While smoking, hereditary or Alcohol are categorised as risk factors. Smoking & Alcohol & hereditary are risk factors in almost all kind of diseases.

Diabetes is not a hereditary disease rather caused by your lifestyle of eating high sugar diet which includes most if not all of Nigerians foods that are high in carbohydrates. This is what causes insulin resistance for almost a decade before you become pre diabetic before you become diabetic which is a chronic disease. There are genetic predisposition that can make a person more susceptible to diabetes which is usually misconstrued as genetic. My one cents.
