Never played this game, but GODDAMN was its soundtrack phenomenal. It's just so.... 40k. It sounds like it's actually from the setting.

I did. It was glorious! I named every one of my Marines by myself, watched them ascending in rank and skill, earning decorations and laurels. It was a pain to see some of them die by the hands of some filthy heretics. Losses were inevitable and carried over in the campaign, so you felt the loss of good men gravely. :D

You can get this game on GOG now and it runs fine on my Win7 32-bit. Though it seemed to lag rather horribly during combat when ti came to moving the camera and mouse oddly enough. ... And when I fired a Heavy Flamer at the Cultists near my own Marines X3

I played the demo of the game when I was a kid and THIS stayed in my mind for years until I finally found it here on YT. Glorious soundtrack, worth the ears of the Man-Emperor.

Same for me, word for word. The demo came on a disc when I bought a PC magazine in -99 and Chaos Gate was one of the demos on it. It was my very first introduction to wh40k and I was blown away. Playing as Ultramarines on some jungle planet with chaos marines and this song.... this frikkin SONG!

I remember the first time I listened to this, I was playing the demo of Chaos Gate, back to 1998-1999, it fitted soo much with the sound of shooting bolters, the medieval-like soldiers that later in my years I discovered to be Space Marines, the cultists exploding in a rain of green blisters. And yet my team of 5 Space Marines was surrounded and slaughtered, my sergeant stuck in a duel with a chaos berserker, was reached by the traitors and cleaved to death by their champion. The echoing of this song in the background accompanied perfectly with the horrible spectacle.

Interesting. I'll have to find a playthrough of this game sometime, as now I'm curious as to when some of these themes were used. This one I would reasonably guess is either a story theme, or a menu theme? Likewise, Victoria and Ominōsus seem to be victory and defeat themes. For others I can only guess, aside from speculate based on what I know of other TBS game conventions, like suspecting that Paeparatio Bellica would likely be used in a pre-battle preparation screen, etc.

It moves on a random rotation more or less. You are likely to hear many songs on one stage. Or at least, that's how it was when I tried out the GoG version a few days ago. This song however is rather _famous_ I'd say since it was this one that played during the Demo.

These need to be listened to in this order: At first is the menace; "Word Bearers March" to hear the demonic voices progressively being added to the threat. Then cut to "Praeparatio Bellica", where the stalwart servants of the Emperor mobilize a response. THEN this, as the armies march toward each other, each side eying the other's ranks, slavering gibbuious deamons on one side, grim and determined brothers in arms on the other...

I played the shit out of that demo, as did my friend. Always wanted to buy the game but I had only ever seen it in the capital ( _where I opted to buy AvP instead, another game I played so much the disc actually physically broke_ ).
