I liked it a lot but here's the thing it made me so angry a burning fiery rage when snoke got killed and Kylo straight up said "your nothing you come from nothing" while I've discussed with tons of people who rey is and who she's related to and also who snoke was!

I do agree that was one of the best scenes in the movie. He was definitely surprised to see R2D2 there and he asks him why he should do this and I think Artoo's answer was perfect.....and I think that scene is really what inspired him to do what he did at the end.

I could never see him as young Luke. The Luke in Rian's version is so fundamentally different as a character that they're not even the same person. Mark Hamill himself even thinks this way. That's really what ruined the movie for me - it wanted to completely forget about all the growth that took place for the characters in the originals.

I prefer the Rey/Kylo fight with the Praetorian Guards. For one brief moment, there was nothing about deeper messages, or the Force, or convoluted plans, just lightsabers galore. The lightspeed jump I just don't get. It invalidates the Rebel fleet being trapped around Endor. If all they had to do was turn a ship into a light speed bullet, why don't they do that all the time?

I wrote this somewhere else, but i wanted share it here too. After the movie ended, i was... i don't know. Confused, i think. And my uncle, asked me how i felt, and i said "I don't know". Then when he was drinving me home, he laughed and said that, that's exactly how he and his father felt after watching Empire Strikes Back when it came out and i felt amazing. Because even though i don't love this movies, i feel like with time, the people who didn't go through the hype, the wait, the questions, the theories and the build up, are going to either hate or completely admire and love this movie, like we do now with Empire. Maybe that's just wishful thinking. I hope i'm right. i like this movie more, the more i think about it.

I didn't mind the Finn and Rose thing at all. I know some saw a "romance" there, but I didn't. At least, certainly not on Finn's part as he still has eyes for Rey. I do see hints of a Poe/Rey thing forming. However, I doubt that will go that way because since Rian Johnson so definitively subverted every expectation and fan theory people had Abrams is free to keep it up with IX. Trust me, when we finally get a preview for IX about a year out from release people will start to come back around. Just like always. I also didn't mind Leia using the Force to get herself back on the ship. It was a beautiful moment to me, especially in light of Carrie's passing and that she got the chance to do a scene like that was a bit emotional for me.

I liked that this movie drove home a point already made by both the prequels and the OT--being strong with the force doesn't make you a deity. Emperor Palpatine in OT (before being expanded upon in PT) was a supposed evil super power, only to be chucked down a hole. Yoda set up as super wise in OT and an incredibly powerful Jedi was shown in PT gets blindsided along with all the other Jedi. In this film Luke is strong, but shows that he has moment's of weakness that greatly affect those around him. And Snoke is another big bad that is so sure he's the big bad that he can't feel his apprentice setting up his demise (again just like Vader/Palpy.) Rey is clearly strong with the Force, but it doesn't make her infallible either as she keeps believing Kylo is coming back.
@marche800
@marche800 6 жыл бұрын
A B Exactly just because you're strong in the force doesn't mean you aren't a person with flaws and internal conflicts. I deeply appreciate the fact that this film is willing to address that. Everyone and everything is connected to the force, so there isn't all that much that makes a Jedi or Sith or What have you that different to any other person other than their orders philosophies and ideals. It's like how the Pope is no less of a human being than you. It only seems that way because he's placed in a position of holiness and power. The Jedi are the same way.

Marc Schoen Not really. Jesus taught pacifism and forgiveness and of the rules and nature of his father (God) but was often ridiculed by the religious order and was eventually executed to appeased them, dying a martyr bearing the sins of the people as a means to grant them the chance to be forgiven. The avatar is a being who's job is to use their incredible powers to fight to maintain balance, who was respected and feared the world over. Those are very different roles.

Very true! I also feel like it was finally breaking that old Star Wars theme of "kill the evildoer/destroy the evil thing, and the good guys will win". It's showing us that destroying an evil doesn't make you a hero. And even after the Big Bad is destroyed, there will always be someone else to rise up and become just as bad, if not worse. (That was my interpretation, anyway.)

Boba Fett: Forgets he is a highly effective bounty Hunter and gets accidentally bumped into a sarlac pit like a bitch. Phasma: Fights a treacherous storm trooper amongst flaming hanger ruins, suppresses a rebel that is firing on her by drawing her sidearm and returning fire, takes a huge blow to the side of the face before falling into a flaming pit. Seems like a fair comparison

From what I've read, Phasma was originally never intended to be in the final cut of the new trilogy but they liked her design so much that they left her in. As a result she gets very little to do. Doesn't explain why she's still useless in this one.

