Hello! 12 year Green Beret here! As much as I love Will, Ian, Jeff and Kaj - they didn’t lose because of their age. You can blame unit background a little bit. We typically move faster than SEAL Teams so the pace/tempo will be a bit off, but this USSF team still had the ability to win this competition and honestly should’ve won. They simply got too reckless and I feel didn’t treat this op seriously. Had they just fallen back to their core CQC fundamentals and managed to flow with each other, they would’ve won. Nothing but respect to HID. They took this op seriously and deserved to win. We have a saying in the US military - “slow is smooth, smooth is fast” that’s exactly what HID was this op and it got them to the Final. 안녕하세요! 12년차 그린베레가 왔습니다! 내가 Will, Ian, Jeff, Kaj를 사랑하는 만큼 그들은 나이 때문에 지지 않았습니다. 유닛 배경을 조금 비난할 수도 있습니다. 우리는 일반적으로 SEAL 팀보다 빠르게 움직이기 때문에 속도/템포가 약간 어긋나겠지만, 이 USSF 팀은 여전히 ​​이 대회에서 승리할 수 있는 능력을 갖고 있었고 솔직히 말해서 승리했어야 했습니다. 그들은 너무 무모했고 나는 이 작전을 진지하게 다루지 않았다고 생각합니다. 그들이 핵심 CQC 기본 원칙으로 돌아가서 서로 흐름을 이어갔다면 그들은 승리했을 것입니다. As for having younger US SOF operators on the show.. that’s gonna be pretty hard since most of us stay active duty well into our late 30s and 40s. I was considered young when I left the army and I’m 35 years old lol 😅 Ian and Jeff are a year older than me so I’m guessing they got out “early” like me, but most SOF guys are like Will - active duty for 20+ years then get out as old men lol 쇼에 젊은 미국 SOF 대원들을 출연시키는 것에 관해서는.. 우리 대부분이 30대 후반과 40대까지 현역으로 근무하기 때문에 그것은 꽤 어려울 것입니다. 군대 갔을 때 어리다고 생각됐고 35살이에요 ㅋㅋㅋ 😅 Ian과 Jeff는 나보다 한 살 더 많아서 나처럼 '일찍' 퇴역한 것 같지만 대부분의 SOF 남자들은 Will과 비슷해요 - 활동적 20년 이상 복무하고 늙은이로 나가세요 ㅋㅋㅋ

12 year Green Beret here back for another great episode! Firstly, just wanna send some love to USSF. The SEALs Kaj, Ian and Jeff showed nothing but class throughout the show and my fellow long tabber Will did the Legion proud. Keep your heads held high, gentlemen! Also huge congrats to HID for moving onto the Final! Alright so some thoughts on the first semi-final! - With the type of training that SEALs/Green Berets go through and the decades of real world combat experience this team collectively has, USSF should've won this match and honestly the whole competition.. When we train, we literally have every curveball imaginable thrown at us. It's almost always a worst case scenario because one of our motto is "Hope for the best, but train for the worst." I feel like USSF didn't take this seriously. They may say otherwise, but deep down, I'm sure they felt they could've and should've been more disciplined. They were reckless throughout this op, especially towards the end when they were running and gunning like Rambo. Decades of training out the window.. They admitted themselves that they failed to stick to the plan and got a little too excited. As I said last week, they went into a game show mindset. It was basically laser tag out there with no consequences other than broken pride if they lose. Yes, they're at a disadvantage being the oldest operators on the show, coming from different SOF backgrounds, etc. They still had the foundation to win this whole competition though. Just had to fall back to their core CQC training while flowing with each other and matching each others' pace/tempo. Instead we saw 4 Rambos running around playing laser tag. - HID on the other hand never saw the op as some run and gun game of laser tag. In their minds it was very much a real world mission, which is why we saw them win. Throughout my years in the military there's a saying that I've heard since I was a young Private - "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast." HID represented that saying 100%. They really impressed me with this one! I had a feeling they'd be well trained in CQC as they always made me think of a CIA tactical team (similar to SWAT) and it was really cool to see a team of HID operators move as one. I admittedly was very disappointed in their performance during that first maritime op. They definitely didn't look good on water and likely would've lost had their opponent that round not been so weak, but man you put these guys on land and they're one lethal team! The young point man, I think Dong Kyu's his name was especially impressive. Coming from an operator who's had to be point man on my fair share of ops, he was outstanding. Quick to react, great angles of approach and solid communication with his team. One thing I really appreciated too was something that Minho, I believe the HID leader said. When he heard that his team had taken 5 hits he was understandably upset, but it was this line that really reinforced the fact that this wasn't some game to HID. He said "Five bullet wounds mean that you're practically unable to continue." He saw the op as a failure because of the casualties taken. That's exactly what all active operators think. One casualty is one too many, but the fact that was on his mind, even on a game show made me think "ok this guy's always switched on" I respect that. It makes me think maybe he's seen real world combat. 15 years in the Army, 12 as a Green Beret. I've been in countless firefights. You never forget getting hit or seeing one of your brothers get hit. Sometimes it's quick, sometimes it seems to last forever, but it's forever burned into your memory. The smell in the air, how slippery the blood is, I swear no one ever tells you how slippery it is.. hell, you can almost taste the iron in your mouth. Alright, that got a bit dark! My bad lol.. Anyway, long story short - HID was awesome and so long as the final op doesn't have a water element, I think they've got what it takes to win. - I may have come off as a bit critical of USSF because of how they handled this last op, but honestly I'm so proud of everything they've done. They had fun, they didn't get hurt, they got to witness some ROK SOF operators firsthand and they represented the US SOF community on the international stage. Will, Kaj, Ian and Jeff - you did us all proud, brothers! Hope you got some much deserved rest after this one!

I would argue that one of the reasons for the gap in levels of aggression (or cautiousness) between the US and Korean teams may come from the US military's reliance and availability of top quality body armor compared to the military of S. Korea. The "violence of action" that Will often refers to is the result of the cost benefit analysis in that taking down the enemy more quickly will ultimately lower the chances of even greater damage to the overall unit while accepting risk and injury on an individual level.
