Just picked this up to motovlog. I'm actually planning to use the 360 lens tho and just have it facing outward. I think it'll be ok as long as I don't pan to my helmet, plus I don't have to worry about my shot at all and still get a very wide angle.

Great Video! I heard that the camera can actually connect via bluetooth to your helmet mounted intercom and you can record other riders voices while video recording your ride. Did you happen to test that?

I used the Insta360 Motorcycle mounting kit's handle bar clamp with both the aluminium extensions and luckily I secured it as it snapped off where the extension meets the clamp. It seems you use the Gopro suction cup mount a lot, however with all your moto vlogging experience which mounts do you prefer with the Insta360 and why?

I tried the Insta360's original "One"- low light performance and sounds quality are subpar but the ease of use is stellar. With the new shape of the One R, it is even easier to mount in more places instead of having it stick out. The price is high though- wonder if Insta360, for trading in a old camera, will give a bigger than discount than what GoPro is giving for getting the Max?

I don’t mind 1080p output but I don’t like the nitrate on ANY of the brands. I’m a skier and use mine for winter sports and find myself wanting something tac sharp. Also....-20 on a mountain puts battery life in perspective...I haven’t tested this camera yet though

At first glance I wanted a 360° camera so badly. The possibilities seem amazing. But after watching many videos about motorbike and 360° cameras, I am not so sure any more. The videos look amazing only on first sight. Then you realize the distortion. It looks more like trick shots than a cinematic movie clip. It is quickly exhausting to wacht the distorted bike on a small globe and the clip from the selfie stick. But thank you for your good work and for sharing. I will stick to my DJI Osmo Pocket and see how I can get better and more interesting moto movies with it. Thumbs up!

Excellent review! I had similar hopes and experiences with the One R. Lots of freezing, Bluetooth connection issues, and overheating. Fantastic idea, unfortunately too buggy to depend on at the moment. All that said, Insta360 is a top-notch company that stands behind their products. I'll buy another one once the issues are ironed out. It'll be an awesome camera if they can sort out the software problems. Thanks for the great high quality and entertaining video!

I am looking for a simple setup with a GoPro, Insta360 one R or the Osmo Action but it looks like the Hero 9 has that super wide view where the other two dont have. I am also worried that the mic setup would give me poor audio but then the GoPro you need the massive mic adapter. I already have a Insta360 One X for shooting my EUC rides and some bike rides. Great video. I am doing my research now on getting my very first action camera, for future solo bike touring needs. I really only want one action camera, and not too keen on helmet mounted. So, looking at this One R, the X2, the DJI Osmo (which I dont think yet has a 360 lens option)...GoPro....and with a decent audio solution where I can add any commentary, real-time. Asking for too much probably........Anyway, as the need is not urgent, I am hoping one of these brands will have a better AIO solution sometime in the next 6-12 months. Cheers

I think a 360° camera is the best solution for motorcycle movies. You have all the possibilities and are very flexible. Whether 360° video or the cinema perspective with all possible angle shifts - ingenious.I use my camera mainly for travel videos, the viewers choose the section themselves, can stop and look around completely. What about video quality? It is a camera, after all. I try to use the One R for security recording while biking. The One R 360 lens video quality is blurry that it CAN'T capture readable license plate number of a car passing me on the same lane or opposite lane at any speed and any light conditions. More often than not, it can't even do that for a parking car that I pass on my bicycle. I was on Insta360 tech support for two weeks, trying to understand why a 5.7K resolution @ 30fps can't clearly capture a license plate number. I tried different video recording configurations; all without success. The final answer from Insta360 was "there was no quality issue with your One R, and since you activated the One R, there is no return". So I gave up the hope of one 360 camera for security recording instead of two cameras, one for the front and one for the back. I then try Insta360 One R 4K lens. Well, that failed massively also. Just for context, my goPro 8 at 2K can capture readable license plate number. The One R 4K lens at 4K and 60fps can't most of the time. I tried from auto-everything to adjusting the shutter speed and the ISO. All failed! For another context, I can see a blade of grass with my GoPro 8 on 4K 60fps recording while on a bicycle. It's a blurry mess of green with the One R. Since it didn't even work on a slow-moving bicycle, I don't imagine this would remotely work on a fast-moving motorcycle. So I DON'T recommend this for security recording for motorcycling or bicycling. However, the One R is good for fun (albeit blurry) video recording. I also have other problems with the One R, such as the one mentioned in this video, where it simply turns into a dumb brick where it won't react to any of the buttons, won't connect with your phone, and won't even take charging. The only way to fix it is to remove and reinstall the battery. And that's tough to do when you are in the middle of the ride and the camera is mounted in its case with the lens guards installed. If you are considering the One R, be aware of Insta360 policy that you buy, you activate it, you keep it, no refund. Most US companies love for you to try their products and gladly let you return if not satisfied, knowing that 99%+ would keep the product. Most US companies try hard to remove any friction for you to make a buying decision. Insta360 is a Chinese company and their mentality is different. So DO YOUR DUE DILLIGENCE and once you are done, DO ANOTHER DUE DILIGENCE. Parse through the hypes and look for realities. Make sure the Insta360 product fits your objectives before buying. And if you buy, try to buy from places like AMazon.com for easier return if needed. Just don't buy directly from Insta360 and have to deal with the way-less-than-helpful Insta360 customer service.

Have you now used the One R for a long time now? I have problems with the One X when mounted to my S1000RR triple-clamp. The One X succumbs from vibration and crashes, causing the current video to become unusably corrupted. The problem starts after a few weeks and increasingly gets worse. It happens even when the camera is powered via USB, albeit less frequently than battery only. I have returned my One X for the second time - both with the same problem. The problem appears endemic to t Is the One R far more resilient to engine and motion vibration? Heat? How reliable is it?

I have a question about this camera compared to the pixpro orbit 4kvr360 most of its features on this camera are the same as the pixpro my question is at 6 minutes were you plug the microphone in I have a clip were I pull down and the door opens to access the microphone I'm scared I might loose my battery or my sd card it's got a lock on the battery compartment and the sd card clicks in but I'm not convinced it might pop out
