wood with bituminous shingle roofs doesn't take into account 100mph winds landing hot embers from outside the perimeter zones all over your flammable roof. Rip all those that have died, my heart goes out to everyone that has lost their home and thanks to all the teams fighting to stop these fires.
