The hand gestures are necessary. They are used to mimic the sound of a trumpet or trombone being played with a plugger mute.

By the way: Harry Fromermann, who made the arrangement, was founder and leader of the "mother of all boy groups", the famous Comedian Harmonists You can listen to it here: w3w.kzbin.info/www/bejne/moCkoWaZfp1gac0

So let me get this straight- Chanticleer not only sings phenomenal choral, pop, Christmas, and foreign music- they can also imitate a wind ensemble, and crack the crowd up better than most comedians. Okay.

..... I am SO SORRY, I know this isn't 'lady-like', at my age of 57yr.s..... BUT.... TODAY was the first time I ever saw this, and it was just so F##KIN' AWESOME!!! that I am CONVINCED I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER see anything to top it!!!!!!! I was raised on A-L-L cultures and types of music and performances....... But THIS ONE had me LITERALLY HYPNOTIZED in the BEST WAY POSSIBLE. I wasn't even AWARE of my CONSTANT PAIN that I live with from a disease of my spine, incurable, and now has me in a wheelchair forever. GOD BLESS EVERY ONE THESE MEN, He already has in their Wonderous voices, And KEEP THEM IN EVERY WAY!! ...... What a 'Gift' I received today!!! ........... Peace! To All, ... Mesha

Although I'm not an expert (I don't have a degree) yet, I do sing countertenor here at college. It is definitely normal when going to the high soprano f-g-a range to start having difficulty enunciating consonants. Heck, it's hard getting any other vowel other than "Ahhh" sound without straining. And that's the key thing you should focus on if you use that higher register. Don't strain, use proper support and modify your vowel and consonants accordingly.

I'm unsure if this will be seen, but although I am not a countertenor, I have a very powerful "countertenor-like" falsetto range of voice (or so I have been told) and I'm curious if I could ask any of your countertenors... I have a lower falsetto area and then a much higher range of voice (around high C and such.) I want to be able to use it, but I cannot produce words for some reason in that part of my voice. Consonants kill it. Any advice would be wondrous. :)

So much lulz! Are hand gestures necessary to produce the sound, or are they mostly for comic effect?

Far too slow; compared to the "Comedians Harmonits...What a difference! Too sophisticated... Listen to the Duke Ellington's version or even to the Kings Singers's version. When you have listened to these other versions, difficult to like this one.
