Until we all grow a 50 percent of what we eat in our backyard, nothing will change.

Non of these people are farmers producing tomatoes, they are just speaking theory. Why can't we get the real farmers

I wish I could be part of these discussion. These two guys have spoken about what happens but not what causes the surge in prices annually? I am a farmer and have a totally different perspective to what is causing the high prices

The issues are 1. Excessive heat in March/April causes flowers to drop 2. The flowers that drop leads to shortage of fruits on 30-45 days after they drop 3. Tomatoes do not like rain. Rain induces blight disease which kills the plants. Once the rains starts, yields drop significantly. 4. Cost of logistics has increased. Aside the bad roads and the govt agencies that "collects" taxes that are not remitted, every community along the express has there own area boys/youths that demand payment from every truck carrying food produce. This ultimately increases landing costs... The we can talk about the other things that have been spoken about by these two gentlemen... What can be done : I am out of space on this chat

Nice one sir. What can be done for the flower Abortion. Also,in my opinion, water loving tomato varieties can be planted during this time.

@@bintulizza7841 as per the abortion. We need to breed heat tolerant varieties suitable to our conditions. This is where govt and research institutions should come in, unfortunately they don't

I do not mock the grown men and women in the studio discussing tomatoes. However the frivolity of the discussion denotes how this Government has spectacularly failed and how depressing living in Nigeria has become!

We have been having 1 issue or another with tomatoes ike every other year now for 10-15years and like everything Nigerian no deep and long term look at the issues. I really dont understand why the south cant grow what we eat particularly the SW where i am. With all the Agric school and profs of Agric we are reliant on North for too much of our food. Holland like 1/3 of SW yet it feeds itself and exports food how come we cant. Lagos for now should forget about the 4th mainland bridge . Deal with this menace of food insecurity first.

1000 naira, just less than a dollar that means we spend more for foods in the U.S. than in Nigeria and there’s no food shortage here! Nigeria is still living large just a bad economy!
