As an Englishman I’m not sure why people only talk about the England job with Sven.He won the UEFA cup with a Swedish club, league and cup doubles in Portugal and Italy,European Cup runner-up in 1990 and lots of other honours. He was one of the finest coaches in Europe and it would seem a great human being as well.

A real gent and much maligned when he was England manager . The only indicator that counts is what his players think of him - the fans are not too bright on matters like this - and they all obviously have huge respect and liking for the man.

Sven was one of the most important coaches in Portuguese football history. He brought state of the art training methods and football knowledge for the league in the 80's. He was passionate, but always rational and even kind. He is beloved by Benfica supporters and respected by his rivals. Absolutely consensual. A class act. All the best Sven, you fucking legend, you are and will always be celebrated by football fans ❤🇵🇹

It's weird, I hadn't really thought much about Sven, if at all, in a decade. Now he's passed it makes me look back and realise that the time period he was the England manager was a large chunk of my 20's when I was younger, enjoyed myself, had no worries. Didn't realise how much attachment I had to those memories (remember the 5-1 vividly in a bar in Magaluf!). Been watching quite a few Sven videos on YT today and he seems like a great great guy. This day will come for all of us, but always hard to imagine being told you have a finite amount of time left on this planet. Glad he could see he was appreciated and loved. A phenomenal career. Rest in Peace Sven, your pain is over now.

@@chriswhiting1991what about scholes? Hargreaves was a good technical CDM but not as good as Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard, I'd have him on a similar level to Michael Carrick, but Carrick was more durable. The only formation which would have worked was 4-1-2-1-2 but SGE not innovative enough to see it. Having said that a good effort, injuries in 2004 to Rooney was critical, bad refereeing and decisions in 2002 and 2006 cost England against good opposition. Could have knocked out Brazil in 02 but Ronny fluked that free kick...

I know a lot of people throughout the years have always talked about Sven not being at the same level as a Ramsey, Robson, Venables etc but for people my age growing up as an England fan, Sven was the man. We always hoped that somehow he'd find to gel all these great players together and find a winning formula in the World Cup or the Euros but alas it never came. I can still remember being devastated when we lost on penalties to Portugal in the World Cup in 2006 especially knowing that it was going to be his last tournament as our manager and even now I can still see a younger me, sitting in front of the TV hoping we'd win with 10 men after Rooney got sent off, Beckham went off with injury I think it was, just trying to will the team to victory despite whatever tactical, mental, physical etc flaws we had at the time, alas not to be. Best wishes Sven to yourself and your family and friends. Thank you for some incredible memories both the good and the bad. You were the first manager I remember in charge of our national team and still possibly my favourite. All the best. Hopefully they can win the Euros for you this year.

All the best to Sven, he is such a gentleman. My grandma died of cancer at the age of 63 and her diagnosis was very similar to Sven's. She told me that it's such a void feeling, just waiting for the end. I was just a kid, but I'll never forget that chat we had, just months before she went.

Rest in Peace. He seemed like a positive and kind man until the end. I watched the documentary and it was so nice that he spent so much time with his children and family before he passed.

I always knew that Sven was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. And to watch him talk and reflect on his time, especially with England, shows how much he cares for us too. It was a tearful experience watching the players pay their respects to him, and it clearly meant so much much to him. Every fibre of me despises cancer, especially how it takes wonderful people far too young from this world. I pray that all terminal cancer sufferers find the love and support they need, and the strength to face their final days peacefully. 🙏🏻

As a Swede, I´m truely honored by the reactions from England, Portugal and Italy. I remember the days when Sven managed Sampdoria and Lazio and my god the Italians thought he was some kind of a God. Back home, in Sweden, we thought not much about it really, and 1994 he was the expert commentator on the tele for the World Cup, and his humble calm approach to what happened on the pitch in every game were splendid to listen at. Just a remarkable calm voice and i wished you could hear him speak and understand his Swedish when he actually speak. Its just fantastic. You can listen to his accent from "Värmland" that slowly during all those years abroad just melted into a perfect voice to listen at. His looks during the 80-90ths perhaps is a little Mr.Burns from The Simpsons, but his act is far from anything near any evil. Remember him coaching Juan Sebastian Veron and Manchini and those players only said the best things ever about Svens approach to the players. No screaming about, but in a calm way get the tactics right. Imagine that in south Europe. A cold Swede with a humble approach to the game with no threaths whats so ever. Was unheard of back in the days. I cheered so much for the english nation team back when Sven tried his luck there, but got angry over the media, and everything that happened to him back then. His freeking phone for god sake were wired. How sick is that? Anyways, all the love from you guys taking part of saying nice things to this man of honor. /Deepest love from a crazy football fan in Sweden

Loved Svens time at England, even though we didn't win anything and we had a strong team the so called "golden generation", but look at some of the other teams then. France, Brazil, Italy, all incredible. Portugal, Spain and Germany were no slouches then either. We had some moments that will be remembered forever, the 5-1, Beckhams free kick against Greece. Thank you Sven, I hope you live as long and healthily as possible.

We had some memorable good times with Sven and some obvious heartbreaks, it was never an easy job in those times with the rival players in the squad. It's beautiful to see our country, Ex players, Klopp, the fans, supporting and celebrating his career during his final times.

Watching Sven’s England as a kid was incredible. Munich 2001. Beating Argentina at the World Cup in 2002. Rooney at Euro 2004. And while we didn’t achieve perhaps what we could have done, Sven never once lost his temper or criticised his players. Hence why they like him so much.

Im not English, but i like to see other home nations do well, i always liked Sven, and he said he has a 'year at best'. England have the top talent in the world, but in my opinion, they've always lacked the team togetherness. 'Too many individuals' i often hear. Denmark in 1992 had togetherness. Croatia WC 2018 had togetherness. Italy 2006. Spain 2010. Portugal 2016. Again, im not English but im an outside observer... Sven clearly loves England, I suspect he is gutted that he 'failed' in his own word. He may not make the Euro final... but hopefully he does. If youre going to play for something as a team, with a common cause, play not only for your Country... #PlayForSven. Im sure that would mean the world to him in these difficult times. All the best in Euro 2024.

You are right England always has a team of individual players not a team. The only time post '66 we've had thst was the 5-1 against Germany. All the scorers were from Liverpool FC!