My gut feeling is that we essentially have the same cut we would have gotten if Carrie Fisher was still with us, both to avoid having to do major reshoots and to keep as much of her final performance as humanly possible. It seems clear to me that an idea for this trilogy was that each of the three OT heroes would serve as mentor to Rey and challenge to Ben and when they were planning it the order made sense. You do Han first because Ford would only come back if he got to do a death scene and Ford is the oldest. Luke would be second due to the set up of TFA, and then the final installment would have Leia in the featured role. Which tragically means that even if Episode IX is exceptional, we'll always be left wondering what could have been.
@mattiecastillo2683

That doesn't fit with the timeline. Principal photography rapped in July of 2016, months before she died and there were no major reshoots. It was to get her out of the film for a while, but the production history suggests that was it something that was planned out long before her death. If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it would be part of her being Rey's primary mentor for episode IX. Possibly as someone who was on the side of the light, but had found her own way in the force.

I thought the exact same thing, while the scene was silly, we finally got to see leia tapping into the force and so if carrie were still alive, we would have gotten an episode IX with leia leading the last remaining bit of the rebellion, and rey as the last jedi. I feel like they should have done mayor reshoots you know, because by not altering episode VIII, they basicaly screwed themselves over without a leia

Where did I say I liked the Last Jedi in my original comment? In his review for Man of Steal Doug talked about why he didn't like the film and he brought AngryJoe in to talk about the good things about it. Given that Doug seemed to like the TLJ and Joe hated it I thought it would be interesting to see them do another review about a movie they didn't share the same opinion of. Personally I didn't like the TLJ, it and TPM are tied for worst star wars movies for me.

HalfLife(Ger) This! I felt really uncertain in many instances and even when I guessed what the result was going to be in this or that case, I was often surprised by how they got there. For example, Finn probably wasn't going to die (that would be rushed and quite gruesome), but how he would avoid it, I couldn't guess. And the movie is *so* beautiful visually!

Eugene Lau Yeah.... Thinking back on it... That was kind of the worst part of the movie. It wasn't explicitly bad imo it just felt a little bit like the Wrathtaur scene from The Force Awakens but longer. A part of me feels like since Carrie Fischer died they cut some of their footage from this movie to use it in Episode 9 and then filled the empty space with the casino planet scene.

His characterization was beautiful! He's a lost kid that was raised by a constantly working mother, an absentee father, and an uncle that (to him) tried to merc him, surrounded by people that saw him for his power and pedigree. He went to Snoke, who attempted to beat any humanity out of him and use him for his power. I'm 100% sure if there was a better force user than Kylo, he'd be a smear on the floor of the throne room. He can't precisely use the rage he has in the razor- sharp way of a Sith, but he's too far gone to be a Jedi, and he's chasing the overhyped ghost of his Grandfather to try and find some guidance. He's trying to distract from what must be pretty abject loneliness by hunting for power. Then he finds a nobody on some god forsaken backwater who can sympathise with how lonely and lost he feels, and he attempts to get her by his side, to have something he can connect to on that deep emotional level. When he killed Snoke, he ASKED her to join him. Not demanded, not like Vader to Luke. That "please" at the end, with the very well acted yearning and fear and want, shows just how... soft? he is. And that final literal door closing in his face (SHOULD BE) the end of that olive branch. The last bridge burned. He's stuck as Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader. He can't leave- the First Order would kill him as a traitor, and the Resistance would kill him as a murderer. He's built himself a very sturdy cage.

Bill was cool, Snoke is just another CGi monster. I always knew it, this concept of digital monsters as the big villain is something so fucking stupid. Remember the Hobbit? That was the first sign, that white orc who kills the main dwarf.. It's so bland and forgettable, I don't remember their names, lol They will release extra material like books and comics to tell Snoke backstory, it's all about the money. I honestly don't care, CGi monsters should be instinct from this art. They can be minor characters or something similar, not the major villain/hero of a live action movie, we don't have the tech yet.

