Yes the right call, I watched the video over and over like you, the horse bumped Game On Dude and threw him or her off balance, but I did not know it was Twirling Candy, the crowd was booing because they lost money and did not like fact that a woman won this race for first time, better get used to it, she is a one good jockey boys!

@samsam29 you might want to watch it again. it's all there . as for Joel you don't go between horses when you know darn well there wasn't enough room.unless you bump your way through as he did . he never passed the 6 or the11 he never had enough horse.The correct call was made . I initially thought it was game on dudes fault until I watched it several time. The right call was made.What a ride by Miss Sutherland for keeping G O D and herself up. That could have been a horrible accident.

@lfc63 Chantal's left handed whipping shifted GoD to the outside while Twirling Candy was coming in. GoD should have been disqualified, the contact was too severe to let it pass. As for Joel's ride, are you suggesting that jockeys never tried to get between horses? Because then crowded races would get plenty tough to win.

@lfc63 actually, Joel had plenty of space when he first made the move just prior to the stretch, watch closely and you will see how, once he's committed and the horses are rounding the final curve, the space quickly closes with GoD fading a bit outside and Setsuko coming in a bit.

i was at del mar when twirling candy bolted on the clubhouse turn and interfered with another horse -the stewards ruled no changes. great footage of the drama,sometimes we are kneejerk -to quick to make a judgement. frame by frame gary stevens for 2 hours broke it down and confirmed chantal sutherland take on the race. the boos from fans mean nothing- they make bets and lose most of the time,but always have to blame something else for their loss. it's racing brother-thats the exitement.

A little different take: If everything else was the same, except if: 1) Setsuko was not there, there would have been NO contact: T.C would've simply carried wide 2) T.C. was not there, there would have been NO contact: we would've seen one hell of an unaffected stretch duel between Setsuko and G.O.D 3) G.O.D was not there, there still WOULD HAVE BEEN contact, the point being that G.O.D. was not the ultimate evil, circumstance was

Great to see it as it unfolded. I remember this race as one of the worst decisions I have ever seen on a racetrack. Seems like the fans on hand agree with all the boo birds.

As soon as they come around clockers corner 6 & 11 are side by side. You see the 5 coming up from the rear. He tries to go between horses. He initially knocks into the 6 and the 11 is in stride she is using the left handed whip . So when the 5 comes off the 6 she is whipping left handed and the 11 is off balance from the 5 who started the whole enchilada. Joel should have never tired to go between horses. The stewards were right. The 5 would have never made the 1 1/4. Do your homework Brad Free.

I had a $20 win ticket on Setsuko. The one to blame is Game on Dude if you listen to BOB talk to Brad Free he didn't want to answer the question of what he talked to the stewards. Twirling Candy was in 3rd coming up the middle and can they say he was out horse. If races were one by the stewards They would have stoped Tiznow in his second Breeders Cup win because he was out of horse and then came back to win. Worst call ever.

And I have reviewed the race plenty already, same as hundreds of people who you might have noticed have all different views and opinions on the same video. What I saw was Chantal left-hand whipping GoD, making him drift to the outside while TC was rebounding from bumping into Setsuko, and the collision.

@ghostzapper2006 Ghostzapper, you are absolutely correct over the entire incident. If any horse should have been dq'd it was Setsuko. Setsuko barely came in and brushed TC who in turn came in a bit worse into GOD and threw Game on Dude off balance badly. Had Twirling Candy been more patient and waited for deep stretch, probably would have won. But of course that was a different race altogether. Anyway good call on your part here Ghostzapper.

one of the best races ive seen in a long time. it was a questionable call. either way they called it, the twirling candy bettors were gonna be mad no matter what. good win for chantal. to be quite honest with ya. i know people are gonna say im crazy, wasnt it so obvious twirling candy was gonna lose this race. too many good horses in this field. at least 5 or 6 horses coulda won but personally i thought aggie engineer would win but man i was wrong. ill just stick to golden gate and charles town

the pan shot cannot be the determining factor - the head on shot is the only way to make a factual judgement. use the tractor grooves in the track as a guide-go frame by frame- stop the tape at a frame by frame intervals- sure chantal goes to the left handed whip, but her horse does'nt come out- twirling candy comes over and brushes chantal's horse in the rear causing the horse to get out of whack, and then her horse comse in -but the initial bumping incident was not on her. the zapruder f

@medomoreno you pretty much got it right-setsuko got the worst of it-and to only lose by a nose. most of the boos came from morons who just react from a superficial look. chantal's horse got bumped in the hindquarters slightly, but it caused game on dude to get out of whack and knock into twirling candy which bumped into setsuko. chantal described it to perfection. people just react from a first glance never taking the time to go frame by frame to get it right.

@ghostzapper2006 WOW - UNBELIEVABLE. Setsuko gets ABSOLUTELY MAULED by Twirling Candy at the head of the stretch and you say Setsuko (er, rather, Setsuka) initiated it? WHO needs to take off the goggles??? Setsuko's response to Twirling Candy's bump is extremely noticeable. I've watched the replay for the 3rd day in a row & I finally noticed that Game On Dude veered out more than I originally thought, but the blame lays SQUARELY on Twirling Candy, PERIOD. Setsuko was an innocent bystander.

@medomoreno when first seeing the replay or the actual race itself in real time- it appears that chantal's horse comes out and causes the bumping pinball of horses, aha but,- once you get past the first reaction and the boos of angry losers, you take in what chantal has to say- she was right there!!!-then you take into account what the other jocks have to say-then you go frame by frame -slow the video down-it will either confirm or deny the claims of each vested interest.

First of all to say that Twirling Candy mauled Setsuko is incorrect medomoreno. You need you eyes examined and hopefully soon. Game on Dude was the horse who cause the problem because the weak Chantal Sutherland. She sucks has no strength at all. Setsuko should have been put up , but not because Twirling Candy cause of Game on Dude. Bob Baffert is a total buffoon.
