I had the notion early on that 50 full bottles is about the upper limit for a person who wants a collection to actually use, not just collect like trading cards. As I edge up against that limit, I think my initial assessment was correct… and 50 full bottles takes up more shelf space than you might think!

I agree with you on that number. That’s where I’m going to stop. I’ve been working on it for a few years and I have a couple more years go to be at 50. It’s a fun journey that I’m not letting it fully consume me by constantly splurging and it’s not setting me back too much. I can put a dent in them all over the years and give them to my sons when I’m too old

The unfortunate part to all of the major collectors is that the juice will have faded or changed in the molecular composition usually 3-6 years in from opening. I have so many bottles that have gone south after 3-5 years that have all been stored properly in a relatively normal condition temperature wise.

30 is just right for me. Covers enough seasons, moods and occasions. Formal, relaxed, sunny and refreshing, dark and mysterious, incensey and mystical, earthy and peaty, citrusy and fizzy, classic manly "barbership/office" and quirky-weird (like CdG Rouge and Hermes Un Jardin a Cythere). Though I still really want to get Serge Lutens Chergui because I'm in LOVE with my sample. So I guess it'll be 31.... 😏 Only thing I've no interest in the least in is...gourmand.

I'm at 9 and waiting for a shipment so I'll have 12. It's only been about a month and a half. I really want to get around 30-50 because I absolutely love fragrances. I'm hoping I'll stop there and won't go further. At some point past 50 at least some bottles won't get used and will spoil in due time.

Speak for yourself. That approach may work for you, but I learned early on that I need more variety to keep from getting bored with what I wear. And owning an abundance of fragrances has served that purpose well.

Davidoff Cool Water EDT is the most disgusting fragrance i ever put on my skin. It's truly GROSS. Armaf Tres Nuit is 1,000,000% more beautiful for $25...well, at least it was $25 when I bought it!