I really liked it, but the minute the movie ended i just KNEW a lot of people was gonna hate it. My gf and a couple friends came out as if the had watched a different movie each. Honestly? It´s great, but in a different sense from TFA. This movie is like a piece that doesn´t work quite well separeted from the rest; i feel like the next episode should be years apart from this one, and yet it would have everything this movie needed to achieve perfection. Remember that they are setting up a new trilogy, so it makes sense that they "let old things die" in this one. Hell, Yoda pretty much said it himself, remember that whole line about being time for the jedi to end and "we are what they grow beyond"? He was talking to Luke but also to the OG fans, because we grew up with this people but now is time to let them go (my favorite scene next to Luke pulling that Professor X move at the end, so fucking badass) If you hated it, don´t feel bad or angry at the people who doesn´t. Return of the Jedi was boring as hell the first time i watched it, for years i only remembered the first act, and half of the third. And yet, the OG trilogy is not the same without it; same with the prequels, we all despise most of that piece of shit, but wasn´t it worth to get to the end and see Anakin killing some younglings (and that guy who says he´s The Senate, pretty neat)? Just like Doug said, my biggest fear was that the tried to imitate Empire, bc that would mean that they do no understand the point of a "new" trilogy. Sure there where a lot of things about the movie that where unnecessary, like the whole casino plot, Benicio del Toro and the Mary Poppins scene with Leia. But search your feelings, and wonder: How many years did it take for people to begin to appreciate this movies as the masterpiece they are? Was it right away, or did they had to grow on them?

I just saw the movie. Here's what I think. Overall, it was great! It was totally worth seeing in theaters and I recommend everyone to see it, fan or not a fan. However, It made me want to see more. I wanted to see Luke actually fight. I was excited when he drew his lightsaber (what happened to his green one?). But all we got was him dodging Kylo's attacks and him acting like all Old Ben Kenobi saying, "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine" , that kind of deal. And that's it. I wanted to see a lightsaber duel with Kylo and Rey again. All we got was just a Force tug of war contest. Like everyone, I wanted to know Snoke's origins. Right now, it seems like we won't unless we get "Snoke: A Star Wars Story". People who made theories about Rey pretty much lost the bet the day they saw the movie. About this casino sidequest? It was pointless at the end of it all, but it was still nice to see. It's not the worst sidequest. Leia's "death scene" is pretty much the only time we'll ever see her legitimately use the Force (despite the weird pose). I wonder how they'll finish the trilogy without Carrie. I actually did feel an "Empire Strikes Back" kind of vibe, but it still good. I also felt a "Return of the Jedi" kind of vibe in the mix. Like I said, I still enjoyed it and I'm really excited to see what Episode 9 has in store.

I remember when Kylo said to Rey to forget about the rebels, the first order, the jedi and the sith and to just run away from that I thought like "That sounds really interesting, the way balance would be achieved is by a Jedi and Sith learning from each other." But then Kylo went all "Join me and we both will rule the galaxy together" and though "Or maybe not, shame. But keep going".

SpeedyEric1+ I love star wars too, which is why it hurts to see so many people boycott this movie. I can understand Force Awakens, I can understand the complaints there, with that I can see the problem. With this...I don't. People say its disrespectful, yet honors the characters to the highest degree ESPECIALLY Carrie Fisher who had just passed, she was badass in this film. Luke's final moment was so epic, and his character had improved a ton. (Don't get why people say his character got ruined cause he had little to no personality before....but you know that was to let the audience put themselves in the role. Now that he isn't the focus anymore, he needed this. )

It was about destroying the old ways. Snoke was a Sith wannabe and he realized the the jedi and the sith way are bullshit. Sooo lemme get this str8. We have Luke Sykwalker: A character who went on a suicide mission to try and turn the 2nd most evil person in the galaxy back to the light. Because he saw good in him and he was FAMILY. and in this film its explained that because he saw a hint of evil in his NEPHEW, he has to die? Even coming to that decision for a brief second feels like a betrayal of Lukes character.

