I’d suggest using a cage exclusively for vet visits, and the backpack for outdoor activities. He’ll hate the little cage but he’ll at least know the backpack is only for fun.

I've been retraining my 1 y/o cockatiel to enjoy her carrier (it is the same model as yours). I'm currently in the process of training her to try scary things like the carrier, towels, baths, etc. Every time she steps on or in the carrier, I use a clicker and reward her with a treat. It seems to do wonders! I'm not sure if it would work for Ham, but when I saw you sneak attack him, it made me think of me and my bird. 🤣 You two are the best!

You are not a bad bird mama. We must, on occasion, do things that they might not like but are for their own good or safety. It is a bit strange that Ham doesn't mind being on or around the backpack, but hates going in it. I remember my little girl wouldn't go anywhere near her original cage and we ended up giving it away because it scared her so much.

Today, l realized l need to learn some better comp possibilities, ofaking connections with my friends, among my friends and that l need guidance with this. I once had a friend who had a dove, just like you. It was a very nice dove and my friend had a bird box in one of her rooms for it. It did make eggs. I did not know of my friend for quite some time. I would have liked to make you two acquainted, on such theme as the graceful doves and how to care for them. I hope you will find that Ham is your pet and doves live freely.

Awww Ham is just too sweet! 🥰 I just love seeing you and Ham, it always brings a happy smile for the day. (except when Ham is feeling under the weather and needs that naughty vet that puts things in his behind) that's a sad time then. Poor Ham, I get it though, it's really hard for us "human birds" to understand how it feels. lol My african grey, Bella, 'hates' the carrier, she is so afraid of it. I have tried keeping it in the same room with her (I thought maybe she'd just get used to it, if I kept it in view, it hasn't worked). I've only ever used it one time, it was her first trip, back to the Avian store where I purchased her as a hatchling. She went for her first nail trim. She should have felt comfy there, they loved her, the owner was her first mama! They knew what they were doing and did a wonderful, and trustworthy job. It actually caused her to regurgitate her breakfast in the carrier on our short drive home, so perhaps she remembers that experience as a bad (She doesn't regurgitate normally as an african grey, I guess this species isn't one that normally does this) Maybe it was my fault though, that I offered her breakfast before the trip and she became car sick, but whichever the reason, she really hates that carrier. Now when we have to make a yearly well vet trip, we have to take her in her small cage, which Is rather inconvenient for us to carry around. But then, I suppose many of us try to keep our feathered family happy and feeling that we love them always. ❤

I have the same with mine, the cage I use for the vet he absolutely bolts when I carry it, but if I leave it alone he is fine but also does not go into it.

Ham will get used to it and love it again might take a little time after the vets as the vets can be traumatic but don't worry Bridget the carrier is his escape to the outside world 🐦❤

There’s a really cool backpack I bought on Amazon that has a light and a fan to keep a dog or cat cool that I think you’d like and Ham. It’s more solid in the front with a huge window. It could also fit more toys and perches so he can really turn around a lot in there. Poor Hammy! Hopefully he will be ok in the backpack later so he won’t be plotting to pee on your pillow when you’re in the shower.

I love hamlet. He’s a big talker, I love the conversations you have. Even in the car, his laughs (that’s new to me) and the whistle 😂, but mostly the cute soft noises he makes. I love the subtitles you add as he express through his body language. How. Does he have that much character? Also reeeaaaaallly random and stupid question. Do you train birds to control their poop so they don’t poop around the house.. It’s just I see him free around the house and that question comes to mind. He held that poop on that car journey, waited until he got home 😂😂😂
