I wish I could've been there, our people's history needs to be preserved, not just Benin, but all the ancient kingdoms of west Africa. I wish there was someone who'd teach us the old ways of our ancestors in America, we need more black unity around the world, because we all descended from the same ancestors, we are brothers even though we survive on two separate continents

I wish many of our Yoruba Obas stay in their palaces more often like the Oba of Benin, the Obis in the East and Emirs in the North and stop attending parties etc that demeaning their status as Obas. U see or Obas shaking hands and pumping fists, dancing and spraying money at parties! Stay your palaces and attend event/functions that are important and necessary. ! I remember the days of Oba Aderemi the Ooni of Ife, Oba Akinbiyi Olubadan of Ibadan etc. U just don't see them anywhere and as such commended respect. Kudos to Oba Aromolaran The Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland and others like him.

@Ovbi-g1g3 жыл бұрын
God forbid...he speak his own language Edo....we speak Edo language.
Benin (aka Dahomey) was very active in hunting down and selling millions of other Africans and even their own people into slavery. These 'kings' could have stopped the practice, but chose not, prefering instead to receive guns, alcohol and trinkets from the Europeans in exchange for human beings. Further, human sacrifices in this area was prevalent. What I have written are historical facts and are not meant to cause insult. Look the same facts up to confirm.
@smartgold71894 жыл бұрын
Why are you white people so stupid? Benin kingdom and Dahomey are two separate kingdoms. It was Dahomey which is now called Benin republic that was referred to as the slave coast. The Benin you see here is the original Benin kingdom it was not the slave coast, Dahomey was the slave coast. Dahomey changed its name to the Republic of Benin in memory of this very Benin of Nigeria. Stop saying nonsense😡

king James II where did you get that oranmiyan banned the ogiso dynasty; my friend if you want to learn about the history of the great Benin Kingdom, ask questions and stop making up things in your head; oranmiyan the son of Ekaladeran known to Yorubas as Oduduwa came to Benin at the request of the Benin elders who came to plead to Ekladeran to return to Benin to take over his father’s throne, Ekaladeran instead sent oranmiyan who came to Igodomigodo but couldn’t stay long because of the vexation of the people, he then returned to ife but before he returned, he had a romance with one of the chiefs daughter who became pregnant for him and bore a son. oranmiyan named Igodomigodo - ile ibinu which was later corrupted to Benin. Oranmiyan that could not stay half a decade in Igodomigodo, talk less of forcing Obaship on the people. Also the meaning of the word Oba in Yoruba is different from the meaning in Benin. So ask questions and stop formulating things in your head.

king James II Ogiamen family was not in charge of Igodomigodo, the ogiamens only assumed the throne in the absence of a male child from the last Ogiso. After The last ogiso past, there was a tussle between the Ogiamen family and other royal families for the throne, the elders who led Ekaladeran(Izoduwa-oduduwa) to exile was supposed to kill him, but they allowed him fled cos they knew he was innocent of the charges against him; same elders were the one who told the people after the passing of the last ogiso that Ekaladeran wasn’t slain, that they allowed him to leave. So they consulted the gods who showed them the way to ife, on getting to ife, Ekaladeran refused to come back cos in Igodomigodo, a king never leaves his people, so he sent Oranmiyan. When Oranmiyan arrived with the elders to Igodomigodo, the Ogiamens already assumed the throne, but was however subdued by the elders to give up the throne to the rightful heir, even tho Oranmiyan was the child of Ekaladeran, so long as he was a blood relative to the last ogiso, that was good enough for us. Please if you want to know more about Benin history, ask questions; stop making up stories.

king James II if truly you are old enough to be my grandfather, you should know better than to lie against any monarch in Africa, if they invite you to the Palace now to repeat what you said here, will you be able to say it? if you are telling the truth, you should not be afraid.
@osasuigiebor44336 жыл бұрын
king James II The powerful people in Ile ife are wise people, I’m sure they ll ask you what you did before I said “your lie ll kill you”. ife is my second home cos my grand father was an ifa priest, you are the one who is wrong here, why lie against the Benin royal family? You should apologize! Just make sure you tell the truth that you lied against Oba Akenzua’s daughter, that’s why I said “your lie ll kill you” cos if you lie against me, be ready to bear the consequences.