**Spoilers** Sat in the theater for a while while the credits were rolling and it dawned on me that I just didn't like the movie. I loved parts of it but so much seemed wasted from the prior movie, not wrapped up, not resolved, just wasted. I felt like the Vice Admiral's refusal to just spell out the plan was a colossal waste of time, caused a needless mutiny, and her hyperspace attack on The Supremacy opens a titanic plot hole (why don't rebel ships do that all the time, why doesn't the empire do it, why doesn't the empire just ram their ship into the hole they're hiding in, why weren't the other ships firing, why did the hyperspace attack destroy the OTHER star destroyers). And at the end of it I don't see why anybody could find the First Order threatening at this point. They failed at literally everything they do. The Empire was intimidating and the First Order in VII was intimidating because they were competent, they made mistakes but they were understandable. The First Order, General Hux, and Kylo Ren are just...stupid. They're stupid, emotional things that lash out in stupid, emotional ways. The Resistance is no better, they made most of their own problems, but they had the benefit of plot armor. Their victories are easy and their sacrifices are minimal (One X-Wing took out ALL of the defenses of that Dreadnought and only flying bombers in a ridiculous close formation almost made them lose). No characters developed and virtually all of them are exactly where they were at the end of the VII. The only development that came was from Poe and Finn, but Poe's development came from a flaw that he didn't display in the first movie and seemed to have been manufactured, and Finn looked like he had overcome his cowardice at the end of VII only to have it spontaneously return at the beginning of VIII. It just seemed lazy to me. I empathize with exactly one character in this movie, the planet, cause I'm just a mountain of salt about the whole thing.
@ChrisPTenders
@ChrisPTenders 6 жыл бұрын
Agh... you're speaking my language man. I don't really think the kamikazi thing is an economically viable strategy, and that's probably why we don't see that happening a lot... war ships are expensive and not exactly expendable, except as a last resort. But so much of what happens in this movie, particularly with the Resistance, could have easily been avoided with some common sense or simple communication. It's not good conflict when it's so contrived. That entire Finn and Rose subplot was contrived... if Vice Admiral whoever had just told Poe her plan, there would be no need for the subplot at the casino. The tracking thing was completely illogical... how could they figure out it was new technology by process of elimination? My first thought was there's a mole... and if THEY HAD JUST ACKNOWLEDGED THAT POSSIBILITY then you solve the first plot hole and avoid a second. The mutiny would actually be called for because they'd know there's a traitor in their midst... and WHO'S THE FIRST PERSON TO COME TO MIND??? Maybe the former Storm Trooper? How interesting would that be? That would play into the "kill the past" thing. Finn would have to overcome his origins, and his character could actually develop. Missed opportunity. Poe was the one character I felt most attached to after the last movie, and reading his backstory made him the character I most looked forward to seeing again - but this hot headed trigger happy twitch mutineer is not the same character I had so much respect and attachment to. More contrived conflict, there's no way the Poe the same pilot Leia trusted to go on a mission to get the map to her brother. Speaking of... why was there even a map if Luke didn't want to be found? The solution for Poe's mutiny isn't a solution for what caused the problem, but instead some last minute "Poe just misunderstood" stuff set up by Leia hand waving the real problem away as "that Poe's a feisty one, eh?" The problem was cause by the VA's inability to communicate or lead, there needed to be a consequence to that, and her death played as a sacrifice wasn't that... it could have been if her remorse for failing as a leader had informed her resolve to make things right... but it's not acknowledged. That's not "challenging" as the sibs put it, it's completely narratively unsatisfactory. It's amazing what could be fixed in this movie with just a few lines of dialogue, added, changed, or removed. Poorly written.

I have been waiting for an excuse to get into this discussion. The economics of space torpedoes! So lets take a bit of Star Wars legends, which is for the moment, questionably cannon. The CR-90 Corellian Corvette, the same one as the beginning of A New Hope, costs 3,500,000 credits, by legends. One of these going to hyperspace should, in all actuality do a very similar amount of damage to a large ship, like an Imperial 1- Class Star Destroyer, costing a whopping 150,000,000 credits, would be eviscerated. Now compare that to price of an T-65 X-Wing Starfighter, costing a fairly cheap 150,000 credits, by legends standard. These fighters, as we know are built with a hyperdrive as well, meaning they could also kamikaze into enemy ships, and would probably do pretty well in handling small ships, but the one that takes the cake for, "This Is Just a Space Torpedo" Would be the GR-75 medium transports, seen in the Empire Strikes Back, costing a tiny 350,000 credits by legends lore. These things are cheap, big, and have a hyperdrive. These things are the pinnacle of space torpedo and would smash most ships into debris. This is why they need to go back to the idea of folds in space, so that you can't hit shit while flying through space, because it shouldn't be possible to travel safely through space, as a tiny piece of space dust should be able to tear through your ship.
@Wilsontheterrible
@Wilsontheterrible 6 жыл бұрын
I started getting a little bit leery about how they were treating hyperspace back in Force Awakens with Han exiting IN ATMOSPHERE, but I can give a little leeway because, you know, Han MF Solo. Then in Rogue One they were able to communicate in Hyperspace. Now apparently they can aim it and hit stuff in real space. Speaking of torpedo's, we know that they're a thing in Star Wars. We know that guided projectiles are a thing in Star Wars...why wasn't that ship getting torpedoed to dust by The Supremacy and it's 3 fully functional Star Destroyers and presumably full TIE and Bomber squadrons? Again, this leads back to my original and largest problem with VII, that it makes The First Order look incredibly stupid. And you cannot be scared of a stupid enemy. Nobody thinks the First Order is going to win because they lack the ability to plan and act on those plans. Vader didn't lose a single fight until the very end. The Empire didn't make any obvious tactical mistakes at all. The First Order, by contrast, and General Hux specifically are a face in search of a rake to step on. Hardly a convincing antagonist.

