I wonder which Outcome deck is better - with Mentor and Lavinia, or with Oko and Mana Gorger.
@adawoo54945 жыл бұрын
Often lsv seems to completely ignore the Tormod's crypts in his sideboard in a lot of matches. In the bazaar/survival matchup there were two instances where it was better than ravenous trap which he did side in on the draw (when going off, and in the third match where he remarked "ravenous trap does nothing here" (in preventing a vengevine)). Why even play the card if you don't even consider it in this matchup, especially when it's arguably better than another card you did play from the board?
@adawoo54945 жыл бұрын
I have two theories: one, lsv has a focus that "crypt is only anti-dredge" and missed it (after all, he never once mentioned it that match); two, lsv hates tormod's crypt but he is somehow being forced to play it and so he is pretending it doesn't exist for practice.

@christopherlundgren17005 жыл бұрын
There was a Vintage archetype of years past that this video reminded me of. Instead of Outcome it used Gush as a draw engine, and instead of cards like Managorger Hydra or Monastery Mentor you had Quirion Dryad. Pretty sure that was the deck that Steven Menendian won the Vintage Championship with. It just strikes me as kind of funny because of how much weaker the Dryad is compared to the cards available now, even though this feels like it has the spirit of that old deck.

This may be a stupid question: is Vintage the most luck heavy competitive format? The powerlevel seems so nuts, that it seems being on the draw/having the right opening hand determines the winner instantly.
@EulogyfortheAngels5 жыл бұрын
Not near as much as it seems. Decisions are vastly important - the perception of card power level itself has the potential to fool one into bad plays. A chain of events (several cards/decisions/interactions in a row) aren't necessarily as obvious to make as 'cast all Power 9 ASAP'. Keep-able hands are also extremely tricky based on what you're up against. Hope that helps.

does LSV explain anywhere why grapeshot is better than vault key?
@TemporallyAnarchaic5 жыл бұрын
My primary guess is that it just doesn't have a good way to find both, not having black and all. Even if it did run Vault/Key, it would find them by going off exactly the same as it does for Grapeshot. At that point, Grapeshot is 1 card slot vs 2, and isn't susceptible to Mental Misstep and removal. The outs for it are just Flusterstorm and Mindbreak Trap, the latter of which happens to be easily Forced/Pyroblasted. It also has some minor utility in being able to kill little things (importantly Thalia and, with one other spell, Collector Ouphe). I don't play Vintage, but these are my guesses from a deckbuilding perspective.
@trysephiroth0075 жыл бұрын
Its an out to Narset or Thalia so you can go off and you can flash it back with snap to win.
@巨型刺蝟5 жыл бұрын
He explained it on stream. Basically he thought pure win cons are much worse than win cons that can help you without comboing. Grapeshot can kill disruption such as Narset or even some threat to buy you some time. vault key are basically dead w/o comboing.

@Kasamori5 жыл бұрын
It doesn't have trample, therefore it's way worse.
@EulogyfortheAngels5 жыл бұрын
Adam Willis. Your response doesn’t actually refute or properly frame what I said. An upgrade is entirely dependent on context - in this case the card works slightly different but *can* and will yield the desired result that caused me to comment in the first place (your opponent dying to a low cost creature that eats spells for cash). I could downgrade ‘strict’ to ‘effective’. Notice how I said ‘seems’. That means everything that comes after is opinion not posited as fact *and* explicitly leaves the door open for response. Given that, your response reeks of ego - might wanna get that checked out.
@milanmach23795 жыл бұрын
Storm Entity is actually a worse Grapeshot rather than a worse Managorger Hydra in terms of play patterns despite their card types. Managorger is a decent t1 play in some matchups, it's a blocker, it allows you to frontload your mana investment which can convert some marginal losses into wins. Grapeshot is better because it doesn't get chumped, Maze'd, killed, it can get Snapcaster'd, and it has utility in killing Thalia, Collector Ouphe, Narset, and any random attacker in case you need to buy yourself a turn. Storm Entity doesn't get Flusterstorm'd but saving that for the Grapeshot is bad play anyways. Edit: Also, 'strict upgrade' could be misinterpreted as 'strictly better' which is a technical term that means two cards being identical except for a point of difference where the upgrade comes into effect. Entity and Hydra have different colors, creature types, and abilities so none is strictly better than the other. Strictly better actually doesn't take context into account which is why Lightning Bolt is strictly better than Shock even though it's worse against Deflecting Palm.

Missed attach with elk second game
@Reach_W5 жыл бұрын
No, the Elk was held back to trade off with a Vengevine. Oppo is the one trying to win through combat damage in that situation. If you attack in that situation and oppo carries out their plan, you traded 4 life for 3 against a beatdown deck. If opponent doesn't, you have to increase Storm count by three somewhere down the line, which isn't hard to do, but you do need to have a life total higher than 0 at that point. There's no situation where attacking with the Elk is correct there.
