That tickles me. I'm laughing my ass off. Chinese domestic chips can't keep up with free-world chips. They never will. We don't want them using our chips in their military tech, which is a completely legitimate concern. China wants to be a superpower, but has a control-freak authoritarian ideology that is just not acceptable to the free-world. If they want peace, then they can stop trying to rule the world and can only join in the benefits of the First World's dominance when they join the free world. Considering that isn't gonna happen short of outside intervention, we all know where this is ultimately going.

I may be wrong, but as a lawyer, I feel like this whole thing is a "negotiation" between the US and China, not a "trade war". I at times support my corporate clients (companies) to negotiate for reduction of offices/premises' rent when the market is down. We would send a letter asking for the reduction, saying that the economy is not good, we are not making enough money to cover the rent, and rental market is also down, ect., and we may need to find another place if you dont reduce the rent. We will ask for a huge reduction, and test the landlord limit. The landlord may push back for a lower reduction or no reduction at all based on their assessment. From the tenant's perspective, it'd be better to ask than no. I think Trump will be doing the same thing, testing China's limit. Finally, they will reach a deal.

China bought rare earth from North part of Myanmar (70% import of China) but now they can't get from Myanmar. US can consider to replace China with Myanmar.