Honestly, a lot of the fights made no sense, destroying the republic off screen when we could have had one serious show down between Snoke's Fleet and some ships that have never had a chance to be cannon, including three ships that they showed off but didn't let them show their stuff. We really could have had an amazing space battle. I was personally really pissed off when they blew up what looked to be my favorite star wars ship, the mc-30 without it even getting to fire back.

Absolutely agree. In my mind, if Holdo had just spilled the beans about her plan to Poe the whole casino world scene wouldn't have been needed and it could have set the stage for a really good fleet battle. Or they could have escaped and taken a couple of weeks to set up for a really good land battle on the salt world. As it stands...meh. I love the ship designs and it kind of bothers me that we don't get to see them really unload. The Dreadnought in particular looked unbelievable and it's commander seemed like the kind of battle hardened fighter that would make a cool enemy, wasted that too.

I’m one of the people who is sitting in the middle with this movie... a lot that I liked, but definitely some key things that I didn’t like. It’s a mixed bag for me. With that being said, I want to ask you this: What exactly is this “something new” that it did, and why does it make the movie better? Is it because you genuinely think it works better as a story, or is it JUST that you like the “refreshing” feeling of something (anything?) new/different?

Ah cmon - how can this movie be so good to you? I think aside from this intentional fucking with fans expectations and not following up well on the Force awakens this movie is just badly written as well - the movie is too long (imo) and not well paced, the whole chasing atmosphere almost becomes like a snail vs turtle race. And side plots like Finn and Rose going to casino planet were just pretty worthless in the end. Also Poes sideplot was weird, where he constantly argued with his leader who was purposelly holding back information for no reason. And yeah, the leia scene, plus the end with Luke... cmon!

no. sassy Luke aint Luke. there is nothing about the Luke in the orig trig that comes back to this film. he is a pessimist atheistic postmodern ass hole who, while not willing to kill his father who was the second most evil person in existence at the time and massacred a shool of kids. he goes, armed, to his child nephew's room and seriously contemplates murdering him in his sleep, before even confronting him on the topic

He is no longer a bright eyed farm boy, this is a man who has seen and done terrible things, he fought in a war and has watched close friends and family die a man who has had time to reflect on his success and failures, when he saw the darkness in Ben and became scared that he was creating another Vader who when Luke was younger did not know of the terrible things his father did, and in a moment of weakness tried to make sure no one would have to go through what he and his friends did. Luke Skywalker went from a blank slate the audience can step into to live their fantasies into a complex character who has his own fleshed out personality with both strength and flaws just like any other person and not some glorious hero that he hates being

To: seven seveen _________________ He didn't planned on killing Ben, he was armed because as a Jedi he was always armed. He went to Ben to see, through the force, how much darkness was inside his nephew. Once he saw, he ignited the lightsaber in a moment of "pure instinct". It was just for A SECOND, you misunderstood that scene.

I kind of felt like Yoda had a Rafiki type role in this film. Like Rey just left and Luke is sitting there being all broody and confused and he just whacks Luke over the head and said "stop this emo thing...she needs you"
@DerSektenspinner

Yeah, well there was no magic for me since they decided to gave Yoda his fake personality for this, he used for 2 min on Luke to trick him before he went normal for the entirety of the Star Wars franchise - until now, for no reason at all. For no reason at all is, what I would describe most of TLJ plot with. I have no idea how you can defend this movie.

