It's weird, I hadn't really thought much about Sven, if at all, in a decade. Now he's passed it makes me look back and realise that the time period he was the England manager was a large chunk of my 20's when I was younger, enjoyed myself, had no worries. Didn't realise how much attachment I had to those memories (remember the 5-1 vividly in a bar in Magaluf!). Been watching quite a few Sven videos on YT today and he seems like a great great guy. This day will come for all of us, but always hard to imagine being told you have a finite amount of time left on this planet. Glad he could see he was appreciated and loved. A phenomenal career. We always hoped that somehow he'd find to gel all these great players together and find a winning formula in the World Cup or the Euros but alas it never came. I can still remember being devastated when we lost on penalties to Portugal in the World Cup in 2006 especially knowing that it was going to be his last tournament as our manager and even now I can still see a younger me, sitting in front of the TV hoping we'd win with 10 men after Rooney got sent off, Beckham went off with injury I think it was, just trying to will the team to victory despite whatever tactical, mental, physical etc flaws we had at the time, alas not to be. Best wishes Sven to yourself and your family and friends. Thank you for some incredible memories both the good and the bad. As a Swede, I´m truely honored by the reactions from England, Portugal and Italy. I remember the days when Sven managed Sampdoria and Lazio and my god the Italians thought he was some kind of a God. Back home, in Sweden, we thought not much about it really, and 1994 he was the expert commentator on the tele for the World Cup, and his humble calm approach to what happened on the pitch in every game were splendid to listen at. Just a remarkable calm voice and i wished you could hear him speak and understand his Swedish when he actually speak. Its just fantastic. You can listen to his accent from "Värmland" that slowly during all those years abroad just melted into a perfect voice to listen at. His looks during the 80-90ths perhaps is a little Mr.Burns from The Simpsons, but his act is far from anything near any evil. Remember him coaching Juan Sebastian Veron and Manchini and those players only said the best things ever about Svens approach to the players. No screaming about, but in a calm way get the tactics right. Imagine that in south Europe. A cold Swede with a humble approach to the game with no threaths whats so ever. Was unheard of back in the days. I cheered so much for the english nation team back when Sven tried his luck there, but got angry over the media, and everything that happened to him back then. His freeking phone for god sake were wired. How sick is that? Anyways, all the love from you guys taking part of saying nice things to this man of honor. /Deepest love from a crazy football fan in Sweden

Im not English, but i like to see other home nations do well, i always liked Sven, and he said he has a 'year at best'. England have the top talent in the world, but in my opinion, they've always lacked the team togetherness. 'Too many individuals' i often hear. Denmark in 1992 had togetherness. Croatia WC 2018 had togetherness. Italy 2006. Spain 2010. Portugal 2016. Again, im not English but im an outside observer... Sven clearly loves England, I suspect he is gutted that he 'failed' in his own word. He may not make the Euro final... but hopefully he does. If youre going to play for something as a team, with a common cause, play not only for your Country... #PlayForSven. Im sure that would mean the world to him in these difficult times. All the best in Euro 2024.

You are right England always has a team of individual players not a team. The only time post '66 we've had thst was the 5-1 against Germany. All the scorers were from Liverpool FC!