@CeltycSparrow

DerSektenspinner I actually agree with you....Yoda in the original movies was the wizened, noble character...and he was an actual puppet. There was no CGI....in this movie, (if my memory serves me) he was almost TOO shiny and he looked too young compared to the last time we saw him. I mean I know when they did the ghost visuals of Obi Wan and the rest in the originals it was blue, but Yoda in this one almost looked psychedelic to me in this one and his ears were wrong. I mean I just looked up the voice actor who played Yoda....it was Frank Oz who did his voice in Empire and Return of the Jedi. And I know Yoda became a CGI character in the prequel movies (where he was also voiced by Oz) but I know for a fact that they used puppets in the scene in Maz Kanata's bar in the Force Awakens. I think they should have gone back to the Yoda puppet for this scene he had with Luke. This could have been a pivotal scene in the movie for Luke's character....much like his scene with R2D2 when the little droid showed him quite clearly WHY he needed to come back. Instead I feel like they made it....almost disrespectful to both characters. I mean I get what the message was....but it was still almost disrespectful the way they did it.

The casino scene didn't fit because they had a very specific setup (Go to casino, get this hacker guy), but they paid it off by....escaping jail with a different guy? So why did they go to the casino? And why was the hacker character introduced when absolutely none of it mattered? The Rose/Finn story worked when it connected to the other three stories, and anything that isn't in communication with those stories should have been cut.

.....then set him up in episode 9. This movie is two and a half hours long with at least nine major characters, and we're wasting 15 minutes of it to set up some random dude from the next movie!? This is a very good Star Wars film, and I really enjoyed it, but tough love is a necessity: Screenwriting 101 says we don't bloat an already enormous story with people and places that are unnecessary to telling that story.

Not just the casino scene. Their entire plot didn't matter if you think about it. It begins with the rebels running away. Then comes Poe's stunt, which did nothing, cause the rebels kept getting chased. Next is Finn and Rose's mission which got them eventually on Snoke's ship where they failed to accomplish anything and got captured. They only escaped because by sheer luck because ramming always works. Poes mutiny, which only happened in the first place because that Vice Admiral refused to tell people her plan, was over in like two minutes. Then on the planet they attempted to stop that laser from firing and they failed again. Finn even failed with his heroic sacrifice. Ultimately Luke and Rey helped them escape. If Poe had just twiddled his thumbs, Rose kept cleaning escape pods and Finn had stayed unconscious the entire movie the plot wouldn't have changed at all. They would have still ended up on that planet, I assume the First Order would have somehow found them and Luke and Rey would have cleaned up after them. Nothing would have changed.

They went with DJ out of desperation. They were out of time and on the run, there was no way to find Maz's dude. The script needed him because Finn and Rose wouldn't have sold out the resistance. This was thematically appropriate because the entire movie, until the climax, is about losing hope. Luke has given up, Rey can't find a guide and is more than ready to fall to the dark side, Leia is unconscious, Poe can't trust his leader, Finn and Rose fail the casino mission, BB-H8 stops their infiltration, DJ betrays them and gets more soldiers killed, they escape but seemingly have nowhere left to run. Meanwhile, Rey believes Ren can turn, but he was actually just doing the "kill my master and take his place" thing that both Dooku and Vader failed to pull off, Rey admits that she has no grand destiny or ancestry: she's "nothing", from "nothing" parents, lived "nowhere". *The* lightsaber that marked her as a successor is broken. Ren's chasing the *handful* of rebels left. Even with the Falcon's help, the junky ships are useless, Finn's attempted heroic sacrifice wouldn't have worked, Rose is critically injured. Hopeless. Everything is hopeless, except for Yoda's lesson to Luke. Then Luke shows up on Crait. He starts sparking the "legend" that inspired a new generation of rebels. He puts Kylo in his place without even being in the same *system* and becomes, like Qui-gon, Ben, Yoda, and Anakin before him, more powerful than a dark Jedi could ever imagine. The legend lives on, inspiring the kids from the casino's stables, one of whom is force sensitive and most likely a future student of Rey's. Luke becomes once again the spark that will light the fire that destroys the imperials. That's why the first 2/3rds bad to be so bleak, so full of failure. Because what good is an ending about hope if it's not built on a hopeless situation?
